EML 200 and 300 Blue Face

"Not something you see everyday! EML Electrocomp 200 with 300 controller.
These predate the more popular Electrocomp 101, starting the run in 1969. The blue faced ones were all made for universities, so I’ve been told. I don’t know a whole lot about the lineage here, but suffice to say these are extremely rare. The last complete sale I can find on Reverb was 6 years ago.
The units show pretty typical wear for instruments made nearly 60 years ago, but they’re in remarkably good condition. Everything works! A couple of the triggers on the 300 double trigger when tapped, and I would imagine the whole thing would benefit greatly from a cleaning.
Like I said, these are incredibly rare. So it’s difficult to even put a value on it."

"EML101 - Just serviced and calibrated in Paris by Benoit Guivarche /insta/ @bg_.s (Air, La Femme, etc) - Serial number 1095, serials started at 200 making this number 895 out of about 1000 ever made by the Connecticut based company in the 70s. If you already have the standard Korg and Moog offerings this synth will bridge the gap and give you a different playing field. It has 4 oscillators, can be duophonic, amplifiers can be overdriven if desired simply by cranking the osc volumes, has ring mod, 2 envelopes, tons of modulation capabilities, a super musical beast of a synth. I've had it for 25 years now, I'm going to regret it, but it's time to pass the torch."

Electronic Music Laboratories Electrocomp EML-101 FULLY SERVICED

"This EML 101 is fully serviced by in-house technicians, fully functional and in great condition. It sounds awesome.
The ElectroComp 101 is the successor to the rare ElectroComp 100 from Electronic Music Laboratories (EML), a small synthesizer company based out of Connecticut in the USA. Like the ARP 2600, the 101 is a patchable (1/4'' patch cords) semi-modular synth with a pre-wired voice path that can be over-ridden via patching. But unlike the ARP (or MiniMoog for that matter), the 101 has as many as four oscillators (two of which can go sub-sonic, for use as LFOs). The 101 is also Duophonic so you can play up to two notes at once. Another major distinction was that unlike Moog and ARP, who used transistors that would tend to drift out of tune under various operating temperatures, EML used op amps which proved to be far more stable and reliable.
Other onboard features include a voltage controlled 12 dB/oct multi-mode filter with resonance, two envelope generators, ring/amplitude modulator, noise, and sample-and-hold (they call this the "Sampler"). In addition, the 101 makes no distinction between control voltage and audio paths allowing just about any source to be patched to any control or audio input in any order. The 101 could easily be closed, secured and carried inside its wood casing.
This synthesizer is fantastic. It's warm, punchy, powerful and has lot of bite not to mention a sound that sets it apart from its contemporaries and, for that matter, any other synth."

Electronic Music Laboratories Electrocomp EML-101 (1972) SN 685

"A beautiful duophonic synthesizer. This is the earlier model circa 1972 with a CM3 input jack - later models were changed to a SEQ input. This instrument is in good cosmetic condition for its age and it sounds fantastic.
This was first owned by San Diego State University, where I presume it had the cinch jones connector added and was etched and stickered. That connector is producing 15v at pin 5, -15v at pin 11 and is grounded at pin 4.
Any known issues are few: the pilot light is intermittent - flickers on/off and will stay off periodically. The top right corner of the case is separated at the joint but it is sturdy (pictured). There is a missing wood screw in the interior of the keyboard case (pictured). Knicks and dings here and there on the case and face plate, naturally - but really not bad.
All electrolytic capacitors were replaced in January 2019. Included is the non-destructive BellTone 1v/Octave mod kit which I never installed (pictured). The handle is an after-market replacement (not original)."

"Introduced by Connecticut based Electronic Music Laboratories in 1972, the ElectroComp 101 is a portable and patchable duophonic synthesizer which rivals other 1970s synths from Moog and Arp.
Notable for it's relative tuning stability and distinctive audio signature, the EML 101 is a synth that has a character all of its own, with a distinctive sample and hold circuit and ring/amplitude modulation. The rich sound of this synth is rounded out by a 12/db octave multimode filter.
This instrument, SN 262, arrived in solid physical condition, serviced and calibrated. Installed 1v/oct cv input mod and calibrated modification. Ready for studio time!"

"Rare as hens teeth, the EML Electrocomp 100 was EML's second synth, only preceded by the 200, both of which were blue and only made for universities, the 100 preceded the 101 and supposedly less than100 were made in 1970 before they started selling to the general public. this one has a few mods on it, first osc 1 is hardwired to share the noise in the mixer section, so you can choose noise or osc1, there are switches to turn off each of the 4 oscillators, there is also a direct output added and a switch that turns off the VCA outputs, not sure why exactly this was done. The unit does seem to work completely as it should after giving it a good 30 minutes to warm up, however I do know the pots need to be cleaned, especially those in the envelope section as sometimes those pots specifically can cause certain functions not to work, usually if you spin the pot back and forth enough, they will come back but then definitely need a cleaning, he it's 53 years old! The pots are sealed, so they can either be drilled and creaned or carefully taken apart and cleaned, I figure I will leave that up to the new owner, given the age of the synth it is sold AS-IS, given the rarity of this piece I will be asking a lot as I am not eager to sell it, it is the only one I have ever seen in my lifetime. I will pack and ship extra carefully with this one and fully insure it, so you can buy with confidence on that front!"

"Rare and professionally maintained Electrocomp Synthesizer Patch Cable Electric Piano Model 101. This particular EML101 was owned by a famous jazz musician/ music theorist/ author and used on tour to some degree. It was professionally serviced throughout the time of his ownership before he died. It was likely used on several famous jazz LPs, as well.
The EML 101 is a duophonic semi-modular synthesizer with 4 (!) VCOs and a continuously variable multimode filter (lowpass – bandpass – highpass). It has normalled connections which can be modified by patch leads, similar to an ARP-2600. The instrument’s sounds is superb, it has a wonderful character of its own.
According to Peter Forrest, this instrument was EML’s most successful product – about 1000 'Model 101' were made … THIS IS MARKED 212, WHICH IS EARLY IN PRODUCTION."
