Korg Wavestate - Melody Maker
video upload by Waveformer
"Here's an Ambient / Berlin School style jam that demonstrates the Korg Wavestate's capabilities as a "Melody Maker" - starting off with a simple 6 note melodic played by the arpeggiator, and then letting the Pitch Sequence and Shape Sequence add the occasional fifth and octave shifts, ratchets and note-holds, with random probability per steps and different sequence lengths, transforming the notes of the original melody to a new more complex and never-repeating melodic pattern. I've added patch notes throughout the video, explaining how the melody changes as the wave sequences are introduced and parameters tweaked.
The jam uses the 'WF2 Klangspektrum' performance, available here: https://gum.co/WF-BACK2
Performance mod knobs:
Knob 1: Layer A (fast arp) Octave
Knob 2: Layer B (bass) Octave
Knob 3: Layer C (chord stabs) Octave
Knob 4: Layer D (slow arp) Octave
Knob 5: Layer A (fast arp) Amp Level
Knob 6: Layer B (bass) Amp Level
Knob 7: Layer C (chord stabs) Amp Level
Knob 8: Layer D (slow arb) Amp Level
The audio is recorded to SD card on a Zoom R16 and normalized in Audacity. Video is recorded on iPhoneX. Audio and video is synchronized in DaVinci Resolve 17.
Gear:
- Korg Wavestate
- Zoom R-16 for recording

Misc:
- Initial melody [C3 Eb3 G3 Eb4 F4 G4] [C5 F5 G5]

Eddie Jobson's Hammond C3 organ/custom+restored
UK - NOTHING TO LOSE 1979 - HD
YouTube Uploaded by TomnookHD on Dec 21, 2008
"UK from 35mm film recorded 1979. HD 720p version."
via this auction
"Own a piece of rock 'n’ roll history! Eddie Jobson's customized Hammond C3 organ, played with his late-1970's progressive-rock super-group: UK (band-mates: John Wetton, Allan Holdsworth & Bill Bruford/Terry Bozzio). Featured on UK's albums "UK" (self-titled debut), "Danger Money", and "Night After Night" (live in Japan); notable tracks: "Alaska", "Nothing To Lose", "Danger Money", "Carrying No Cross" & "Night After Night". Seller acquired organ directly from Eddie in 2003. (Authenticity can be provided.) Organ was just serviced & “restored” by a renowned Hammond technician, including new tubes. It works & sounds incredible!
This is one of two Hammond C3's (manufactured in the mid-1950s) customized by Pro-Co of Kalamazoo, MI. One went to Rick Wakeman (Yes, etc.) in ’76, the other to Eddie Jobson in ’77 (Eddie was formerly with Roxy Music, Frank Zappa and Curved Air). The organ has enhanced percussion, direct output, built-in phase-shifter & Leslie speed control, custom presets personally hand-wired & labeled by Eddie, standard & custom Leslie interfaces, plug for remote pedal volume or effects send/return, and remote Leslie speed-control pedal connection. Painted black (excludes bass pedals, bench, music stand and Leslie or tone cabinet). Organ is in good physical condition (high “C” of lower manual has small chip). Includes Eddie Jobson's large Anvil[-style] flight case...
Photo descriptions (selected):
#2 Custom Leslie speed-control & Chorus panels, and Eddie’s custom draw-bar presets.
#3 AC power and standard Leslie connections.
#4 Custom box with 1/4” direct (DI) output, special Leslie audio & speed control XLR outputs, and Leslie remote speed-control pedal plugs.
#5 Rear view of console, including new tubes, Phaser unit (far right), isolation transformer for Leslie interface, remote volume/effects plug, and Eddie’s hand-wired custom preset patches.
#6 is Eddie Jobson playing the C3 with ‘UK’ (other keyboards in photo not included).
#7 Plug (TRS/ring-tip sleeve) for remote volume control or effects send/return.

