The Mighty Toy Piano

via Kent:
"ToyPiano.zip

I was at my brother's house over the weekend and sampled his daughter's toy piano with a Zoom H4. The instrument sampled was I believe the Schoenhut 'Fancy Baby Grand'

This zip has the samples, a Kontakt3 instrument, and an Ableton Live
Drum Rack instrument.

Since I'm not a brainiac, the Drum Rack may come up and say it can't
find the samples. They're in the "Toy Piano Samples" subdirectory.
Which is where you'll need to go if you don't have Live 7 or Kontak 3.

Example of the samples in action:

You can fade between the two sides, mixing the two filters or using just one or the other. There's a built in noisegate and two envelopes that can control the VCA. There is also high quality distortion and compression. There's a built-in LFO as well for modulating the filters. And that's just part of the front panel!

Logan String Melody II

via this auction
"sought-after 1970s analogue string synthesizer. The Logan has a 49 note C-C keyboard with a split point in the middle & is built into a wooden, tolex covered, flight case. There are sliders to control the volume of the different instrument types - violin, viola & cello - which are all fully polyphonic (unlike for example the ARP Solina & Omni, or the Roland string synths, which are paraphonic). The sounds can be mixed together or used separately & are basically 4' 8' & 16' stops. There is also a monophonic bass sound which can be mixed in with its own slider & can have a percussive attack added via another slider.

The string sound is lush & full; not as bright as an ARP, but with a lovely warm tone. The built in 'ensemble' or chorus makes a wonderfully complex sound & has its own large dedicated circuit board. In addition to the basic string sound there are a few pre-set sounds, including orchestra, organ & accordian.

Yamaha DD-6 Circuit Bent Drum Machine

The circuit bent Yamaha DD-6 in the video is up for auction here.

"The Yamaha DD-6 features drum sounds assignable to any pad, 100 pre-programmed rhythm patterns, and 4 assignable, velocity sensitive drum pads. . The DD-6 has a single 1/4" output for headphone or amp. This unit has been professionally modified with:

* Glitch switch - drops the low frequency instruments or cuts the mix altogether
* Noise Filter- adds variable amount of distorted noises to the output signal
* 12 point RCA patchbay- turns the normal sounds into clicks and odd distorted noises with a connection from the included cable. Lots of indescribable sounds with flexibility.

This DD-6 operates normally with the switches in the off position, and as an extreme noise machine with the switches activated in many combinations. The Circuit Bent DD-6 is a great machine for experimental and electronic musicians looking for a unique sound and sample source. The DD-6 is powered by the included power adapter(US version), or 6 "AA" batteries."

Doepfer Drums

"This is a patch I created using my new Doepfer modular synthesizer.

Basically, the LFO (A143-3) I'm tweaking goes into the clock divider (A160) and clock sequencer(A161), giving me the gates to trig the quad ADSR (A143-2). I'm using three filters, one set to resonate (making the tinkly sound) and another resonating swept very low for the kick. The source is white noise.

Hope you like it!

(By the way, although the Doepfer is going through a Nanoverb, it's bypassed. The reverb you hear is the A199 Doepfer Spring Reverb.)"

NOTE: I thought this would be a good example to note the difference in quality between YouTube and Vimeo. The following is the same video on YouTube. BTW, if you know I'm subscribed to your videos on YouTube and you jump ship to Vimeo, let me know. The one thing I like better about YouTube is it is super easy to subscribe to and find new videos. Vimeo, not so...
