ELI CompuRhythm CR-7030

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

Playlist:

1. ELI CR-7030 Beat Box Analog Drum Machine Demo by Daniel’s Electronics
This is supposedly a clone of the Roland CR-78, however functionally it is closer to the CR-68. It has no programming ability and the sounds, while good, are not as varied as the CR-78. The demo includes some slight reverb effect.
2. ELI CR-7030 Drum machine Beatbox demo by Momtnz
Rare ELI CR-7030 CompuRhythm drum machine. This unit was also badged as a Gemini and Ness unit. The CR-7030 and nearly three hundred other preset pattern drum machines can be found in the recently released book RHYTHM MACHINES, out now on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk.

(AUG 2018) RHYTHM MACHINES 2 - The 1980s Drum Computers is released! Written by Alex Graham. The most comprehensive book on 1980s Programmable drum machines out there, over 200 fact filled ALL COLOUR pages...Available only on AMAZON.COM and AMAZON.CO.UK.

Rhythm machines – the precursor to what we in the modern age refer to as a drum machine. This book documents the emergence of the preset pattern electronic rhythm instruments that (for a time) were used as a viable alternative to the drummer. Contained within are the Rhythmates, Rhythm Aces, Rhythm Boxes, Rhythmers, Rhythm Kings, Rhythm Masters, Donca Matics, Mini Pops and many more. Nearly three hundred rhythm instruments are documented here, with over two hundred pictures and information provided on their country of origin, instrument sounds, patterns and features. The book is a ‘must have’ for collectors, vintage instrument enthusiasts and recording artists.

For information on purchasing this unique book, follow the link here:

Rhythm Machines: The rise and fall of the presets

(Jan 2018) Also available, the newly released book RHYTHM MACHINES III (3) - From Decline To Retro Designs by author ALEX GRAHAM, now found on Amazon.com (USD$26.95) and Amazon.co.uk (19.95 GBP). The book has 150 full colour pages and covers information (with photographs) on all commercially released drum machines released from 1990-2017, featuring Akai, Korg, MFB, Jomox, Elektron, Roland, Zoom, Yamaha and many others including Cheetah, Arturia and Dave Smith Electronics/Linn etc.

Rhythm Machines III: From Decline To Retro Designs

3. ELI Compu Rhythm drum machine quick demo by Momtnz
"ELI CR-7030 Compu Rhythm demonstration. Preset box clearly modelled on the Roland CR-68/78 but manufactured shortly afterwards in Taiwan. Good to see an adjustable power option 110/240v selecter fitted. Has an interesting 'Rolling' feature that provides a fill-in pattern to break up the monotony of the preset patterns. In truth there are only three or four patterns that are that great and useable (Rock, Disco etc.). And the ''Guiro' field full of crickets sound is annoying to most but is easy to cancel out. For more information on rhythm boxes why not check out either the all-colour Rhythm Machines book by Alex Graham [links above], or the black and white (cheaper) version called Drumfax 1. Both are available on most Amazon sites."

via this Reverb listing

"Very rare vintage analog drum machine from the late 70’s it has a very similar sound to the CR line of drum machines from Roland, very good condition for its age minimal scuff marks and scratches around the case. Everything seems to be functioning as it should, volume knob and balance knob are a bit scratchy I’m sure it can benefit from a good cleaning.

Believed to be the first unit to use the term 'Beatbox' and"Compurhythm'-little info on this unit can be found but either ELI copied Roland or vice versa."

"Korg's most powerful Wavestation, with Prophet VS-style vector sequencing and the ability to input stereo audio for genuine vocoding and many other effects. Serial number 300317. This has some scuffs around the data slots and, strangely, Contrast knob - and doesn't have rack ears. But otherwise it is excellent cosmetically. It's such a powerful machine that to get the most out of it, having access to the manual is pretty useful. We've printed out the 340-page (!) Korg Performance Note, included. (If that's a note, I'd hate to have to lift the full manual....) The display is perfectly readable, but in a few years' time you might want to go for one of the several smart replacements available. UK/Euro voltage, with a UK or Euro mains lead. Packing 12GBP."

"Syntheast was on a couple of weeks back, now in its third year, it's become a well established synth show with exhibitors, performances, and talks - and a friendly vibe.

Regular contributor Paulee Bow (‪@magicalsynthadventure3216‬ ) had a slot playing an improvised set with the organizer Robin Vincent (‪@MoltenMusicTech‬ ) so we sent them a phone trig to capture some of the people and performances from the 3 day event.

KORG multi/poly - "Much Fatter Than Hoped"

video upload by Scott McAuley Sounds

"Patches will be available at https://www.orano.co.uk/shop or http://www.synthsounds.co.uk

I received the multi/poly a couple of weeks ago, but have been too busy to try her out until yesterday & today. and have to say, this synth is astonishing!

it's Fat! and when I say fat i mean FAT! it's early days exploring this synth, but it sounds incredible. This patch is a single layer utilising 3 oscillators and the motion sequencer to create a very well balanced and full bass sequence. the synth just sounds amazing!

"Nice sounding retro sampler / synth keyboard from the mid / late 80s - the one with the analogue filters. Paul Nagle wrote a funny but also accurate retro about it in 1997: https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/korg-dss1 . Big and heavy, but good-sounding, with lots of extra treats in store for people who go looking for them. The weak link was usually the disk drive - but this has been solved on this example with an HxC drive, with the display helpfully in the wide open spaces above where the disk drive used to be. Packing 24GBP for a custom carton - to include a UK or Euro mains lead (with the pesky 2-pin rectangular shape). The DSS-1 has been stored in a very nice flightcase - see next lot - but we won't courier it in the case."

