Salamander Modular Synth Quad Voltage Controlled Amp VCA

"Up for auction is a Salamander Modular Synthesizer Quad Voltage Controlled Amp! It is in amazing condition and functions and tunes perfectly. Everything electronically and physically is in perfect condition. The only physical flaw is one missing knob cap that absolutely has no effect on the operation of the unit. It is one of few made in San Francisco, California in the late 70's/early 1980's.

This module includes four voltage controlled analogue amps that are generated from a combination of CA 3080's and other classic parts. The surrounding circuitry has been greatly expanded and the best possible parts were used in constructing the Quad VCA module by SMS. All of the knobs and switches are military grade (as in literally).

This module comes from the full SMS system that can be seen in the video below. I overtook the modular when I became the sound designer and producer for Asphodel Records/Recombinant Media Labs from Naut Humon. Nothing, and I mean nothing, sounds remotely close to what this module can do. The bandwidth is so high that I used the SMS to modulate and generate video signals for several installations. From a tuning and musicality standpoint, there is nothing that rivals the absurdly over built quality of the system.

The buyer will have to design their own power supply to run this module. Don't miss a once in a life time opportunity to add one of the rarest synthesizer modules ever made to your modular. All the connectors are standard 1/8" which will interface directly with all Eurorack modulars and similar gear."

"A bit about the studio from which this comes from ... Asphodel Records/Studios and Recombinant Media Labs was San Francisco's cutting edge and award winning production, recording, and performance/research facility. We worked both with artists internal and external to the record label. Some of the clientele has included Academy and Grammy Award nominated M.I.A., members of Nine Inch Nails, Lou Reed, Kode 9, Speedy J, Blixa Bargeld, and many many others. The facility was home to many talented professionals who were the users of the equipment we are selling."

Solar Orbiter - Minimoog Voyager XL - Moog Slim Phatty & Korg Radias - Andy Barrow

YouTube Uploaded by MrRidgebackman on Mar 20, 2012

"Hi Everyone,

This is the final version of the video I uploaded 2 weeks ago "Sneak Preview".

The Minimoog Voyager XL, along with the Moog Slim Phatty and the Korg Radias. I suggest a pair of headphones for this piece for better effect

We start off with a brief intro using the Voyager XL and then the music begins with the Radias (Pads and the Lead Synth part way through the video) and the Moog Slim Phatty being used for the rhythm. I then bring the XL in to play a moody lead lead synth (2 Osc's used, the second used primarily for harmonic content). The Radias takes over later on and then we finish with Moog Slim Phatty and the Voyager XL.

This is a long video and piece of music for me, and one which has taken some time to put together. This is a completed version, but one I think I will revisit at some point. Not entirely happy with the mix.

I hope you enjoy.

Best Wishes

Andy"

SYNTHESIZER MAGAZIN Sets up for Musikmesse 2012

You'll find a few more pics on sequencer.de. The write-up is in German, but you can find a Goglish version here.

Four synth-centric booths are called out. The EMC booth including gear from Moog, Schmidt, Radikal Technologies, and John Bowen Synth Design with the Solaris. You might remember the EMC booth showcasing The Schmidt at NAMM 2012 in my uber post here. Radikal had their own booth at NAMM. Buchla 200e is at the SM Pro booth in Hall 5.1, and Ghielmetti (Airbourne / Martin Hollinger) with his AVS04 is in in Hall. BTW, if you haven't seen the AVS04, it's pretty incredible. Click on the Airbourne label below and check out previous posts (don't miss these pics). It's a custom modular by Martin Hollinger of the Synthorama synth museum in Switzerland.