Hans Zimmer Next Level Giorgio III Monumental 5U Modular System
Hans Zimmer 2025 - Batman Dark Knight - Opening - Cologne / Köln - Next Level Live
video upload by C3|Nik
Pics and details below. First the video description:
"Some thoughts regarding the "Hans Zimmer - The Next Level" concert:
Amazing! Amazing! AMAZING!
I went to all shows of Hans Zimmer, some I've seen even multiple times. The sound quality of "Next Level" blew them all out of the water. It was louder, it was more intense, really top notch sound engineering. That part at 5:50 in the video was extremely intense, I have never experienced that kind of bass before. I sat close to the front, there was a line of subwoofers right in front of me, I would not be surprised if that part causes some anxiety for people, that's how intense it was.
Some pieces were re-arranged which was an interesting touch, it added a nice new dimension to it.
I can recommend it. It is expensive but a one-of-a-kind experience in my opinion."
Update: SynTesla video below added.
GIORGIO III, Hans Zimmer's monumental synthesiser manufactured by SynTesla
video upload by SynTesla
"SynTesla is the manufacturer of the gigantic GIORGIO III modular synthesiser commissioned by Hans Zimmer for his world tour 'Hans Zimmer Live The Next Level'. Discover the unboxing and assembly of this fabulous instrument."

via pidjyman on Mod Wiggler:
"The Giorgio III is a monumental 5U Modular synthesiser created by SynTesla (Pierre-Jean Tardiveau, aka pidjyman on MW) for composer Hans Zimmer for his world tour.
This synthesizer is undoubtedly the largest modular synth in the world, consisting of 12 cabinets measuring 5 x 5U + 1 x 3U in height. Only 10 cabinets are installed on stage, with two others serving as back-up behind the scenes.
This monster represents 10 months of hard work in total. 23 types of modules were designed and produced in large numbers. To give you an example, the synth is composed of 3 separate units of 4 voices each, for a total of 12 voices, with 2 VCOs, 2 DCOS, 2 filters, 6 DADSRs, 6 VCAs, 1 resonator, 4 LFOs, buffered multis, logic, attenuators, attenuverter, mixers, wavefolders, gate delays, summing mixers, etc. etc...
The modules were manufactured in France by Syntesla and designed by Yusynth and SynTesla. They were assembled in Los Angeles at Hans Zimmer's studios and then shipped to Germany for final assembly on the tour stage.
When the synth arrived in Oberhausen, Hans Zimmer had never seen it before (he was rehearsing in London while it was being assembled in LA), and I can promise you that his smile in the photo is not fake (neither is mine).
The electrical part of the cabinets was also designed and built by SynTesla. It includes an oversized power supply with a capacity of 10 amps, an active filter that provides perfectly stable and clean voltage, and a power distribution board in SynTesla and DotCom format, as well as an integrated voltmeter and ammeter. The whole system has several levels of safety.
This made it possible to connect each cabinet to a solid-state relay socket controlled by DMX from the lighting console. The robustness of the device allows the whole or part of the system to be switched on and off in sequence, depending on the pieces being played on stage."

JLR Live At Noisebug
Published on Mar 19, 2016 John L Rice
"After the 2016 Winter NAMM Show I stayed a couple extra days down in southern California to visit with my friends Chuck Oken Jr., Nik Muso and crew at their beautiful synth store Noisebug in Pomona CA. http://www.noisebug.net/
We had originally planned since the previous NAMM Show for me to stay a couple extra days and get in a nice long jam or two since Chuck and Nik are both fine musicians. But a week before I left home the idea popped into my head that we could have a gathering at the store for an impromptu Q & A mini seminar so people who couldn't make it to NAMM could learn about the newest gear and talk about modular synths in general. It quickly turned into just me talking about synths and whatever came to mind.
Chuck recorded the audio out of the mixer but there were no mics so none of the discussion recorded. Assembled here are some of the better bits of the recording and several still shots from the event including the crazy event flyer image Chuck and I created. ;-) I took most of the photos except for the one Nik took @ 14:00 and the one A.DAPT took @ 27:00 (thanks guys! :-)
Also many thanks to Gert Jalass of Moon Modular for his continuing friendship and support!"