Machina Bristronica 2024

video uploads by sonicstate

Playlist:

1. Bristronica 24: MyVolts The Silent Alchemist Nears Shipping
We caught up with Caroline who gave us the latest update to the *Silent Alchemist*, a versatile power hub designed for musicians. Featuring five isolated USB-C outputs and a high-wattage sixth output capable of delivering 100 watts, the device can power a Mac with the remaining outputs providing 20 watts each. Its independent circuits ensure noise-free operation, catering to a variety of devices including the Dreadbox module and Sysmo slope generator.

The Silent Alchemist uses innovative step-up power tips to convert USB-C input to the correct voltage for various devices. There's also new feature: an uninterruptible power supply allowing seamless transition between wall and power bank sources. Also introduced were updated cables, such as silver candy cords and floating ring TRS to TS cables, expanding connection flexibility. The Silent Alchemist is expected to be available in December with a competitive pricing strategy.

More Info:
https://myvolts.com/
2. Bristronica 24: Circuit Happy ML2M Clock Sync module updates
At Bristronica 2024, we caught up with the creator of the *ML2M*, who introduced us to the latest version. The ML2M is a compact Eurorack module with Wi-Fi capabilities, allowing seamless synchronization with Ableton Live, Bitwig Studio, and iOS music apps using Ableton Link without the need for cables. It either connects to an existing network or creates its own, ensuring robust sync even in environments with unreliable Wi-Fi. The module, which retains its 2HP size, now features MIDI integration through TRS jacks. Users can access a web interface to configure each output for different clock divisions and reset triggers, making setup straightforward and flexible.

Alongside the ML2M, there's also the Missing Link Junior. This desktop version offers the same functionality but in a box format, complete with MIDI and CV clock outputs. Both products are now accessible, with a starting price of $250.
3. Bristronica 24: Archaea Exchange Patching Module
At Machina Bristronica 2024, we caught up with Arran from ‪@archaea_modular_synthesis‬ who presented the *Exchange Module*. This programmable patcher, a year in the making, evolved from its early prototype stage to a fully functional module. Arran explained how the Exchange can route synth voices via a beam controller and three exchange modules installed within the skiff, allowing for versatile patching. Operating like a matrix patchbay, it enables users to select inputs and outputs with the push of a button, create presets, and chain multiple modules for synchronized patching.

Communication between the modules occurs over the Eurorack power bus as well as over MIDI via the USB-C connection. The Exchange maintains analog integrity, ensuring there’s no conversion latency. The forthcoming release expected in late November 2024, includes a USB-driven editor for enhanced control capabilities.

"Ultra-rare Voyetra Eight analogue polysynth, complete with its even rarer VPK-5 companion keyboard. Serial number GM4806. We think this is a rev 4. The Voyetra sounds great, but autotune is sometimes a bit slow and sometimes painful. Occasionally (after 20 minute warm-up) it runs through the process without any trouble, but other times it can need many repeated attempts. (The auto-tune log from March: 29/3 evening: 3 attempts, 16 voices tuned. 30/3 morning: 12 attempts, 16 voices tuned.) The keyboard has one slightly raised key, and is very clacky - could do with rebushing, which we will leave to the new owner. There has been an issue with the X-Mod axis on the joystick - which might be a V8 issue rather than a keyboard fault - but we think it may have resolved itself. ***UPDATE: no - it's working over MIDI but not from the keyboard's joystick.***
Cosmetically the keyboard is very nice, and the Voyetra Eight front panel too, but the V8 white casing (like every example I've seen in the last 20 years) is looking a bit sad. I can't help thinking using white wasn't the best choice.

Not a big issue when you have the chance to pick up one of the rarest and nicest sounding synths ever. Originally US power, but changed to UK/Euro (switchable internally). Supply your own IEC mains lead. MIDI is on XLR - we will supply a lead for the keyboard and two to link the V8 with other standard 5-pin MIDI controller devices.

We will pack with the utmost care, but low-volume vintage synths , particularly card-frame designs like this and the Korg PS series, are likely to need cards re-seated and/or expert re-calibration if couriered. Please factor that in to your bid amount. Packing 36GBP."

video upload by sonicstate

"Chris from ‪@BOOelectric‬ takes us through the Korg Odyssey Module (whiteface) highlighting what makes (or made) the Odyssey such a classic.
The unusual routing first used in the 2600 is what drives much of its unique sound, with ring mod and Osc sync providing a lot of attitude if you want it.

This is the Korg module, of course Behringer also do a keyboard version in their range too. Curiously though the Odyssey (module or otherwise) is not listed on the Korg.co.uk website."

This is the UK voltage version - 220v.

It has just been fully serviced and comes with a period footswitch and a bespoke case, which has kept it in good condition all these years. I have replaced the rubber feet, as after a few decades they simply perish.

This analogue drum machine was used by Jean Michelle Jarre and Aphex Twin and has a rich and highly distinctive tone and range of patterns. It's highly versatile and can even be programmed live using the buttons (zero signal noise when you do this) and sliders (smooth as a baby's bottom).

Most of these machines survive due to the exceptional build quality but are usually scratched and bashed about. This one has very few marks on it and looks stunning. It even has the original panel for the mains cable compartment - most of which are missing. I don't think you'll find many better examples than this."
