"“Arturia did a great job of implementing my classic filter design. It’s nice to see my design being brought back to life in a quality product.”
- Nyle Steiner (electronic musical instrument designer)
[Note there was a silver version of the original Steiner Parker Synthacon as seen here.]
GRENOBLE, FRANCE: music software and hardware company Arturia is proud to launch MiniBrute SE — a ‘special edition’ of its amazing analogue monosynth par excellence — at Musikmesse 2014, March 12-15 in Frankfurt, Germany.
Arturia’s red-hot MiniBrute Analog Synthesizer set the electronic musical instrument world alight immediately upon its introduction in 2012. Indeed, it rapidly reset the price/performance ratio benchmark when successfully soaring through the subtractive synthesis sound barrier while singlehandedly setting a new standard for what a hardware synthesizer should be. Hot on its heels comes a ‘special edition’ that is very special indeed. MiniBrute SE shares the same physical footprint as the original MiniBrute, but builds upon this amazingly compact and bijou analogue monosynth in both looks and features.
Although a sturdy and stylish brushed aluminium casing with wooden sides surely make MiniBrute SE stand out from the analogue crowd, skin-deep good looks are not the be and end all here, however, as added functionality runs deeper still. An all-new step SEQUENCER elegantly expands playing options with the MiniBrute SE — six Pattern sequences with up to 64 steps each to create multiple musical phrases, to be precise. Yet it is capable of so much more than simply replaying pre- programmed Pattern sequences ad infinitum. Users can create new musical phrases from existing ones by changing the playback Mode, Gate Len (timing), and Swing settings in realtime from the clearly labelled front panel — perfect for inspiring new musical ideas and creating exciting live performances on the fly.
MiniBrute SE is proof positive that the original MiniBrute was no fly-by-night success story. A pure analogue signal path and attractive features like a multi-wave OSCILLATOR and Sub Osc combined with a huge-sounding Steiner-Parker multimode FILTER (fittingly revised by Nyle Steiner himself) and wide-ranging modulation capabilities confirm that MiniBrute SE continues to innovate while breathing new life into recordings and stage performances. Add fantastic features like Ultrasaw (generating shimmering sawtooth waveforms), Metalizer (adding extreme triangle waveform-induced harmonics), LFO (with sample and hold), and full USB/MIDI/CV connectivity into the musical mix, and what have you got? A killer-sounding, step sequencing-capable synth with looks to die for, that’s what!
Designed for the analogue purist with a creative spirit in mind, MiniBrute SE successfully squeezes an amazing amount of creative options into its eye-catching, exceptionally portable design. The truly hands-on artistic appeal of subtractive synthesis and supreme step sequencing are alive and kicking here — harder than ever! Indeed, it’s all about analogue goodness — all gain and no pain!
So stand out from the analogue crowd and make that silver dream a reality real quick with MiniBrute SE. No need for a reality check!
MiniBrute SE will be available to purchase at the end of May from the Arturia online store (http://www.arturia.com/evolution/en/buy/online-shop.html)
or any authorised dealer for €549.00 EUR/$599.00 USD."

New Upgrade for the Sequential Circuits Multi-Trak Adds MIDI CC & More
SCI Sequential Multitrak - Midi CC Firmware upgrade
Published on Mar 10, 2014 LeonDigz·19 videos
Update: two additional notes:
- CC's also work when the unit is in the "Stack"/Split mode, as well as when it is in midi mode 4 (multitimbral).
- MIDI CC receive only.
This is pretty incredible news. The SCI Multi-Trak offered a velocity sensitive keyboard which the Six-Trak lacked, however the Six-Trak supported MIDI CC which allowed you to use external controllers to edit its parameters. The Multi-Trak lacked CC so you could only edit it directly. This upgrade will finally bring MIDI CC support to the Multi-Trak and the CCs will match the Six-Trak with the addition of a few extra parameters only found on the Multi-Trak. If you have both synths and/or a TaunTek upgraded Max, you should be able to edit them at the same time which should be interesting for layering and editing patches. You'll also be able to do some decent A/B tests between the synths set to the same parameters.
Video Description and link to more details:
"I've been working with Bob Grieb to beta test & provide feedback on a firmware upgrade for the SCI multitrack. The Upgrade accomplishes the following;
-Midi CC parameter control for all parameter matching the Six-Trak & Max.
-Midi CC control has been code optimized for better performance.
-Additional 4 midi cc parameters LFO, VCA & VCF velocity sensitivity amount + a special request to unlock the multiplier on the VCO envelope.
-VCO envelope now has a multiplier via cc#43 to achieve 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x & 16x original depth allowing for more diverse percussive (synth drum) & sfx type patches.
-Two sets of factory patches are now embedded in ROM and can be loaded holding down a button on power up.
More information can be found at;
http://www.tauntek.com/SCIMultitrak.htm
This project was built upon development of a SCI Max upgrade Bob Grieb and I also worked on which gives this oft looked over lil' brother of the Multitrak & Sixtrak a new lease on life. http://www.tauntek.com/SCIMax.htm
Thanks + Congrats to Mr. Grieb for making a fantasy reality for many Multitrak owners.

*P.S mind you ears/speakers, this synth noodling uses a lot of the cross-mod feature of the CEM3394."

"Enjoying the Spectralis and the amazing Hybrid synthesizer on board.
The Asynth is routed to the Eventide Space while drum samples are
routed through the 1-2 direct outputs (not through the Eventide).
I'm using two trigger groups, one oscillator going through the LP
filter, two oscillators going through the MM LP filter.
Enjoy :)"

"Just built this little unit, thanks and praise to MoShang. Immediately thought of something fun to do with it. The Oberkorn can be controller via MIDI through the binary jacks. A simple chromatic scale in the RED, and fun ensues."

"The keyboard keys and synthesizer sounds/functions all work perfectly (key pressure is even, no sticking keys, no intermittent notes, filters sweep cleanly across the full spectrum, etc). All orig hardware, including wood ends, decals, switches and colored tabs (only a couple of the colored slider-top decals missing). The keyboard range is fully in tune (octaves are evenly tuned) and the unit stays in tune extremely well.
This synth is set up in two sections, and thus is really two independent synthesizers in one, which is both unique and allows it to do what other synths can not do. For instance the arpegiator can toggle between the two voices, custom filter settings can be set for each synth section, and a sub oscillator (or ring modulator!) can be assigned to each of the synth sections independently.
It has a professionally designed modification (by Analogue Solutions), thus allowing it to receive cv input for pitch, gate, low pass and high pass filters independently for both of the synth sections (eight 1/8 inch CV inputs all together). This modification works perfectly, and has NOT altered the performance or functionality of the synth in any way whatsoever and is non-obtrusively located near the units outputs. The CV inputs are simply there to allow the synth to be used in conjunction with analog gear or modular synthesizers (as with any cv signals, caution should be exercised to ensure that proper external voltage be used).
There is very little wear visually, just slight buffed areas around the knobs and sliders. No large scratches, and the end pieces are in very good shape (only small nicks in a couple of places).
CV ins:
Top Synth section : gate, pitch, hp filter, lp filter
Bottom Synth section : gate, pitch, hp filter, lp filter"