Moog Minitaur Goes Up to C5, Not C4
If you recall from my Moog Minitaur review (now updated), I stated that the Minitaur could play up to middle C, or note 72 / C4. This is also noted in the Minitaur manual. Well, it turns out MIDI note 72 is actually C5, an octave higher than middle C4 which is note 60.
John Bowen of John Bowen Synth Design and the Solaris caught this.
"I was reading your review of the Minitaur, and wanted to comment about the statement that Middle C (C4) is note #72. I've always used 60 as the value for C4.
If you check the info here: http://home.roadrunner.com/~ jgglatt/tech/midispec.htm
There are 128 possible notes on a MIDI device, numbered 0 to 127 (where Middle C is note number 60)."
He did find the following in the Logic Pro 9 user manual site regarding differences between Yamaha and Roland:
"Display Middle C As pop-up menu: This pop-up menu affects the description of notes in the editors. The bottom C on a five-octave keyboard (note # 36) is labeled C1, and middle C (note # 60) is labeled C3. According to this standard, the lowest MIDI note (note # 0) is called C–2. This is the official standard used by most manufacturers. Use of the C3 (Yamaha) setting will set Logic Pro to this standard mode. If you select the C4 (Roland) setting, the bottom C on a five-octave keyboard is labeled C2, and middle C is labeled as C4. In this standard, the lowest MIDI note is C–1."
So in this case Yamaha sees middle C as C3 and Roland sees middle C as C4, but both see C4 as MIDI note 60. If the Minitaur goes up to MIDI note 72, then that would be C5 and not C4.
John checked with Amos Gaynes of Moog Music and he verified it was his understanding that Middle C is note 60 and is C4, making MIDI Note 72 C5.
So there you have it. The Minitaur actually goes up to C5, one octave past middle C.

Nik Kershaw Wouldn’t It Be Good ~ Vintage Synthesizer Recreation ~ RetroSound
video upload by RetroSound
"(c)2007-25 by RetroSound
supported by UVI: http://bit.ly/retrosound-uvi
❤️ Support #RetroSound channel: https://retrosound.creator-spring.com
One of my favorite tracks from the early 80s.
Wouldn’t It Be Good by Nik Kershaw from the album Human racing (1984)
Written by Nik Kershaw, produced by Peter Collins
Featured the Roland Juno-60, the Yamaha DX7 and the E-MU Emulator II
This cover song series contains my own recreations of my favourite songs from the last 50 years. The original music from which I take inspiration belong to their respective owners. I recreate tracks only for personal passion and to pay homage to these tracks.
My intention is not to create covers that sound exactly like the original (if you want to hear identical sounds, please listen the original). It's more of an inspiration with my sounds from the old synthesizers from the past and of course the great appreciation for the original performers and producers."

ELP’s HOEDOWN: LIVE @ EMEAPP FEAT. MANTICORE w/KEITH EMERSON’S MOOG MODULAR AND HAMMOND/GOFF C3
video upload by EMEAPP
"As mentioned in past videos, EMEAPP feels a deep responsibility to share our historically significant collection of rare, unusual and artist-used musical equipment with the world. As a part of this, we have opened up our doors to several tribute groups that are dedicated to recreating the music of great acts accurately and with the utmost respect to the source material. We are heavily involved in preserving the legacy of Emerson, Lake & Palmer and we do get behind those who share a similar mindset. The Long Island based group Manticore for example is one of the primary acts that is dedicated to paying tribute to the music of Emerson, Lake & Palmer and they have become a part of the EMEAPP fold. Here is the group (Rob Shepard on Keyboards, John Cristando on Drums and Ron Ponella on Bass) performing their high-energy rendition of “Hoedown” from ELP’s third studio album “Trilogy” (celebrating it’s 50th anniversary on July 6, 2022). The rig for this shoot prominently features Keith Emerson’s legendary Moog Modular Synthesizer and heavily modded Hammond/Goff C3 with dual Leslie 122 cabinets, as well as Greg Lake’s legendary stage used Persian carpet!
You can find us at www.emeapp.org where we invite you to join us as a member."

