Follow Actions Sequencer into a Novation Drumstation
YouTube via dyLAB0303 | October 28, 2010
"Using the live clips follow actions each clip goes to the next clip at each 16th.
This is based on the Tom Cosm video where he demonstrated something similiar,
The midi out from each clip is routed to the novation drum station drum rack I have set up and then audio comes in from the drum rack.
I have only set up a few step length permutations , with a launch pad or similar you could set up 7 launch permutations and stop for each channel and have a wicked little beatbox app"

SuONOIO Modular Synth Unboxing
Some unboxing pics of my SuONOIO. Be sure to click each for the super sized shot. I can't wait to dig into it. This isn't a simple noise maker. It's much, much more. For those new to the SuONOIO, it's a joint venture between Alessandro Cortini of SONOIO and previously NIN, and Scott Jaeger of the Harvestman, who's digital eurorack modules are renowned in the modular synth community as being the best of the best.If you look at the label under each knob, from left to right, you will see FREQ-A, MIX, FREQ-B, SAMPLE-A, SAMPLE-B, MOD AMT and MOD FREQ (see below for more pics). Essentially you have two sample sets from Alessandro Cortini's SONOIO album to manipulate, but, don't think of this as a sample/loop player. This is much more powerful. This is a textural drone synth with modulation capabilities that make it surprisingly flexible and sound very, very good. Side note: the built in speakers do NOT do it justice. Fortunaltly a 1/4" out is built into the unit. Head phones don't do it justice. Plug it into your studio system and you are treated to an incredibly unique and powerful sounding synth.
The SAMPLE-A knob lets you select the SAMPLE for what is effectively oscillator A, and SAMPLE-B for oscillator B. You can adjust the frequency of each with the corresponding FREQ knobs, and you can adjust the MIX between the two with the MIX knob. There is a volume knob and an on/off toggle switch.
Where the magic really comes in is with these little cables and the red jumper caps provided just under and to the side of each FREQ knob. If you look at the knobs again, you will see little empty jumper connections next to each. Each individual jumper corresponds to a different effect. Connect the jumper and the effect is enabled. Some, like distortion, are active immediately, others come in with the MOD AMT knob. You can use the cables to route the RND effect described below, or use them as a more flexible way to "pop/touch" effects in and out for real time performance. You can even patch between multiple SuONOIOs (see RND below). The Sample Effects are as follows x 2 (one for each sample/osc):
DISTORTION 01 - a loud, powerful distortion effect.
DISTORTION 02 - a more subtle "bitcrushing" distortion.
CROSS-MOD - The audio output of the other channel controls the pitch. Use the MOD-AMT knob to adjust depth.
BACKWARDS - Reverses the playback of the channel.
LFO -> FREQ
LFO -> WINDOW - Your gateway to endless, bizarre rhythm effects.
LFO -> AMPLITUDE
LFO INVERT
RND - These two pins generate random on/off signals. The rate of change can be controlled with the MOD-FREQ knob. To use them, use one of the mini-cables to connect a RND pin to your desired jumper location, on the TOP row of pins per jumper.
Additional individual effects :DELAY A - Enables Delay effect for channel A. MOD-AMT controls delay send/feedback, and MOD-FREQ controls the wet/dry mix.
CRYSTAL - Gives the delay feedback an octave-up effect.
SHORT 01 - Shortens the delay time.
SHORT 02 - Shortens the delay time by a different amount. Use both SHORT jumpers with high feedback for a flanger effect.
DELAY B - Enables Delay effect for Channel B.
FREEZE - Freezes the value of the MOD-AMT and MOD-FREQ controls only for the delay effect (so you can change the LFO settings while keeping the same delay sound).
SWAP - The knob position of the MOD-AMT and MOD-FREQ controls (as applied to the delay) is mirror-imaged: a 0% setting becomes 100%, and so on.
RESERVED - This jumper doesn't do anything right now, but will do exciting things in the future.

