tiergrinder Jupiter Clone Demos

Published on Jul 17, 2015 tiergrinder

1. Jupiter Clone Demo
"Small audio demo from my jupiter clone project.

Latest additions are JP8's cross modulation section and locig for the preset buttons and display driver. There is no patch memory yet but logic for controlling patches and showing patch numbers on LCD's work.

Arpeggiator melodies are from Roland SH01 Gaias arpeggiator where I made arpeggiator patterns similar to JP8's arpeggiator."

2. Jupiter Clone Demo - Work Still In Progress.
"Small demo to show basic parts that are ready and how those work together.

Volume gets pretty high at the middle part of this demo while playing with PWM modulation stuff.

End parts song snippets :
Europe - Final Countdown
Van Halen - Jump
Synthartist69 - That 80's Sound (Adaption by me)"

3.DIY Jupiter Clone - Broken Date
"Jupiter Clones casing is now done and first boards are fitted in.
In this video three voices from total of four are in use. I still need to build last two oscillator cards to get 4 voice polyphony. Filter and VCA for the last two cards is ready but needs tuning.

DR-202 is sequencing midi notes to Midi to CV converter which controls voices polyphonicly. Additional 808 beats and bassline are audioloops that I added in video editor."

4. Jupiter 8 VCO clone
"Short video from my latest DIY build.
This video shows two DIY JP VCO voice cards build on veroboard. Each containing one VCO with saw, square and pulse witdh modulation. Together these two vco cards make one voice. SH101 sends CV to voice cards and GATE trigger to DIY VCADSR circuit.

These is a small error on the info text in the video. Originals NF510 fet is replaced with 2N3819, not with 2N3918 as mentioned in the video."

tiergrinder SH20 - MS20 Style DIY SYNTH

Playlist:

1. SH20 sampleholddemo - Published on Sep 28, 2012
"Simple demo of my DIY ANALOG Synths sample and hold circuit.

LFO1 triggers envelope generator and S&H's clock. Basicly synth is playing itself, S&H takes random voltage from the white noise generator everytime LFO triggers its clock input. Sorry for the poor video/audio quality."

2. DIY SYNTH BASSLINE DEMO - Published on Oct 2, 2012
"DIY SYNTH DEMO

Dirty bassline made with two VCO's both using square wave.
Just wanted to show how this synth sounds with detuning and some PWM tweaking.
I use VCO1's scale switch on couple times to change the octave scale, most of the time VCO1 plays one octave lower than VCO2, as a "sub" oscillator.

Signal path :

VCO1 and VCO2 goes to VCO mixer, there to Moog filter, and there to VCA. Envelope generator 1 controls VCA with sequence triggers from SH101.

This time I managed to get video quality better but sound is still pretty raw :/"

3. DIY SYNTH - ARPEGGIATOR - Published on Oct 2, 2012
"DIY SYNTH SIMPLE ARPGGIATOR DEMO

Simple arpeggiator demo to show how saw waves sound on this diy synth.
I have wrong pot on MS20 filters cutoff.. should be 10K and I have 100K so tweaking is bit tricky :D

VCO1 Saw wave routed to MS20 filter and there to Moog filter
VCO2 Saw wave routed to Moog filter"

tiergrinder TR-808 Clone

Published on Jul 30, 2013 tiergrinder

"This project started when I build couple of 808 sound circuits about a year ago. I had a 808 kick and snare, and later on I wanted to test if I could design the rest of the sound circuits on veroboard too. At the moment I have all the 808 circuits build, apart maracas and cymbal. I packed all the individual sound boards in a case and got a Midibox Core, DIN and DOUT kits from SmashTV to build a MB808 standalone sequencer to trigger sound circuits."

"Nice Original Retro Synth.

In overall good condition.

The keys are fine, with no dead ones, or any problems that I can find.

The pots are working and all seem to do what they should, with the exception of 2 pots.

These are the noise pot, it works but will need looking at as it is very stiff, and the wave form pot, which again is stiff but works.

Other than that it is in good condition for an older synth."

Fifteen to Four (feat. Analog Rytm, Four, Minitaur & MS-20 mini)

Published on Jul 29, 2015 Erwin Dorleijn

"Gear: Elektron Analog Rytm & Analog Four, Moog Minitaur, Korg MS20-mini and the Korg Monotron Delay for extra fx."

Modal 008 Demo 2

"Demo showing off some of the Modal 008's features including PWM, filter modes, filter FM and a sequenced parameter arpeggiator"

Buchla 245 Beat Fun

"Continuing down the same explorations as my earlier Buchla Wavefolded Bass and Beat Fun stuff. This time with a Buchla 245 Sequential Voltage Source driving the ship. For better audio:

New Teaser Synth Pic from Waldorf, Moog, Access Interface Designer Axel Hartmann

This one spotted by Soviet Space Child.

Note the Modulation section with three selectable buttons and Speed & Depth knobs.  The next section appears to have an octave pitch switch and semitone knob.  You can see what looks like a pulse with graphic below the orange label to the left of the bottom knob.  The large white knobs is reminiscent of wavetable knobs on Waldorf synths.  If you can make out more, feel free to comment.

You can see a few the designs Axel Hartmann's Design Box was responsible for here.

Rear Window 3

Published on Jul 28, 2015 John L Rice

"I did two videos during the Fall season of 2014 titled "Rear Window" and "Rear Window 2". This video is very similar to the second one where I routed the output of the last effect pedal in the chain into a pair of mixer inputs instead of the mixer's effects return input to allow generating (mostly) controlled feedback.

So all sounds you are hearing in the first part of this video were created by manipulation of feedback resonance/howl in the mixer and the effects pedals and was done as you see it here, a real-time experimentation (with some edits to chop out the less interesting sections).

This video also contains a 'bonus' part two. I had forgotten to press record on the Marantz PMD-661 flash recorder I use to capture audio coming directly out of the mixer and when I was done with this take I was to tired and annoyed to try again. During editing though I listened to it and even though the video camera audio quality wasn't very good, I still kind of liked it. Not really good enough to be a video of it's own but maybe interesting enough to be a bonus track? ;-)

Equipment list in order of connection:
Mackie 802-VLZ3 mixer effects loop output
TC Electronic Hall Of Fame Mini reverb pedal
MXR/Dunlop Octave Fuzz pedal
Electro-Harmonix Ravish Sitar pedal
TC Electronic Flashback delay pedal
TC Electronic Hall Of Fame reverb pedal
Mackie 802-VLZ3 mixer stereo channel input

Part two adds:
Novation Ultranova keyboard synth (lead/melody noodles)
Korg microStation keyboard synth (ambient rhythm and piano notes)"
