How To Destroy Angels on Wired

Studio shot via Wired who has an article on How To Destroy Angels' song construction.
"Reznor used his roomful of instruments—a vacuum-tube-powered drum machine [], a Casio SK-1 keyboard with a bent circuit board, and so on—to put together a library of analog and electronic beats... Building on top of this substructure, Reznor and Ross spent two days recording ancillary melodies on a Moog Minimoog Voyager [], an out-of-tune African marimba, a ukulele [], and other instruments." via Antony.

Update: I contacted Eric Barbour of Metasonix on tube based drum machine. I was curious if it was the D-1000 pictured, as I didn't see the signature yellow - it's marked in the image with the red dot. Turns out it's a prototype of the D-1000.

Syzygryd Kickstarter video - DIY Flame Vortex Instrument

YouTube via interpretivearson — May 07, 2010 — "Help us fund the fire for Syzygyrd! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/f...

Syzygryd is a soaring metal sculpture measuring 60 ft in diameter and 13 feet high, spiraling out to three touchscreen-operated controllers that anyone can use to dynamically compose music. The interface is intuitive and visual, allowing anyone from a 5 year old to a 105 year old to become a musician. The sculpture itself consists of three curving metal arms which spiral towards the center of the space into a tornado of increasingly larger and larger aluminum cubes. The cubes are lit from within by 1.5 kilowatts of LEDs, and the lights are sequenced to the music as it is created. The entire sculpture responds to how you play it!"

Commodore 64 Mod Circuit Bent

YouTube via kenzie2029 — May 24, 2010 — "C64 mod that I've been working on for the last few months. Built this machine to run 8bit adventures MSSIAH. I installed a sid2sid board with 2 new old stock sid 6581 chips.

I repainted it black with the key bed white. I added the 4 pot mod as well as switches to deactivate them making ports 1 and 2 still usable for game pads. I also added indicator lights to the switches. Also did the feedback distortion loop mod with switches and indicator lights as well.
Added 1/4 inch outputs and inputs, both with volume control. Added custom 3.5 inch lcd screen with second input available via rca on the back.

Also added a dimmer switch to the leds.

painted, 4 pot mod, feedback loop distortion, sid2sid, and custom screen, running 8bit adventures mssiah."
