Hack 5.0 | Sonicware Liven Ambient Ø + Evoke

"What would happen if you connected the MIDI out to the MIDI in of the same synth (a Sonicware Liven, in this case)? Or created a MIDI loop between two synths / Livens? That's what I set out to answer in this video with the Sonicware Liven Ambient Ø and Evoke, and I discovered a whole bunch of tricks and possibilities along the way. Warning: I did experience a couple of freezes while experimenting with this setup. I don't think there's any risk beyond that, but I'm not 1000% sure about that, and a freeze in and of itself can be aggravating if you haven't saved your work, so please bear all that in mind. A couple more notes below, after the table of contents.

Electronica w/ Electric Kalimba & OP-1 field Looping Piano | Gentle Rain 2026-08-30 by atnr

"An electronica piece where electric kalimba and looping piano sounds overlap.

On the LOTTIE CANTO Color Palette electric kalimba, the built-in delay is used while the MOOD MKII adds further delay and layers micro loops over the sound.

On the OP-1 field, a 16-bar piano performance is recorded and played back in reverse during the intro and outro. The built-in TERMINAL effect applies bit reduction, followed by reverb through the ‪@strymon‬ blueSky.

On ‪@SONICWARE‬ AmbientØ, synth pads are performed. The output is processed through LOST+FOUND with reverb and delay."

On LIVEN Ambient Ø, synth pads are performed by hand. The output is processed with reverb through the @stymon blueSky.

The tape loop uses a one-minute endless tape containing a recorded piano performance. The playback is processed through the ‪@HologramElectronics‬ MICROCOSM with the MICRO LOOP effect, while reversed sounds are layered using the PHRASE LOOPER function."
