Origami Custom Osc NO TALK demo // Korg Prologue

Published on Jun 9, 2019 Ron Cavagnaro

"This is an improvised demo of the Custom Oscillator 'Origami' for the Korg Prologue / Minilogue XD. Origami uses wavefolding to create complex waveforms. With this demo we also used a novation circuit for the drums, roland mx1 to mix and add live MFX, and the sequence on the prologue was made with synthstrom deluge.

Origami can be acquired for free on their webpage by signing up to their newsletter.

"The Origami oscillator uses wavefolding to create complex harmonic distortion from basic waveforms. The input waveform to the wavefolder can be varied between a sine wave and an asymmetrical waveform (triangle/flattened sine) to change the basic timbre. This waveform is then fed into the wavefolding algorithm where the amount of folding (SHAPE) increases the gain at the input of the wavefolder.

A DC offset control pushes the waveform more into the top half of the wavefolder, that can vary the harmonic distribution between even and odd harmonics. The main LFO-to-Shape modulates this DC Offset (note: not the SHAPE/wavefold control itself) – which tends to create odd/even harmonic oscillation.

An additional Origami ADSR envelope can modulate the input gain of the wavefolder with the Envelope Amount control. Attack, decay, sustain and release are adjustable. This adds further movement of the produced harmonics allowing for complex evolving textures and pads.

Eurorack Modular Ambient Album Composition Session

Published on Jun 9, 2019 DreamsOfWires

"Eurorack Modular work-in-progress: AJH MiniMod system with Ring SM & Sonic XV, plus Frequency Central XVCO, State 700 & Wave Runner. Sequencer: Arturia Keystep, recorded using AUM on an iPad with EOS2 reverb.

I held back on sharing this one as it was the start of an idea I was developing for the next 'tomorrow the cure' album, which will consist of entirely analog, 'live' tracks (single take, no overdubs), but I've altered my Eurorack rig a little since recording this, so I'm re-thinking some of it. See my previous two uploads for my current modular setup:
https://youtu.be/YEMKqExk4iM
https://youtu.be/cBzG1eMhGHQ

I'm considering making a video regarding why I got into modular synths, if anyone is interested. I can't afford to do both modular and standalone synths at the moment, especially now that the screen on my MacBook just died and will cost me a comparative fortune to fix or just retire completely.

If you'd like to help me continue this channel please consider purchasing my music on Bandcamp, or supporting me on Patreon, where I occasionally upload exclusive videos (alternative takes/versions, etc) and might start uploading some 'guide' videos explaining how I do things if I get enough supporters. Bear in mind that creating videos takes a lot of time and effort, so I have to be able to justify it somehow.

KORG volca nubass - First jam

Published on Jun 9, 2019 iamtheswordmaster1

"I happened to get my hands on the volca nubass, a vacuum tube powered analogue bass synthesizer. It is actually the first synthesizer ever featuring a Nutube (the latest vacuum tube technology developed by KORG). This tiny little thing can sound REALLY mean!

In this clip, I'm basically fooling around with the filter, the envelopes, the saturation and drive effects. Especially the sequencer functions "Accents", "Transpose" and "Slides" are coming in really handy when creating some typical acid bass lines. I'm loving the fact, that you can randomize all these three functions separately on the fly. So, you can create interesting variations of the original bass line or get completely new ideas with the hit of a button.

I just added a little reverb from the KORG KAOSS PAD KP3. The drums are coming from the volca sample."

Best Ambient Synth Shootout #69: Kawai K1r - Song 1

Published on Jun 9, 2019 Christian's Sonic Spaces

"This is the first song with the K1r. It's a 16 voice 8-part multitimbral synthesizer based on 256 PCM waveforms. One interesting feature is the ringmodulation (AM) between two oscillators.

I used for the recording the following FX chain:
K1r - Alesis Ampliton - Alesis Philtre - Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe - GFI System Specular Reverb 2. Depending on the recorded track some FX are deactivated

The signal went through a Presonus StudioLive 16.0.2 into the PC via USB for recording. To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with a bit EQ and compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track."