NAMM 2013: Metasonix-S-2000 Vacuum-Tube Synthesizer
Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction
"Up for Buy It Now is the New Metasonix-S-2000 Vacuum-Tube Synthesizer. One Picture taken at the 2013 NAMM Show, others added 1/26/13!
I played it a the NAMM show and was impressed by it's user friendly design. It's a very dynamic sounding synth. Totally unique in a world of synths. You will be amazed at it's sound!
Metasonix took 20+ years of experience in vacuum-tube electronic music, and used it to make the most exciting instrument in the history of Metasonix. The S-2000 is not merely a new repackaging of old designs. It is a revolution, and a game changer.
The S-2000 was made to be as easy to use as possible. Just plug in power, plug in an amplifire, wait 30 seconds for the real new-old stock vacuum tubes to warm up, and start playing it. The built-in 400mm ribbon controller is instantly responsive, and needs no special treatment. No trimpots, no fiddling with MIDI interfaces or fighting with fistfuls of cables. The miseryhas been engineered out.
The simplicity might fool you. The S-2000 has enough controls and enough flexibility to keep the musician busy for years of sonic exploration.
The S-2000 contains:
Two all-tube oscillator/filter "Operators", with resonance variable from flat responce to deep oscillations. Waveshape is variable from clean sine wave to a distinctive distorted square/pulse wave. Resonate both for FM sound effects.
An all tube VCA (Voltage Controlled Amplifier)
Three Contour Generators:
C1 Attack-Release types feeds the VCA
C2 Attack-Decay type feeds the "Operator" 2 Sweep and optionally the VCA, and may be set to retrigger automatically.
C3 is the same as C2, but feeds the "Operator" 1 CV Input.
Plus a built-in and highly-sensitive ribbon controller, which triggers C1-C3 when the Ribbon is touched. Two Modes are available, continuous open for pitch bending (Theremin Style), and single-touch for discrete held pitches. The Ribbon gives more than 3 octaves of pitch range.
By setting the the two "Operators" properly, it's possible to get a range of classic synthesizers sounds. By setting them a little differently, you get sounds no one has ever heard before.
The S-2000 is made for use anywhere. It weighs only 1.25 kg (less than 3 pounds). Use it stand alone, or mount in a standard 19" EIA Rack. (It is 3U high but only protrudes 1 inch, or 25 mm behind the panel). It runs from a standard 12v DC adapter (one is included that can work on any mains power source on earth.
It's built like a proverbial tank. The front panel is a massive anodized aluminum slab with legends deeply engraved and paint-filled, and the electronics are protected by a tough, fully shielded steel enclosure with nearly indestructible powere coat. The tubes are very commonplace types, easily available from any vacuum-tube distributor. Metasonix offers a full set of replacement tubes, pretested and known good, via it's distributors, at a very reasonable extra charge.
The Input connection for the SpectraSymbol Ribon is accessible, so that any size SpectraSymbol ribbon controller may be plugged in and used - right up to their 1-Meter length. Need more resolution? No problem.
External Inputs and Outputs are available. CV and Gate Outputs from the Ribbon are accessible from the front-panel jacks at all times. The CV-Gate Inputs can be used by switching the CV/Gate selector switch (CV can be varied from 1.5v to 7v for more than 3 octaves of range, tunable with the front-panel tuning knobs) The audio input feeds into "Operator 1, so that both "Operators" can be used as Bandpass Filters in Series. The S-2000 is hand-made in California, by real people.
So: Purchase with cconfidence. And play with confidence. Because you're playing at the leading edge with the New Metasonix-S-2000 Vacuum-Tube Synthesizer. "
