ANGELSPIT on Modular Synths

ANGELSPIT SYNTH INTERVIEWS: Q#5 - GETTING INTO MODULARS AND PATCHING MAYHEM

Published on Aug 28, 2014 angelspit

"Bryce Recordon from Waveform City talks to Angelspit's Zoog Von Rock about how originally got into modular synthesis, plus ideas on patching."

Curious if the Moog/Oberheim system he refers to is this one. Update: According to Zoog Von Rock it's the same model but different: "Same model. Mine has a white face and also does not have the SPEECH MOD...I think it had a 3rd VCO instead."

And parts 1 - 4 of the interview:

"Moog Source analog synthesizer. I have owned this synth for 14 years - I purchased it in 2000. Cosmetically I would rate the synth 8/10 - see photos. The wood sides are in great shape, all membrane buttons work, and there are some markings and scratches on the chrome as evidenced in the photos.

Functionally there are several issues, which were all present when I bought the synth. The LED display does not display all of the numbers correctly - most display as the should, but the "8" looks like a "0" for instance. See photos for an example.

The data wheel is slightly off center - you can feel it when you rotate it, but it is very slight and does not impede your ability to enter data.

Finally, when you turn the volume all the way down, there is still a slight audible signal. However, it's worth noting that I've used this unit on several commercially-released recordings and none of these issues ever had an impact on this synth's ability to create amazing tones. However, because the synth is over 30 years old, it is sold as-is."

Studio Electronics Boomstar 3003 - The second 2 minutes

"Following on from my first noodle with the 3003, I set about creating a track just using this lively little beast. I got sidetracked and added other stuff but here's just the 3003 parts with a few bars of (unfinished) track context at the end (inc Ableton Live Operator, Maschine and Waldorf Blofeld). The sections are either one, two or three 3003 layers with a touch of UAD EP34 delay on some elements."
