MSSIAH Bassline (C64 303)

video upload by Avrilcadabra

"I got a new C64c that looks like the other one!

this one is an 8580r5 made in 1990 so I finally got to hear MSSIAH bassline as intended.

the M8 is sending clock to the c64 over midi. Omx-27 is in M8 mode to mute / solo the drum tracks on the M8.

The box with pots I built. Basically it is just 4 pots (think I used half the value off the actual paddle pots as like half the range did nothing with actual paddles)

and a toggle switch because cynthcarts filter is backwards.

took many years of collecting things and building things and study to make this 60 second video. hopefully someone enjoys it."

Commodore 64 - Let's Make Some Music! | The Legendary Computer Lives On

Published on Jan 9, 2020 Espen Kraft

"The Commodore 64 with its famous SID-chip really blew everyone away when it was introduced back in 1982.
It could play 3 different sounds at once, but during the years musicians and programmers learned to drop sounds in and out during the course of the music so it gave the impression that there was more than 3 different sounds playing at the same time.

The two different original SID chips, the 6581 and the 8580 has some differencies in sound and capabilities, and there's always discussions going on about which sounds the best. I'm no SID purist, I'm a musician first and I've grown to appreciate the 8580 as the main SID source when I use the C64 in my music.

"Excellent condition vintage Commodore 64 with mssiah cartridge. 1 Sid chip, 3 voice synth, sequencer, monosynth, drum machine etc.

Original box and diskettes (I am not sure if the diskettes work... But you can keep them for fun)

Includes everything needed to make chip tune music: mouse, joystick, sound cable for clean audio!, video cable with coax adapter, power supply

All you need is a tv to hook it up to, I would use an old school tv, it seems to work the best and it feels more nostalgic."

Modded Commodore 64 with Mssiah and Cynthcart Catridges

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"Up for grabs we have a modded Modded Commodore 64 (details of mods below) with both Mssiah and Cynthcart Catridges, as well as a blank Sid2sid board from 8bitventures, the makers of the MSSIAH Cart. I never got around to purchasing another sid chip and installing it, but it's a good idea to max out the polyphony for MSSIAH. I am also including (2) PC ONLY VST Controller Plugins by Total Kontrol (total-kontrol.websCOM):

1) Mssiah Mono Synthesizer Controller (realtime editor which allows you to control every parameter found on Mssiah Mono Synthesizer. Mssiah Mono Synthesizer Controller operates as a standalone editor or as a VSTi plugin (Windows), and offers a preset manager and other extra features not present on the hardware).

2) Mssiah Drummer Controller (lets you control every parameter found on Mssiah* Drummer on one single screen. No more frustrating sub menus, full control over 2 SID chips (if installed) filters and voice mapping. Drummer operates as a standalone editor or as a VSTi plugin (Windows).

I purchased the C64 modded off eBay less than a year ago with the following modifications:
-1/4" Output for Audio (to amp, soundcard, etc.)
-RCA plug for Colored Video (you can still hook up the original output for B+W if need be), Output is very nice in color (please see pics)

Just to recap, in addition to the Modded C64 with it's original PSU, Paddle Joystick, and an AV cable for the color output, this unit comes with an 8bitadventures Mssiah Cartridge, Brand New Sid2Sid Board (8bitventurescom/mssiah/), current version of Cynthcart Cartridge (v1.2.4), and (2) PC-only VST plugins to control MSSIAH from your DAW (automation baby!)"

SW: FL studio Sequencer just to feed the commodore with midi. and to control the cc-channels

A Commodore 64 Story - Kompositkrut
Published on Aug 28, 2012 by KompositKrut
"So this is the 2:nd track on my commodore 64 album. All of the songs are made with one run on the commodore, so none of the songs have more then 3 voices simultaneously. The sid-chip can only generate 3 mono voices at the time or generate 3 frequencies if that sounds better.

The video is recorded with a HTC sense that I borrow from my bud simon from castlevania (jk he´s not from castlevania).

