Teenage Engineering OP-1 Tape Project Overview

YouTube Uploaded by djthomaswhite on Jan 7, 2012

"16 mins of performance from 6 minutes of tape, and still just scratching the surface of using the OP-1 live. This clip shows how you can use the built-in 4-track tape recorder to store multiple projects. The entire 6 minutes length of the tape is used and all 4 tracks are featured. In this demo I wrote 4 different songs parts and then recorded some vocals about wanting to be a "Teenage Engineer." Those vocals are triggered live over the top of the 4 tracks in the same way you can play an internal synthesizer or drums over the full 4-track recorder.

Sections:
Start - House Track
6min - Downtempo Track
9min - Drum & Bass Track
11.5min - Underground House Track

You can see the variety and scope of creating non-IDM dance music with the OP-1. The internal pattern and endless sequencers were used heavily in the production of these tracks. You will hear the quirks and squeaks that give this instrument a character all its own. These songs were written on my couch, in my car on lunch break, at work in my cubicle and sitting on the floor... all thanks to the power and portability of the Teenage Engineering OP-1."

Luca Sasdelli's Rhodes Chroma Voice Board Test Controller

via the Rhodes Chroma site:

"In the last few years I’ve had several dual voice boards (DVB) to repair, and to use a genuine Chroma as a test bench isn’t a good idea: plug and unplug, switch on and off and back on ... all tasks that can impact on an old instrument, even potentially damaging it in several ways.

Moreover, the diagnosis of DVB faults on the Chroma isn’t that easy, because of the auto-tune software that drives the voice boards in a proper manner, forcing the engineer to take counter-measures to understand what the fault is.

The late David Hillel Wilson's Voice Board Test Controller documentation is unfortunately limited to the control panel, the schematic diagram and a few waveforms; there no assembly details at all (except for the case)..."

Encore Expressionist MIDI to CV

via this auction

via Encore:
"Expressionist is a professional, eight channel MIDI-CV converter. It is the most capable MIDI to control voltage converter on the market. The high resolution D/A converter gives the finest resolution for real control of your equipment. No more zipper noise like you've seen in other products.

The Expressionist offers eight complete channels of control voltage. This means you can connect a greater number of analog modules without having to purchase a handful of one and two channel converters. A channel consists of a 1/4" control voltage jack, and a 1/4" trigger jack. Each channel has available pitch bend, four modulations, four LFOs, six octave transpose, two types of portamento, voltage offset and tracking, and trigger polarity. The trigger jacks can be programmed to be a Positive Gate for triggering synthesizers such as Roland, ARP, and Oberheim. The triggers can also be programmed as S-Triggers for Moog synthesizers.

The Expressionist supports both types of control voltage: Volts/Octave and Hertz/Volt on every channel! The first type is most popular and is used by Oberheim, Moog, Korg and others. The second type is used by early Korg, Yamaha, and others.

There are four global LFO that reside in the Expressionist. Each LFO can be modulated by different sources on different MIDI channels. These can then be mixed in various ways within each CV channel. The four modulation sources can be note position, velocity, aftertouch, or any of the standard MIDI controllers. The Expressionist also has a Roland compatible DIN SYNC output connector to allow MIDI clock to run your pre-MIDI drum machines and other devices..."

Cyndustries Frac Rack Module Sawtooth Animator

via Cyndustries:
"Turn the sound of one lone oscillator into seven!

(Your ear or an oscilloscope simply can't tell the difference between this module and a whole rack of seven VCOs tuned in unison!)

This amazing Bernie Hutchins circuit has been admired by Designers for years as a true electronic engineering marvel, (Of course here at Cyndustries we could not simply leave well enough alone, click here for Mark Barton's "Full Story" on what makes this one superior to previous designs).

It's optimized for a sawtooth input, but any single waveform with a slope going into this thing... comes out as a super fat three-hundred pound gorilla of waveforms!

There is even "Voltage Controlled FAT" (Imagine That!)

Many of us have spent years auditioning low pass filters on the quest for that super rich monster powerful sound, well... I believe you will find the Cynthia Sawtooth Animator to be the secret weapon that will push your sound over that crucial edge!

More than simply a chorus circuit, the Animator effects range from creamy lush sounds to totally wacked-out warbling, and as a bonus, there's a cloud of front panel outputs from the six internal LFOs that automatically track the frequency of the incoming waveform. (With two oscillators and two of these new Sawtooth Animator modules, you can spread the cloud of LFOs or bring them into focus together simply by controlling the frequencies of the two incoming oscillators).

The audio output waveforms vary from staircase waves to multiple mountain peaks and add sophistication and raw power to your music.

A slam-dunk "Must Have" Module for any synthesizer!

"It's absolutely clear that this is a world-class timbre fattener"
