Oberheim Xpander first encounter
video upload by MIDERA
"It is not my best work... but I wanted to put something up. Today, I traded some gear and ended up with an Xpander. It's pretty crazy what it can do. However, I'm not particularly enjoying editing from a distance, since the 'desktop' nature of the Xpander is such that it can't actually sit on any of my synths. It's literally bigger than my OB-6.
But it's got a very unique sound. Hopefully after I take some time I can really dig into the parameters of the instrument (and find a better way to edit it while playing).

Vivarium
video upload by MIDERA
"Here's a new track. I wanted to bring the Tempest back in and use it again... but almost everything about it is just difficult to use... I tried to sequence the beats, but the OS would freeze when doing it that way, so I had to opt to manually change beats. Using the external sequencer kind of ruins half the fun of the Tempest, so I chose to do it all in the box, and it's great for that... but it's extremely hard to put a track together using the Tempest.
Gear used:
Cirklon 2 sequencer
DSI Tempest (drums)
Moog Minimoog (bass)
Roland SH-101 (Bass)
Sequential OB-6 (arp)
Roland JD-990 (initial melodic pad)
Oberheim Matrix 1000 (later pad sound)
Prophet 10 (secondary melody halfway through track)
NI Raum (Reverb)
DAW: Reaper

How we have fallen
video upload by MIDERA
"Terrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared."

Sequential OB-6 | Voices (ambient demo)
video upload by MIDERA
MIDERA OB-6 posts
"This is the second half of my time with the Sequential OB-6. I believe I had to re-tune the unit and just figure a few extra things out before I could proceed. Everything I hear from this reminds me of something I could do with my Ambika. Which, honestly, would be my preferred synth of the two, although the layout of the Ambika is not quite as nice. The resonance on the OB-6 is nicer, and maybe the filter is in general. But they're fairly similar devices. A fully knobby Ambika would have been amazing. The closest thing in my mind is the Virus TI.
Where was I... Oh yeah, the OB-6. Strangely - lots of people really enjoyed my first demo with the OB-6. This one was made in the same day. I only had about 2 hours with the unit from start to end, so all of this is all I get and all anyone else gets with my demos unless I randomly decide to grab one some day in the future (which seems unlikely).
It's not that I don't like how all of this sounds - it just strikes me as something that is already in my studio in about 5 different ways.
Here's the analogy I have. Imagine you are eating at a restaurant. The food is amazing. So you decide to try something else, it too is amazing. You keep eating and eating, the food is just incredible. Eventually - you've reached a point where even good tasting food doesn't seem appetizing. You're satiated, or perhaps, over-satiated. Stuffed. The food looks good, or perhaps by this point, it doesn't even look good now.
That is me and my equipment. I am stuffed. No more can come in unless multiple things go out. In my satiated state - the OB-6 did not represent anything I needed. That's just the unfortunate reality.
Perhaps you are not satiated, and everything you heard here was magic (don't for a second think that I believe anything I do is magic) - then perhaps you will find yourself with an OB-6 sooner than later, and I'm happy to have helped you along on that journey."

Sequential OB-6 | Inside (ambient demo)
video upload by MIDERA
MIDERA OB-6 posts
"I have honestly stared at this synth more than any other synth for the last three years, online that is. I watched videos upon videos and thought "it sounds good... but what is it that people *love* about it?" I wasn't going to spend $2000+ on a synth without testing it. No, I only do that with everything else (like the Prophet 10 and Prophet 12). Ok, so I do do that.
I managed to play one locally. Twice. The desktop version. I walked away from my first experience thinking "Wow, their Virus TI2 sounds amazing." I own the TI1, so obviously I didn't need that. But the point was, I didn't really think the OB-6 was that great.
Then, I managed to go back, this time with my own headphones. My opinion didn't change. However, this time they had an Oberheim OB-Xa, which sounded incredible, I could hardly believe my ears. I left, again, disappointed by the OB-6.
Fast-forward, I was going to do a trade, my JX-3P + cash for a friend's OB-6 keyboard. Well, they took the JX-3P but needed the OB-6 for a show, so I let them bring that later. In the process, they decided not to keep the JX-3P, but did let me borrow their OB-6, for a few hours, just to sit and play, which was awfully kind of them. What you hear is my time with it. Or rather, the first half of that time with it. I knew nothing about it, but I *DID* tune it prior to starting recording - and it managed to get out of tune by the end.
