Novation Circuit: Sync External Gear & Building Chords

Published on Nov 16, 2017 Ask.Audio

"Chris -Calc- Calcutt, shows us how easy it is to hook up the Circuit to other hardware synths and, if that wasn’t enough, he shows how to build up chords in the Circuit as well!"

VGM #122: Saria's Song //Lost Woods (Ocarina of Time)

Published on Nov 16, 2017 Ace Waters

"This is a track that I really needed to have a good concept before I covered it. I got the idea to do a 4 to the floor, acoustic meets synth, gabriel inspired cover and just had to go for it. Enjoy!"

iVCS3 Demos by James Edward Including Pink Floyd's “On The Run”

Published on Nov 14, 2017 James Edward

iTunes: iVCS3 - apeSoft

"Pink Floyd’s 'On The Run' cover only using iVCS3 as a sound source and Cubasis to record each separate iVCS3 sound on multiple tracks. These sounds will be released via iVCS3’s Preset and Mod Shop in late 2017."

Note the above starts with "On The Run" and then goes into additional demos of iVCS3 by James Edward. There are a couple of non iVCS3 demos, but considering how many more iVCS3 demos there were I went with the full channel playlist.

via James Edward in the Top 3 iOS Synthesizers ( Best of 2017 ) post by Todd Smith:

"For me there is no more nostalgic iOS recreation than iVCS3. Though it is a difficult beast for most to get to grips with (just like its hardware original) the satisfaction of programming all those iconic sounds is surpassed by none."

Korg Monologue and Minilogue on the kitchen table

Published on Nov 16, 2017 Tony Horgan

"The Monologue is passed through the Minilogue's audio input, which acts as a kind of mixer in this very minimalist set-up. The Minilogue plays an arpeggio pattern and the Monologue is played live on the keyboard. That's all!"

I have a new found appreciation for the DX7 and FM synthesis. I finally got around to exploring my DX-200 again and it offers so much more than your bread and butter sounds. The timbres evolve in a way that actually remind me of the Buchla music easel. I now understand why Barry Shrader explored FM synthesis after the Buchla.

BTW, if you have a DX7 based 6-Op FM synth, I highly recommend the DX7 editor in Patch Base by Coffeeshopped LLC. Be sure to click the little algorithm icon on the bottom left of the editor. It will arrange the operators on screen according to the selected algorithm. You can also double tap any oscillator to bring up a larger screen to edit. If you own an iPad it's a must have editor imo.
