SYNTON FENIX Analog Modular Synthesizer One of 75

via this auction

This one is cross posted on MATRIXSYNTH-P here. Be sure to check out the site for more going up if you haven't recently.

"Extremely rare Synton Fenix analog modular synthesizer, hand built in 1997-98 in the Netherlands. This unit is one of 75 ever produced! The Fenix is a highly sought after analog modular popularized by Aphex Twin on his Analord albums (see video below for an example). I've owned this Fenix for nearly a decade, after trading for it with a respected member of the Analogue Heaven mailing list. The Fenix is a truly unique instrument, and I wish I were able to keep it.

The following items are included in the auction:

Synton Fenix analog modular synthesizer
Primary power supply with a converter for U.S. power outlets
Secondary power supply
Extra back panel with power chassis - should anything ever happen to the original power chassis, you have a backup!

31 Unique Modules: LFO1, LFO2, LFO3, VCO1, VCO2, VCO3, VCF1, VCF2, VCF3, Comperator, Mixer1, Mixer2, Mixer3, EG1, EG2, EG3, VCA1, VCA2, VCA3, VCA4, Slew Limiter, Sample & Hold, Portamento, Noise Generator, Ring Modulator1, Ring Modulator2, CV Mixer1, CV Mixer2, Audio In Processor1, Audio In Processor2, Audio Out

Cosmetic Condition: Excellent. There are a few very minor scratches on the back panel and sides from rack wear, but the face of the Fenix is in extremely good condition. This unit has been kept in a smoke-free environment, and I've never gigged with it.

Operational Condition: Very good. All modules are 100% operational and functional. There are four slightly scratchy pots: VCF1 Frequency, VCF1 Resonance, VCF3 Frequency, and VC3 Resonance. These could easily be cleaned and/or repaired by a tech or an experienced audiophile.

Bid With Confidence: In addition to spotless eBay feedback, I have successfully sold many high dollar value items via the Analogue Heaven mailing list over the years. You can find my seller feedback there by searching the Analogue Heaven archives for my email address: josh (at) digiradi.com

(Note: The above email address is now obsolete, please use eBay's messaging system to contact me!)

Shipping: Please ignore the shipping costs that are estimated below, as that is a just a ballpark figure. Final shipping costs will depend on carrier, location, and shipping options. The Fenix will be professionally packed (double boxed, insured, etc.). I will pay for all packing costs. Buyer is responsible for all actual shipping services such as insurance, tracking, overnight, or 2/3-day service. I will provide a detailed receipt of the shipping costs to the Buyer.

"Note: The Fenix is available for local pickup in the San Francisco Bay Area."

Corsynth C101 ( Modular Synth ) vs Depeche Mode " The meaning of love"

Corsynth C101 Demo 5 :

This Depeche Mode cover was made using the Corsynth C101 in all sounds
( including the drum sounds ). No other filter was used. FX used : Reverb and Delay.

Corsynth is a company from the Northwest of Spain dedicated to manufacture modules for analogue modular synthesizers.

The C101 OTA Lowpass filter is a four pole low pass filter ( 24db/octave ) based on four cascade OTA-stages. The design is similar to the one found in classic synthesizers like Roland System 700, Roland System 100m, Roland SH-1, SH-7, SH-101, Roland Jupiter 8, Jen SX1000 and many more.

C101 main characteristics Filter response 24db/octave Filter self-oscillate Can be used as VCO ( 1V/Octave ) Voltage controlled Resonance Temperature compensated Two Frequency Modulation inputs Two audio inputs 1V / Octave input

This module is built using high quality electronic components, Switchcraft jacks, Cosmo knobs (the same used by Moog Modular) , silk screened front-panel....

Difficult Listening - Korg DS-10 drum tutorial, part 1: snare and hi-hat

YouTube Uploaded by DifficultListening on Dec 6, 2011

"Part 1 of a two part series showing techniques for creating more realistic drum sounds on the Korg DS-10.
Part 1: Snare and hi-hat.
Part 2: Kick and pitched drums / special effects.

Part 2 to be uploaded later in Dec 2011 once I get hold of some genuine Hori screen protectors that dont get scratched to hell after a couple of weeks like the fake ones. Hooray for counterfeit crap on eBay!

Production note: The voice quality in this video is a work in progress. I hope to get rid of the phasing effect and re-upload once I work out what's going on with that. I can't fix my nerdy way of speaking quite so easily, but I'm working on that too. :-)"

METASONIX R-54 VCO/VCF Tube Supermodule

via this auction

From the Metasonix website:
"It uses a triode-pentode in a unique Wien-bridge circuit, to provide clean sine-wave oscillation. Using a Vactrol, the pitch of the R-54 is sweepable from less than 20 Hz to more than 5 kHz, continuously, via front-panel control or a CV input. By adjusting the waveshape/resonance control, the sinewave signal produced by the R-54 can be trimmed to less than 10% THD (depending on operating pitch)---with NONE of the problems inherent in solid-state oscillators and sine waveshapers. Because the Wien bridge contains no piecewise sine shaper or amplitude-control circuit or component. The tube itself performs that job. So the distortion products are entirely low-order, unlike the "sine waves" that solid-state VCOs or samplers produce.

Turn up the overdrive control, and the oscillator output clips the output amplifier pentode tube, for a unique soft-clipped square-wave sound. The simplicity of the R-54 will fool you--its behavior is odd and radical, and it will take you months or years to fully explore all of its quirks.

Now for the special trick. Plug an audio signal into the audio input. Instantly, the R-54 transforms from a VCO into a bandpass resonant voltage-controlled filter, with the same range as in VCO operation -- 20 Hz to 5 kHz. Its behavior and sound are unique. Again, you will be kept busy for years exploring all of its strangeness.

CV response: Hz/v. Use a suitable MIDI/CV interface, or use our R-60 interface to obtain perfect equal-tempered tuning every time. Maximum output signal, 12 v p-p. Power requirement: +-12v dc, approx 150 mA. (All specifications are approximate and may vary from sample to sample.) Tubes used: 19KG8, 6AK5."
