New PAiA Sequence

YouTube via shaolinskater | November 20, 2010

"Sorry about the clipping, I'll have to redo this one. All synths running from the same sequence track. The paia is the lead "high" sound. The Red Square is doing the bass-y background along with a MoogerFooger FreqBox. The Mooger is being fed by the TR 606 and the frequency control comes from the Red Square."

Arduino controlled casio keyboards and samplers

YouTube via bubagoo | November 20, 2010 | 2 likes, 0 dislikes

"In this video I'm controlling 2 casio SK1s, a casio SA-38 and 3 SAW voice memo recorders with an Arduino. I've wired a bunch of the pushbuttons on the different devices to the arduino and have written some simple code to sequence it all.
-The SA-38 is useful because it has a pushbutton for each drum voice. By interfacing this with the arduino I'm able to write and play drum patterns.
-Then I wired up the "one key play" buttons on the SK1s. The SK1 lets you record a sequence then play it back one note at a time every time you hit "one key play".
-Finally I wired up the "record" and "play" buttons on 3 little voice memo recorders. These record sound from the keyboards and play it back. They're pretty noisy but add some nice variety to the overall sound.
The whole project was pretty easy and is very flexible, especially if you're a savvy arduino programmer. Tutorial coming soon to Make magazine."

Penta on the AXiS-49

"This is an improv using mainly the pentatonic scale. The pentatonic scale falls in a tight block in the center of the layout making for some really fun runs and glissandi.

I'm using the "Axis Tweaker" application which converts my axis-49 into a jammer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jammer_keyboard).

Ken Rushton (aka MusicScienceGuy), who wrote the Tweaker software, is a leader in making the playing of jammers possible:

This machine gives you the great powerfull analog sound of AtomoSynth now with a build in keyboard and also it is MIDI controlable !!!.

Play it directly, it features a 2 octaves keyboard (tactile button keys ), with octave up and down shift buttons.

Connect it to a MIDI keyboard and play!!!

Control it from a MIDI sequencer, MIDI controller or computer and set it to any of the 16 Midi channels.

Control other analog gear with the built in MIDI to CV converter.

Create weird analog sounds, brilliant leads, acid basslines or make noise, change the sound in real time by tweeking the knobs on stage or in studio.

Specifications
Keyboard: 25-key (tactile button keys).
Octave Shift up/down buttons (5 octave range).
VCO1 and VCO2:
This synth features two analog square and saw waveform VCO (voltage controled oscillator) with a huge pitch range, from subsonic to ultrasonic sound.
Glide: effect control with a wide range that allows radical effects.
White noise generator.
LFO: One square and triangle waveform LFO (low frequency oscillator), that modulates the VCO for the vibrato effect creating old school arcade Atari-like sounds.
Also it modulates the VCF (voltage controled filter) creating a tremolo effect.
It has a led that shows the LFO rate.
VCF: One High pass and Low pass VCF (voltage controlled filter) with cut off and ressonance controls that can be modulated by the LFO and the VCO depth, It also features a decay control.
EG: envelope generator with attack and release control.
MIDI to CV converter:
The Krakken features a MIDI to control voltage converter with a range of 5 octaves, it can be easily set to any midi channel from 1 to 16.
You can control any external analog synthesizer with the CV and Gate Outputs (1Volt/octave).
Also you can connect many Krakken synthesizers in chain with its midi thru output to a computer or midi sequencer and each one will play a different midi channel.
The instrument is is housed in a clear, laser cut, acrilic case that shows the analog circuitry.
It is powered directly from 110V or 220V AC.
Dimensions: 280mm(W), 240 mm(D), 85mm(H. incuded rubber feet and knobs)"

sparkfun electronics UMC32 USB-MIDI Controller

available via sparkfun

"Description: The UMC32 is an OEM/DIY product that allows electronic musicians, multimedia artists, experimenters, and users with little or no electronics experience the ability to create custom user interfaces to control any software application that supports the MIDI protocol. The UMC32 provides the essential core (micro controller, power supply, USB functionality) to allow the user to easily implement their choice of control elements (example: switches, pots and or faders). In short, the UMC32 will allow you to build your own USB-MIDI controller.

No programming is necessary. Onboard DIP switches allow simple configuration of MIDI note or controller data.

Features:

* Easy to implement with little or no electronics experience.
* 32 analog and/or digital inputs provides MIDI note or continuous controller data to your host application.
* USB bus powered. A single USB cable handles power and data.
* Upgradeable firmware via Windows XP / Vista bootloader utility.
* True plug-and-play (USB-MIDI class compliant drivers are provided by the operating system)
* 64 I/O’s can be achieved by linking two UMC32’s together using the UMC-Linker board (sold separately).
* Multiple units can co-exist on the USB bus.
* Compatible with Mac OS X 10.5.x(Leopard), Mac OS X 10.4.x(Tiger), Windows Vista / XP / 2000.

Can't tell if that's Richard Simmons...

"On some requests, for use in your own productions, these beats can be downloaded in HQ and stripped versions at: http://www.zenhiser.com/categories/Dr...

They are included in the "198x" downloads on this page, with other Oberheim DMX, CR78 and TR808 loops, each representing the styles in a year in the 80s

Enjoy!
