"A dual oscillator built around two triangle core, wide range, periodic waveform generators. as a multipurpose signal generator, it can provide the basis of a wide range of complex sounds ideal for tuned percussion/noise, abrasive amplitude, frequency and timbral modulation. tones, drones, textures, and drums to atonal, nintendo zipper/fart noises. this module was made for fm madness.
The genxpander is an expander module for the generator. it adds standard waveform outputs, internal fm waveform selection, and extensive waveshaping capabilities to the generator module.
the genxpander has 4 separate sections.
Waveshaper:
the waveshaper circuit uses a triangle wave and square wave from one or both of the oscillators on the generator module to create a saw wave and a pulse wave. attenuated cv control of the pulsewidth and saw shape is available. a switch for the triangle wave and a swith for the square wave determine which oscillator the seed waveforms are taken from.
selecting the same oscillator for both triangle and square will provide a clean saw wave. selecting different oscillators for the triangle and square waves will provide a very interesting modulating, saw-triangle-square type waveform.
FM wave switch:
determines the waveform used by oscillator 1 (gen1) to internally modulate oscillator 2 (gen2). the generator ships with the internal fm set to the variable waveform. the switch allows the frequency modulation waveform to be changed to a triangle wave.
Standard waveform outputs:
Separate triangle and square wave outputs for both oscillator 1 (gen1) and oscillator 2 (gen2)
Bad outputs:
An odd/even harmonic detector, frequency mixer & waveshaper. it inverts the polarity of the triangle waves based on the frquency relationship between oscillator 1 (gen1) and oscillator 2 (gen2).
Oe output:
Regular polarity oscillator 1 triangle if the differance between oscillator 1 (gen1) and oscillator 2 (gen2) is an even number. inverted polarity oscillator 1 triangle if the differance between oscillator 1 (gen1) and oscillator 2 (gen2) is an odd number.
Dif output:
Polarity of oscillator 2 triangle is changed at a frequency equal to the differance between oscillator 1 (gen1) and oscillator 2 (gen2). if oscillator 1 (gen1) and oscillator 2 (gen2) are the exact same frequency then the dif output is the same as the oscillator 2 triangle output.
size: 8hp
depth: 35mm
attaching the genxpander to the generator:
the genxpander attaches to the generator using 2 ribbon cables attached to header 1 and header 2.
header 1 connects the power and waveforms of the generator to the waveshapers and outputs of the genxpaner. the ribbon cable attaches stripe down to header 1 on both the genarator and genxpander.
header 2 controls the selection of the waveform used for the internal fm of the generator. it replaces the jumper on the back of the generator with a switch. header 2 is a single row 4 pin header on both the generator and genxpander. the outside row of the ribbon cable attaches stripe down on the generator and stripe up on the genxpander. attaching this ribbon cable incorrectly will not cause damage to either module.
the genxpander receives power from the generator through header 1. the genxpander does not attach directly to a power supply."

Sequetron 13.07 with modular synth, drum machine & supernova
Published on Sep 30, 2013 Phil Tipping·54 videos
"Another quick live lash-up with Sequetron driving a dotcom synth plus drum machine & supernova to provide more 'voices'.
The 1st section shows the Sequetron ports, macros & drum style setup.
The 2nd section overlays live screenshots showing the seqs being recorded & looped in real-time, and the dynamic template/virtual keyboard along the bottom shows how the keys change functionality as notes are pressed on the music keyboard. No mice or qwerty keyboards are used.
View at higher resolution if screenshot writing is fuzzy.
Port 1 goes via Kenton Pro Solo to VCO3, Q107 filter, EG & VCA.
Port 2 goes via Q104 module to VCOs 1 & 2, Q150 filter, EG & VCA.
Port 3 goes to Novation Supernova synth.
Port 4 goes to DRM1 drum machine.
The 3 macros are triggered by 3 of the 5 Korg EC5 foot pedals to switch live output between ports 1, 2 & 3 (could also use normal port commands from the MIDI keyboard, but macros are a new feature!).
The macro definitions are:-
cc12, abs=127, [live] cmd, [command] live, [command] port-n, [digits] 1
cc13, abs=127, [live] cmd, [command] live, [command] port-n, [digits] 2
cc64, abs=127, [live] cmd, [command] live, [command] port-n, [digits] 3
The 'record attrib source' config option is set so that live's current port value is automatically transferred to the recorded sequence(s) when the recording starts.
The drum style used for the metronome is taken from the Drum Machine Patterns books by Rene-Pierre Bardet.

SSF Mixmode Saturator VS BD808
Published on Sep 30, 2013 SteadyStateFate·22 videos
"MIXMODE saturating a dynamic signal source.
More info about MIXMODE at www.steadystatefate.com
The BD808 is fed into MIXMODE's mixer saturation circuitry. The effects of the saturator on a bass kick is demonstrated at various settings.
The bass kick is then also hard clipped by the SSF GND CTRL - audio and CV utility.
While the signal peaks are hard clipped, the tail of the kick remains in MIXMODE's saturation region and increases so, as the volume level is increased. This is in effect a multistage distortion capable of a large palette of harmonic overtones.
On it's own, MIXMODEs saturation circuit is unique. As the bias/clipping level is reduced, the signal's peaks are first softly rounded and then squashed.
So the effect is a combination of soft clipping and compression of the signal peaks. This allows for a wider variety of tones and phase shifting effects are heard when biased or voltage controlled.
Increasing the volume begins to saturate the entire signal, adding life and animation. Driven further, the signal begins to hard clip via GND CTRL, which introduces a quicker occurrence of high order harmonics. You can hear the changes as the signal retreats from hard clipping back into pure saturation.
MIXMODE is not just a saturator, it is a very high fidelity, precision attenuator, inverting attenuator, adder/subtracter, full color signal polarity indicator and high end DC coupled audio and control voltage mixer!

Enjoy!"

All Connected - Modular Event in Brussels, Belgium Starting in October
"‘All Connected’ is a new series in Huis23 that will feature concerts, films, readings and instrument presentations with and about artists who play with the language of ‘voltage control’. Artists who use the ‘modular’ as creative thinking process and who explore musical boundaries in doing so. Artists who work in the spirit of the San Francisco Tape Music Centre, a collective that came into being when pioneers like Terry Riley, Morton Subotnick, Steve Reich, Ramon Sender, Pauline Oliveros, and many others connected their oscillators and tape recorders together to produce the most progressive music of the period.
The title 'All Connected' is inspired by the idea of Dick Raaijmakers. He destabilised his studio and created unpredictable noises for pieces like Plumes and Flux, by connecting everything to everything and turning up the voltage as high as it would go - See more at: [link]"
You'll find full details on the event here: http://www.abconcerts.be/en/projects/p/detail/all-connected
Some additional details in via Mich:
"First day of the series [October 22] is with DaniĆ«l De Wereldvermaarde Botanicus with his collection of Korg MS synths, W. Ravenveer with a Eurorack modular system, a screening of a short Eliane Radigue documentary and Makino Takeshi will screen his movie Recorder with music from Jim O’Rourke.
On the second date, December 6, we will have Kassel Jaeger of GRM coming over with an all night event on the Coupigny synth and the INA-GRM.
Other dates will be announced soon."
Also:
In early 2014 there will also be specials on IPEM and on the San Francisco Tape Music Center. You'll find the ‘general’ project page for that here:
