Rheyne - 1/19/12 - Live Jam #34 (DSI MoPho, Lemur, Akai MPD26, Novation Launchpad, Ableton Live)
YouTube Uploaded by RheyneMusic on Jan 19, 2012
"Overhead view of a live looping improv jam with Ableton Live. The Oxygen 25 is triggering NI's Massive, the Akai MPD26 is triggering a custom NI Kontakt patch, the Akai LPD8 is controlling looper and mixer functions, and the Novation Launchpad is controlling the recording and playback of loops in Ableton Live. All loops are recorded live, no tracks were pre-recorded. The DSI MoPho's delay is from Ableton. Lemur is running on an iPad 2, wirelessly controlling Ableton's effects. Audio is captured directly into a Zoom Q3HD video recorder, from a PreSonus 1818VSL connected to a Macbook Pro."

NAMM: Casio XW-G1 & XW-P1 Spec Sheets - Includes Sampling
This one in via Loscha
"The 2 lots of release envelopes on there means you can do Casio MT-65 style 'fake reverb', where the volume goes to 1/8th volume almost instantly, then the last 1/8th of the volume decays over 2 seconds.
You can also do this on the CZ envelopes.
They’ve taken a BIG leave from the CZ design. A shame the groove-synth version doesn’t have drawbars, which the Casio SK1 sampler had.
Interesting times for Casio."
NAMM: DJPad HP Touchpad Released
"The first dedicated DJ application for the TouchPad! Mix and scratch 2 MP3 files like a pro. Features a 3-band EQ, multitouch mixer and crossfader, split output for headphone cueing, waveform view and multi-directory library. This app is under development and we are working hard to continue to update and add features quickly. Put MP3 files under "music" subdirectory on TouchPad to make them available to the app!"
Available here.
Regarding why the HP Touchpad vs. iOS, via the developer: "In December I was able to get a cheap Touchpad through the "Palm Developer Program" which offered $150 + shipping for the 32GB models. There was no requirement to release an app, but the devkit's easy to work with so a minimal DJ app took about a month to develop. The side benefit since it's all C/SDL is that I should be able port the app to android and iOS (although there are far superior offerings on iOS.. and Android has major lag issues with audio so it might not be that great until android 4.0 is more prominent)."

Quotes
Mike Martin, General Manager, Marketing, Electronic Musical Instruments Division
“The XW series are not just new keyboards, they represent a new direction for Casio in the musical instrument business.”
“Casio’s formula of value and quality that has been the foundation of award winning instruments like Privia has been applied to a new product category, and the XW-P1 and XW-G1 are just the beginning.”
“The solo synth has an incredibly deep and powerful design. Among countless others, the oscillators even have access to waveforms from Casio’s original CZ synthesizers. It can create a variety of classic analog sounds, but also has the power to deliver sounds with an aggressive edge.”
'Everyone is going to be surprised by the expressiveness and range of sounds the solo synth can create, but that is just one aspect of these products.'"
