Fractional Rack Mdlr Jam

Published on Mar 30, 2014 ISOTROPOSPHERE·124 videos

"Finally filled the last empty space in this completely DIY fractional rack modular synthesizer that I built.

She started life from the last few pieces of Purpleheart wood I had of which the frame and side panels are made from this. The perforated steel and aluminum bottom panel I had to painstakingly bend to fit the side cheeks. They got rid of the brake from the shop. :-( The power is from Paia as well as a pre-amp module, a balanced modulator (ring mod) and a mixer, left to right in video. This is followed by my custom MOTM version of the Bi-n-Tic module converted for frac rack use and finally the Synthcube Steiner microcon module for frac. Drums are coming from the Korg ES-1, the Bi-n-Tic is being fed audio from the SynthTech Cloud Generator which it and the Microcon are being sequenced by the C&G Melody Mill. All not in synchronization but it was sounding cool. Enjoy."

Audiovisual Grain Machine Demo

Published on Mar 30, 2014 John Keston·34 videos

"I designed this software to do audiovisual granular synthesis. It allows a performer to apply granular synthesis to sound and corresponding video using a touch interface such as MIRA (shown). The audio and video are accurately synchronized creating uncanny effects. The software also has the capability to capture and repeat gestures so that the performer can accompany the projections with multiple layers and arrange compositions in a performance setting. This demo granulates the voice and image of Lister Rossel. In addition I use analogue synthesizers to contrast the digital manipulations."

Info on Noise Patterns (click through for audio and more pics)

"Expanding on Perich's 1-Bit Symphony and tonal works for electronic circuits and acoustic instruments, Noise Patterns is a composition for sequenced 1-bit patterns of white noise, programmed for and performed by microchip. Instead of synthesizing definite frequencies, the code in Noise Patterns outputs random sequences of 1s and 0s. The 'notes' of Perich’s 'score' are then varying probabilities of randomness—ranging from the sound of white noise to sporadic instantaneous pops—which he composes into rhythmic patterns. In a tidal wave of 1-bit noise, the music is an investigation into the foundational limits of computation, which surface in the seemingly simple world of randomness."
