Emu Systems Emulator 3 with Backlit Display

via this auction

"Emu Emulator III model 6081 (8MB upgrade!!) running the latest/last Firmware v2.00 and Software v2.42 *This Emulator III has been fully tested and in 100% all-around excellent working condition!! It has just gone-through an extensive cleaning/servicing/recalibration/upgrading. Every part/component/connection has been cleaned of all dust/residue. Every IC, LED, and ribbon/molex cable was cleaned/re-seated. All buttons, sliders, felt padding, keys/key contacts have been detailed/cleaned for optimal performance. The PSU has also been re-calibrated for a strong/reliable running machine. This EIII also has just been upgraded from a 6081 model to an 8MB 6083 model, as well as upgrading to a 1GB HD!! Please note: I can also offer 1GB CF card modification for an extra fee to those interested (this would replace the 1GB HD that is currently offered in the auction). The Mitsubishi 3.5" disk drive also works flawlessly!! Both wheel controllers are working as they should, and have also been cleaned/lubricated. The entire keyboard assembly was dismantled/completely cleaned so all keys work/respond beautifully!! If you are familiar with the Emulator III, then you will understand the value of this kind of work. The cosmetic condition of this EIII is also excellent!! The Emu Systems Emulator III is the holy grail of 16-bit samplers, using 16 x CEM3387's analog filter chips (same as Waldorf Wave/Microwave1), for the most beautiful of sounds!! You won't find a cleaner/more reliable EIII on the planet, grab this one before someone else does!!"

Hinton SwitchMix as sequencing utility

Hinton SwitchMix as sequencing utility from katavist on Vimeo.

"Nice 8x8 matrix mixer/multiple for all kinds of duties: Mixing of course, it's also great for gradual building up drones through muting/unmuting etc... Very versatile and sturdily built.

If you use something like the Doepfer A-160/161 Clock Sequencer for the 8 inputs, you get a nice little step sequencer with 8 steps and 8 mutable tracks.

Musically these sketches are embarrassingly outdated and 20 years too late, I know, but otoh, who cares. Take it as a bit of nostalgia :) This channel is not for my musical output anyway, Katavist's videos should serve (ideally) only as a source of inspiration for *your* creativity with all this new modular stuff. Thank you for watching!"

NLogPolySynth in the Works?

just saw this image on moonbuz. I'm not finding mention of it on Tempo Rubato.

iPod Touch on eBay

Update: I have confirmation that this is coming soon. Note it is not an iPad app but a Mac OSX app. It will support eight individual polyphonic voices that can be layered or multi-timbral via different MIDI channels. It will be available exclusively on the App Store and will support AU for multiple instances running on your system. Patches should be compatible between apps.

'A Thousand Dreams' by Danielle

"Hi :) This composition is a 80s ballad featuring the Jupiter-8 (VCO 1 sine + VCO 2 tri/delta wave with saw wave LFO in the VCA), Tr-808 (Part A and B) and JV-880 (Tines) midi'd to D-50 (for velocity). This song is one of those that 'appeared' to me in a dream, completely composed. Normally songs that appear in dreams are forgotten before I have the chance to record them but this one remained.
Please enjoy :)

The original press release from the auction:

"YAMAHA SW1000XG AUDIO AND MIDI PRODUCTION CARD BREAKS NEW GROUND

-PCI Board Delivers a Complete Production Studio on a Card-

BUENA PARK, CA - Yamaha Corporation of America, Pro Audio and Combo Division, has announced the SW1000XG Digital Audio and MIDI production card with XG Works Music Software. When installed in the PCI slot of a computer running Windows 95, the SW1000XG provides a totally integrated music production studio including a professional-quality 64-note polyphonic synthesizer, 12 tracks of digital audio playback, four tracks of simultaneous audio recording and seven independent 24-bit effects processors.

XG Works, included with the SW1000XG, is a complete suite of music software applications integrated into a single package, featuring: sequencing, sound editing, notation, built-in style libraries of music data and full mix control over effects processing, digital audio and MIDI tracks. This revolutionary collection of features is the first of its kind to be available in a single, affordable, computer-based package.

"The SW1000XG delivers on the age-old dream of the 'studio in a box,'" states Athan Billias, marketing manager, Digital Musical Instruments (DMI) Department. "With the SW1000XG and XG Works software, Yamaha has put an end to the chaos and confusion normally associated with assembling a studio by integrating all the components needed for professional-level music production into a single affordable product." The SW1000XG is currently shipping.

The synthesis section of the card features 64 voices of polyphony which can be divided among 32 timbral parts. Yamaha's Advanced Wave Memory 2 technology provides a selection of 1,267 different voices derived from 20 Megabytes of sample ROM.

Also on-board is the same expansion connector found on Yamaha's MU100 tone generator. This port allows for the quick connection of optional expansion plug-in cards that offer new synthesis technologies. Cards currently available include the PL100-VL Virtual Acoustic board, which delivers the sounds and features of Yamaha's VL70m physical modeling synthesizer.

The optional PLG100-VH Vocal Harmony Board can create up to three-part harmonies from any input signal. Complete control over pitch, gender, pan, vibrato and other parameters is provided for each individual harmony part. This allows for the quick creation of rich, expressive, natural-sounding harmonies.

By selecting from the SW1000XG's Input Presets, a stereo analog connector on the card can be used to directly connect microphones, guitars or line-level signals. Once a signal enters the SW1000XG, a high-powered, custom Yamaha DSP chip is used to shape and sculpt the sound. This custom chip translates into seven internal effects "blocks," each of which can be assigned to perform one or more independent effects from the SW1000XG's massive selection.

Available effects include everything from standards such as reverb and chorus to amp simulators, rotary speaker emulation and 70 types of "variation" effects. This powerful processing architecture allows for the production of completely finished works using only the SW1000XG card, eliminating the need for costly external effects processors.

Although the SW1000XG is shipped with XGWorks, it is also fully supported by most major sequencing packages including Steinberg's Cubase VST, Emagic's Logic Audio, The Cakewalk Company's Cakewalk Pro Audio, and Sonic Foundry's SoundForge.
