ABL2 TB303

YouTube Uploaded by Bonnline on May 13, 2011

"This is Audiorealism's software version of the TB303 it's called ABL2 or AudioBassline 2. As you will see from my other vids I own an original 303 so I'm in a good position to compare the two.

The ABL2 is a mere 10th of the price of a TB, so I won't be to hard on it!

I'm running it on a Mac, through GarageBand with GBs compressor, overdrive and distortion.

.........................

1 week after ownership of the ABL2: I had to produce this vid to let you hear just how good this little piece of software is. I programmed similar tunes as in my (TB303 Famous) tunes vid so you can play them both and compare them. Please bear in mind that I just pointed my camera at the screen and used the cameras tiny microphone to record the sound. It sounds even better in real life! (bear in mind the ABL2 cost £100 not £1000!).

My 'thang' for the original TB is the sweet spot - that bird-like chirp at the peak of the resonance cutoff.

THE ABL2 CAN HIT THAT SPOT - HARD AND SWEET :)

To be honest i was dumb-founded by what I was able to achieve. It's well capable of the most complex of rhythms.

The not so good: It really does need an updated manual as currently (May 2011) it's a version for ABL 1.5. The manual comes with an addendum but I feel the whole thing needs re-written at base level. The on, off , tie, rest and slide etc aren't explained fully. This can cause the programming to suffer.

Addendum (ha ha): To be fair I haven't figured the programming out yet (1 week!), as you will hear as some of the tunes aren't just right! (am I being to hard on a £100 piece of kit - YES ;). After all! Audiorealism are Swedish = Tack Mike Janney och team du har producerat en vass bit av ljudprogram.

One thing though: I wish they would make a hardware unit running the software. WHY? Well I work with computers all day (as most people do these days) and to come home and stare at another computer screen for hours on end, well it just burns the retinas waayyy toooo much.

update: Just downloaded TB303 skin for the ABL and it looks the 'dogs' ;)"

Note the 6 Operator ON/Off and select buttons. It would be interesting to hear how they affect the sound in real time.
