Messing about with MSSIAH for the Commodore 64

YouTube Uploaded by zombieAndy1979 on Jun 4, 2011

"A rather long winded talkie / demo on my new MSSIAH synth for the Commodore 64.
I'm still learning the ropes so bear with me, and apologies for the poor sound quality. I have now got a better way of recording for future videos.
The C64 i'm using is a Model 1 "Bull nose" with the standard single 6581 SID Chip.
I may at a later date find another 6581 SID chip as I also purchased the SID2SID board with the MSSIAH.

C64 LIVE DEMO - SID bassline (commodore cynthcart mssiah prophet64)

YouTube Uploaded by lukhashdotcom on Sep 6, 2009
Kicks it at :25.
"Live demo of one of my songs.
Bassline is played by an good old C64 equipped with Cynthcart.
Tune is called "we ain't finished yet" and has been featured on DEAD PIXELS long play.

In 2009 I began experimenting with SID chiptune (built-in sound generator chip of Commodore 64), and Cynthcart to create a blend of original 8bit sound from the 80's and Rock music.

Making Music with the MSSIAH Sequencer

Uploaded by 8bitventures on Aug 11, 2009

"This video demos how to use the MSSIAH Sequencer to create music with the Commodore 64.
It's as simple as with any other modern MAC or PC Sequencer. In this video the Sequencer is controlled with a
1351 mouse but it may also be operated with an Amiga or Atari mouse, ordinary C64 joystick, the keyboard itself or a PC mouse using a 1351 mouse adapter (such as the Micromys).
The MSSIAH Sequencer application can be switched to full MIDI mode in which it functions as a MIDI module being multi-timbral, polyphonic or a mix of both modes.

The MSSIAH Cartridge is a hardware cartridge with a built in MIDI interface and plugs into the back of your Commodore 64. It contains a variety of music applications that make your old Commodore computer play along the other gear in your studio.
MSSIAH Cartridge sells for EUR 49,95 and is available for purchase at our online store.
More info at: http://www.mssiah.com

In this video the MSSIAH Sequencer uses five channels of audio on the Commodore 64 still the SID (audio circuit in the C64) only had three oscillators available.
This is made possible by adding another SID to the computer giving a total of six tracks in MSSIAH Sequencer.
The cleanest way to put in the additional SID circuit is by using the SID2SID, a DIY circuit board also available for purchase at our online store."

BeatMakerTV - Prophet 64 Running on C64 Demo iPad iPhone App

YouTube Uploaded by BeatMakerTV on Apr 1, 2011

"Disclaimer: To all the Prophet 64 / C64 Messiah heads. I'm just learning the controls. Be easy. :)

This is just a Demo showing that all of the functions work. Its very useable to create some sounds. Decent sound output for sampling. No lag with the controls. Once I master the Sequencer and memorize the Keyboard functions i'll do a better vid.

I should be posting a How-to in a few days @ beatmakertv.blogspot.com"

Mssiah CTRL for Mssiah synthesizer

YouTube via deathstarchris | November 24, 2010 | 2 likes, 0 dislikes

"A little insight on the Mssiah CTRL I built and what it sounds like. First you here the dry signal from the Mssiah, then I turn on the CTRL adding distortion. I have a little plate re-verb, but that's it. Obviously not a real guitar, but not too bad from an 8 bit synth on a Commodore 128D with the Sid2Sid installed. I also made it easy to switch between the potentiometers and the mouse with a multi-pole switch. Great for switching back and forth from the mono synth and the sequencer. Here is more detailed info. http://www.absolutextremes.com/blarsk..." Absolut Extremes

Commodore 64 Mod Circuit Bent

YouTube via kenzie2029 — May 24, 2010 — "C64 mod that I've been working on for the last few months. Built this machine to run 8bit adventures MSSIAH. I installed a sid2sid board with 2 new old stock sid 6581 chips.

I repainted it black with the key bed white. I added the 4 pot mod as well as switches to deactivate them making ports 1 and 2 still usable for game pads. I also added indicator lights to the switches. Also did the feedback distortion loop mod with switches and indicator lights as well.
Added 1/4 inch outputs and inputs, both with volume control. Added custom 3.5 inch lcd screen with second input available via rca on the back.

Also added a dimmer switch to the leds.

painted, 4 pot mod, feedback loop distortion, sid2sid, and custom screen, running 8bit adventures mssiah."