YMO - FOCUS (cover with English lyrics)

YouTube Published on Jul 9, 2012 by EnvelopeGenerator

"EnvelopeGenerator on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/EnvGen
My tracks on SoundCloud: http://soundcloud.com/envelopegenerator/sets

My favourite song by my favourite band - I've been meaning to do a cover of this for years! It's a little bit more gritty and industrial than YMO's version.

Super mega awesome thanks to Helen for translating the lyrics - the original song is in Japanese (with a little bit of English), so I figured it might be fun to try it in English (with a little bit of Japanese). Sorry if my pronunciation's terrible, I don't speak any Japanese :P

Also, this is my first video with my fancy-pants new DSLR. Totally abusing shallow depth of field here - give me a break, the song is called "Focus" after all! Completely destroyed my computer though - a 4 minute video took up nearly 500GB of disk space, made my video editing software crash at least 20 times, and caused my computer to overheat and reboot twice.

Oh, and finally - happy belated birthday to Haruomi Hosono!

Equipment:
Bass - Moog Little Phatty
Drums - Alesis HR-16B
Pads - Roland Juno 6, KORG Microkorg
SFX - Commodore 64 computer with MSSIAH synth cartridge, Nintendo Gameboy Color with LSDJ cartridge
Fender Lite Ash Stratocaster
Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi distortion pedal"

C64 Synth MSSIAH SID2SID Commodore Custom 8-bit Synth

"Here are some of the features of this custom C64:

-Custom paint job in fire engine red.

-MSSIAH Vinyl Keyboard labels: full digital color prints that show the functions of MSSIAH

-MSSIAH: The MSSIAH is a midi cartridge for the Commodore 64. It has a suite of applications that you can use to play the c64 via midi. I controlled mine with Ableton Live 8. Worked like a charm. http://www.8bitventures.com/mssiah/

-SID2SID: An additional circuit board to add a 2nd SID chip. I have two 8580 sid chips installed. They each have a separate 1/4" output. Commodore 64 with MSSIAH

via this auction

"Commodore C64 v2 refurbished. (very clean, case/keyboard in excellent condition)
Mssiah Cart (Music application), with pdf manuals (on disc)
Cassette drive.
Original C64 manual.
Joystick.
Potentiometer paddle control.
2 cart games.
5 cassette games.
Power supply.
Free Tv with remote (pick up buyers only) (any tv/lcd will work)

Mssiah is a very powerful music application that turns the C64 into a analogue mono synth with full midi. The C64 can be played or sequenced/programmed by the C64's keyboard (in partnership with joystick or paddles) or via either external midi keyboard, DAW (eg Ableton, Cubase, Protools etc) or by any hardware sequencer that transmits midi. The Mssiah responds to both CC and midi commands. It is also viable to sync the C64 via DinSync (old roland gear, tr606/tr808/mc202/tb303 etc)

The very special thing about this particular C64 is that it has the R5 8580 sid chip (see picture for verification). The 8580 was the only Sid chip version that makes it possible to mix the oscillators (in any wav form combination) together, giving greater versatility and sound options. The 8580 also has the redesigned and much improved analogue Filters, as well as reduced noise output. There were 7 version's of the sid chip in total, 8580 being the most rare and recent. When buying a C64 its all a matter of chance to what version sid is installed, as there is no external markings that identifies the model."

Commodore 64 MSSIAH Demo - With 8 Bit Dubstep

YouTube Uploaded by radlers on Mar 2, 2012

"Part of my studio synth tech includes a Commodore 64 (SX64) running MSSIAH, which is a fairly new suite of music software tools that also include MIDI. Majority of this song is actually done using MSSIAH's various tools. The electric piano and the strings are my Korg M50. Some of the drum tracks are MSSIAH, the others are a loop sample. The Dubstep bass was achieved using the Mono Synth module in MSSIAH tied into Logic, using MIDI triggers from Logic to control the rate of the 'wobble' in the bass. This was demoed at THEMUSEUM in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada recently."
