Arturia Beatstep + Casio XW-P1(random first play)

Published on May 8, 2014 Metatron's Cube·60 videos

"The Arturia Beatstep popping off the Casio XW-P1(through midi), on top of drums and some backing tracks also being played on the XW-P1's super awesome 9 track sequencer(with faders all 808/909 like!). Sounds came out acid like. Just playing with both for the first time after looking at the manuals to see what stuff does. Can't wait to make some music with it. Thanks for checking out this random video.

That beatstep has super bright LEDs!"

Not the best pics of the SY-1, but the "Guide To Your Yamaha Solo Synthesizer SY-1" is not something you see often. This might be the first time an image of it has been featured on the site. The one thing I always pay attention to is how companies marketed their products. Note the design - colors, graphics and font.  Is this how Yamaha launched their first synth?

"This very rare Yamaha SY-1 vintage analog synthesizer, is the first compact/portable analog synth produced by Yamaha in 1974."

“Comes with the original guide, Hard shell case, Control pedal, the original stand from Yamaha made for the unit, the original case for the stand, and a music stand. Beautiful... first Synth Yamaha Made Everything is in really good condition. All the switches and knobs and keys working well. The volume doesn't completely go out when you turn the volume down and there is no noise. The sound is very clean. Cosmetically the unit is in very nice condition. There are some minor wear and scratches here and there. It is in amazing condition. Please see all 12 pictures. I am a keyboard player and collector, Click on the pictures to see details.”

"This is by far the coolest of the Tama drum synths, and one of the most versatile of all vintage drum modules. The unit has 4 channels which can make pretty much any drum synth sound, and then one channel for modulated synth sounds and another channel for hand clap sounds."

Kraftwerk on Meeting Bob Moog

This one in via Brian Kehew.

I thought the following was pretty great. It's at the end of a rare interview with Kraftwerk's Ralf Hütter on the Miami New Times.

"Before you leave, may I ask you what influence Moog has had on your music?

We met him when we were recording a TV show in Los Angeles back in '75 and Mr. Moog was there. We used a monophonic Minimoog -- we didn't have the budget for the larger one -- but he, of course, knew that already. What he didn't know was that meeting the machine's inventor was one of the true highlights of our lives."

Update: below is an image of Kraftwerk from 1976 via Wikipedia's page for Trans Europe Express.  You can see the Minimoog as well as a couple of ARP Odysseys.  Curios what that is in the background left.

Update2 via Steven in the comments: "It's a Synthanorma sequencer (by Matten & Wiechers).

I guess it's an earlier model than this one.

The Electric Music Box - Sketches Volume 1: The Solo Parts

"'The Electric Music Box - Sketches Volume 1: The Solo Parts' is a project that uses the new Buchla Music Easel as its only sound source. Except for "The Clone Drones" all songs are generated with just the Music Easel. No additional sequencers, external effects or multitracking were used. Just a bit of mastering with Equalizer and mono->stereo enhancement.

But this is in no way meant to be an Easel "Demo". You will encounter much more of the dark and haunting Weinglas style in this release than you will find your usual bass or solo synthesizer sounds.

So lean back and enjoy the darkness! But beware of lots of high and low frequencies! So don't turn your amp to eleven!

And be warned: This project is about to be continued. So watch out for Volume 2!

Btw: On Youtube here you can find lots of videos for this release!

released 08 May 2014"
