Note the KORG Volca FM does not currently respond to realtime editing via external editors. Instead, it responds to complete patch dumps. For example also check out the Patch Base editor video with the Volca FM here.

"Korg is releasing a new 3 voice, 6 operator fm synthesizer known as the Volca FM. Fm synthesis was very popular in the 80's with the Synclavier and, of course, the Yamaha DX7: one of the most popular synths of that decade. With 80s music experiencing a renaissance, Korg has made this affordable and fun Volca to bring the sound of the DX7 back into the spotlight.

I own a DX7, and like many others, have always found it difficult to program. However, Coffee Shopped's DX Touch iOS App made it very easy to visualize exactly how fm synthesis works, and made it much easier to make my own patches. "This is one of my long "background" pieces where there isn't a lot of structure or development, just a hopefully interesting soundscape to have on while you are doing something else? :-)

You might think parts of this sound reminiscent to parts of György Ligeti's piece titled Requiem that was used in the movie 2001 A Space Odyssey and I agree, hence the title! ;-)

The sound source for the first 14 minutes or so is all Mellotron M4000D controlled by Moon Modular sequencing gear and processed with heavy amounts of Strymon BigSky reverb. The last minute has a bit of the sequence played by Synth Tech audio modules."