Modded Commodore 64 - Custom 8-bit Synth

via this auction

Sold For: US $200.00

"This commodore 64 has been modified for use with MSSIAH and CYNTHCART in your music studio. This is the latest in my series of custom Commodores. If you are unsure of what this machine is capable of, please have a look at this video for the last one I built:

MSSIAH SLAVED TO ABLETON LIVE MIDI DEMO

YouTube via djjonnyjams
'Commodore 64 with SID 8580r5 running MSSIAH software, sequenced by Ableton Live 7'

The machine in that video was sold to the production team "nVMe" based out of Brooklyn,NY. These guys are very happy with their purchase and plan to use it on future productions.

now listen to a track I made with a commodore 64, entitled "Easter Disco" you can hear it on my myspace page: http://myspace.com/djjonnyjams

The sound of this machine has been mimmicked for years with VST plugins, and sample sets, Now you can use the real-deal in your studio, and the MSSIAH cartridge makes this machine a fully midi-capable synthesiser. If you are unfamiliar with the SID chip, it's a three voice digitally controlled analog synthesiser with excellent Filter capabilities. The SID chip in this particular machine is the last revision 6581r4 (extremely rare). This is without a doubt the best sounding, and most sought-after 6581 SID chip to date. The filter capabilities in this revision are far superior to it's predecessors It is capable of producing everything from thick pads, to crunchy leads, to "blow your speakers out" sub-bass tones. It has been used for every genre from funk to house, to jungle/DNB, to Hip-Hop, and more. For a more in-depth explanation of the SID chip, see this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOS_Technology_SID

The machine you are bidding on has the following modifications:

1. This is the classic "breadbin" style 64c case, with the latest revision motherboard (the most stable of the breadbin compatible boards) This commodore sports a single 6581 R4 and it sounds absolutely brilliant!

2. The pot installed in the upper right may be assigned to control any parameter in MSSIAH's Bassline, Drummer, and MonoSynth applications, you can select which parameter it is assigned to with the press of a button and all the keys have been fitted with my custom keylabels making it super easer to instantly map the knob to chosen parameter without ever stopping the performance. This knob can also be used to control filter cutoff with CYNTHCART (another popular c64 synth cartridge)

3. Noise reduction mod, the SID audio input (which is not used) creates a terrible noise so I have grounded the input and this eliminates that white noise that has plagued c64 musicians for years.

4. The stock red power LED has been replaced with a sweet RGB LED which cycles through all the colors in the spectrum. See this link for an example of what this light looks like:

5. Composite video output via RCA jack, so you may use a modern television or LCD with a video Line-in

6. Custom white paintjob using specialty paint that bonds to plastic. The look of this machine was inspired by the classic Commodore Vic 20, and It's even been fitted with the Gold "blingin" Vic 20 nameplate!

7. Swapped white and brown keys to represent two octaves of piano roll for live use.

8. The key labels were digitally printed on adhesive backed vinyl, and contour cut on vinyl plotter. This vinyl is designed for outdoor signage and the printer uses eco-solv UV ink, which is gauranteed 7 years average lifetime (this is assuming the commodore sat outside in the sun, rain, and snow for seven years, after all that, they might look a little bit faded) I chose these materials so that the labels will not fade even after thousands of sweaty finger keystrokes! See the pictures above to check out these labels.

10. Thouroughly cleaned all ports and contacts.

11. 1/4" TRS audio output jack for connecting to your mixer. This will give you the cleanest audio output, optimised for recording with an excellent signal to noise ratio.

Please note, the MSSIAH cartridge is not included with this auction. You can purchase a new MSSIAH cartridge here

This machine will be shipped in an original commodore 64 box, I will include a commodore owners manual, and power supply"

C64 Mssiah Arp Pro Soloist and the Akai S900 Glitch Hop Commodore 64 music rocks!

YouTube via djnamelessmix
"Here is the partial studio so far. We've got a C64 mssiah chip and the Bass Line by 8 Bit Ventures. Hip hop music has been using these sounds a lot, so I thought I'd give it a go. This is part 1 of the song, I'll record a full clip in the future with better sounds quality. Anyways, I've just ordered a Paia 4700 modular, so it should add some depth to the sound too."

8-bit Synth Custom Modded Commodore 64 - MSSIAH

via this auction
"This is a custom-modded commodore 64. It started out as a very clean (nearly mint) commodore 64c with the revision "E" motherboard (the last model to be produced, also the most reliable)

A SID2SID board has been installed and fitted with two SID 8580r5's for stereo output and up to six mono channels. Two 1/4" audio output jacks have been installed in the back (one for each SID) along with two RCA Jacks for composite Video (for hooking up to a modern television) One RCA provides color video, the other provides ultra-sharp black and white video. There is a 7" LCD monitor attached to this machine (see pictures) for portability and to save space in your studio. This LCD monitor has two inputs, you can hook both rca's to the monitor and switch between color and b/w with the included remote control (not pictured) You can also hook a dvd player or video game system to this monitor when you're relaxing in your studio....

The stock red power LED has been replaced with a super-bright blue LED and it looks really cool.

A stereo potentiometer has been installed on the front panel to control the feedback/ noise reduction circuit. When the knob is turned fully counter-clockwise the audio input is disabled (this eliminates the ground noise that has always been an issue with these machines) When the knob is turned clockwise, the feedback circuit is activated and the SIDs begin to distort (in a good way, think gritty acid basslines) when the knob is turned all the way up the SIDs are capable of reaching self-resonance (which sounds lovely with MSSIAH's bassline application)

Note: this auction does not include the MSSIAH cartridge, you may purchase your own for about $60.00. for more information on MSSIAH, go here"

Sold For: US $390.00
