Rare Vintage Electro-Harmonix RTG Random Tone Generator

"Here is the legendary noise making EH 1300 Electro Harmonix Random Tone Generator. SO FEW WERE MADE - THIS IS A SUPER RARE COLLECTORS ITEM! It is clean with some minor scuffs, looks great for an over 30 year old pedal and it works great. It makes all sorts of crazy synth noises and is controlled by the speed knob. Not sure the value, one sold for $850 back in 2007. Will start it at 799, and we'll see if there is interest in the strangest space age pedel from 1980.

'The Electro-Harmonix RTG

This is the EH RTG or Random Tone Generator. It was definitely one of the weirder things EH made in their heyday.

Designed by Bob Bednarz, the RTG was a Random Tone Generator. It makes electronic beeps and boops, either in normal mode or you can use the GLIDE switch to make it glide up and down to the note. Other than the Glide, the only other control was for the Rate of the tones. They're not really random as you can hear it start to repeat itself if you listen for a couple of minutes or less, depending on the speed. Just connect it to an amp and go!!

One of these sold recently on Ebay for $850!! Contrary to the auction hype, they were not prototypes; they were actual production units that appeared in EH price lists circa 1980.

HERE IS A VIDEO OF THE EH 1300 doing its magic. This video is not the one listed but it makes the same noises!'" [above embed]

WELSH'S SYNTHESIZER COOKBOOK VOLUME 1 AND 2 BY FRED WELSH

I haven't posted these in a while and don't believe I've seen the two side by side so here you go.  I have a link to volume one on Amazon in the Synth Books post.   The description from Amazon reads:  "This book covers ground that is often left untouched by other synthesizer books and was written to fulfill the wishes voiced by synth programmers. Section one explains the parts of an analog synth in detail using harmonic and waveform analysis to make clear exactly what each synth parameter does. Section two is probably the most important section added to the new edition and it explains through examples how to use freely available harmonic and waveform analysis software to analyze and recreate patches from other synths, sounds found in songs, and the synthesis of acoustic instruments. Section three contains all 102 of the original 1st and 2nd edition universal patches for ALL dual-oscillator analog synths. The acoustic patches are based on harmonic analysis and are exceedingly close to the real instruments. An included CD contains the new SCB VSTi softsynth and audio samples for synthesizer calibration as well as a full album of electronica. For more info and to view a sample of the book please visit http://www.synthesizer-cookbook.com Also be sure to check out Welsh's Synthesizer Cookbook Vol 2: Harmonic Catalog"

Subconscious Communications Model 15 & Model 37 Unboxing Shots

A few unboxing shots of my new Subconscious Communications Model 15 Complex Voltage Controlled Oscillator & Model 37 Voltage Controlled LFO / Utility Oscillator. Great modules BTW. Click the pics for the super size shots.

Some details on each via the Subconscious Communications website. Be sure to click through for more.

"The Subconscious Studios Rev. 4 Model 15 VCO maintains the identical circuitry of the original discrete triangle core to assure the waveform purity and timbral characteristics which made it a legend. It features two independent fully processed (+/-) VC inputs, a 1V/Oct input, dedicated linear FM input, hard sync, and independent Sine, Triangle, Saw, PWM and a vactrol-controlled Wave Morph outputs. Operational enhancements via it's discrete SMT component design assures even greater accuracy across all functions with stability now better than .005% (less than 2 hertz drift at 1kHz over 24 hours) and single-pot frequency range from 1 to 20Khzm, at a depth of just over .5 inches below the faceplate..."

"Part of the the original groundbreaking ELF module series - the first to feature faceplate potentiometers on a 2cm wide format - the newly redesigned SMT Model 37 is now armed with dedicated outputs for triangle, sawtooth and square wave outputs. While maintaining it's super hard sync and adjustable FM response, the 1V/oct tracking has been increased to over five octaves, making the M37 the unparalleled cost alternative for multi-voiced modular synthesizers..."

"After releasing a winning streak of albums in recent years, Glenn Jackson, Adam Myatt and Matt Tammareillo have established themselves as central voices in the Bay Area electronic pop scene. They channel their music through a variety of monikers: James & Evander, Shortcircles, Hoodcats, Empty Pockets, etc. Each outlet has a distinctive voice, but all share a love of studio experimentation, synth worship and expansive musicality. The rich collaboration that exists between them is undeniable; a rare example of three artists living under one harmonious roof. They call it 'the Turtle Shell'."

Mountainking Channel Cheif Dual Oscillator Synthesizer

Published on Oct 10, 2012 by DiPintoGuitar

"Handmade by my friend Alan of Mountainking Electronics in Philadelphia. The Channel Chief is a dual Oscillating synth that was built into an old 50's or 60's TV antennae amplifier box. This is a one-off piece and will never be made like this again. It has two frequency control knobs, a filter knob, a volume knob and a switch for on-off, dual and modulation settings. There is also a switch on that back that switches the filter mode. The unit also has an "Osc.1 CV in", "Ocs 2 CV in", and a "Filter CV in" for running other instruments through it. The unit is fat sounding and pretty wild on its own. Of course, pedals, including delay and reverb, can only make this monster even better. This is that perfect piece you've been looking for to FREQ people out!"