TRIPLE VCO 70A
CONTROL 66A
DUAL FS65A
40DB LPF 67A
MATRIX FILTER 60A
VOCODER 71A
VC AHDBDSR 64A (below)

B Series: Vocoder 71B and Triple VCO 70B
In response to some comments on Muff's:
"Glad you like the layouts. Sorry to have neglected the A series for so long. It wasn't because I wanted to just was so jammed up with B series orders for so long. I have attached the proposed B series Vocoder layout.
Vocoder is 10 band 4 pole filter design coded for DSP by the mighty Eric Brombaugh. The spacing on the Control module is because I want to use the B series board which is a single U width spacing. I haven't heard any complaints so far from users and means it could probably be operated one handed as well. I admit it doesn't look as nice as it would spaced out a bit more.
Bruce"
Note the full product description for the B Series VCO with samples is up here.
"The Triple VCO 70B takes the modular oscillator to a new level.
Three VCOs in a single module provides a tonally rich and versatile sound source featuring band-limited wave generation ideal for subtractive synthesis.
The Triple VCO provides 3 Oscillators controlled by a common CV or 1/V per octave pitch control. Mixer functions are handled internally, controlled by a single pot or CV. The range for the primary oscillator is 10 octaves with an offset range of +2 Octaves for OSC2 and OSC3 adjustable in both quantized semitones and non-quantized values switch selected."

MOOG SYNTHEZIZER #35 '76 walnut slant synth
via this auction
"Moog #35 analog synthesizer circa 1976. To my knowledge, there has never been another like this on Ebay. The #35 is probably more rare than the #55 as there are no pictures of it anywhere on the web. A #55 was currently for sale for $35,000. Lights alone are so cool that coming into a room and seeing it is enough to make your heart skip.
Auction includes a Moog 951 keyboard controller complete with original military surplus type connections as well as a #55 sales brochure. Behind the rear panel it reads Model 350-000 S#9042, Oct. 26 1976. Outer walnut casing is in great shape with only minor scratches and dings. It would probably look even better with a little oil or furniture polish but I haven’t done anything to the original finish. I have decided that the wood is poplar wood stained walnut. The inside is museum grade wiring; beautiful and untouched by human hands since factory, as far as I can tell. The synthesizer has a power cord but I don’t know if it’s original. One key is missing but easily fixed at a reputable keyboard shop. Keys are a little sticky as it needs to be played. No patch cables are included in this auction...

Logan Mitchell Sr. & Baltimore SDIY Group Featued in the Baltimore News
Ed Baldi wrote in to let me know Logan Mitchell, founder of the Baltimore SDIY Group, is currently featured in the Baltimore City Paper. You can find the full article here.snip: "In 2005, Mitchell saw bassist Marcus Miller perform. 'And I talked to his keyboardist, [who was] playing a Moog Mini D,' Mitchell says. 'We talked and I told him my background, and that I wanted to get a Mini-Moog, like he had. That inspired me to make my own...'
That led Mitchell to an online group called Analog Haven, a high-volume listserv that is a kind of massive catacomb of worldwide analog nerditry. In 2007, he sent out an e-mail to the group looking for synth heads from the Mid-Atlantic region interested in starting their own thing."
And little related plug for MATRIXSYNTH via Ed: "I connected with him [Logan] a few years ago through one of your posts. He has worked hard to book a synth fest at this relatively 'big' area venue. This is just a another example of the everyday people around the world, in the trenches, dedicated to making electronic music for no other reason than the pure joy and satisfaction on a deeply personal level.
You continue to be an advocate for this type of expression and just wanted to share the article. Thank You Matrix."

Avialable on Goldbaby here. You'll find samples and a link to the PDF. Be sure to see the rest of the site for more sample sets. You can find a free sample set featuring drum sounds filtered by the MS20 here."Legendary vintage analog synth the MS20 is a very special instrument. With loads of character and quirky controls, it has become a very sought after synth for its raw upfront sound and incredibly creative options for editing...
After finally finding a great example of this synth... it was put through it's paces and recorded via various tasty bits of studio hardware... things like the UBK Fatso, Otari 1/4 inch tape machine, Great River Harrison EQ32 (eq), A-Design EM-PEQ (eq), Boss Dimension C, E-MU E4XT, Mutronics Mutator...
A great deal of time and experimentation went into the development of this product.
The result... fantastic sampled instruments with the raw power and unique character that the MS20 is renowned for.."
