Studio Electronics V2 Boomstars

Published on Feb 21, 2018 Perfect Circuit Audio

"We had a chance to play with the new Boomstar synths from Studio Electronics. They all have a similar architecture with two VCOs, noise generator, two ADSR envelope generators, an LFO and a filter based on a vintage synthesizer. The 8106 has a Roland style filter, 4072 with and Arp filter, SEM with SEM filter and SE80 with CS-80 filters. In this video all four synths are sequenced with an Arturia Beatstep-Pro, the 8106 makes a kick sound, the SEM a snare sound, the 4072 a bass sound wth oscillator sync, and the SE80 makes a pseudo chord sound with one oscillator droning at the root note and the other oscillator being voltage controlled.

Synth Jams I Album by Marcus Padrini

Marcus Padrini, featured numerous times here on MATRIXSYNTH, has a new release out titled Synth Jams. Above are three videos featuring his music: 522 - [previously posted here], Synth Odyssey - [previously posted here], Influences [previously posted here]. Details on the release including links to your favorite platforms follow:

"Synth Jams I is a compilation of tracks recorded live using analog and digital synthesizers and drum machines. The songs were created from improvisations with different instruments and were captured practically the moment after their creation.

With influences from the songs and timbres of classic and new artists like Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre, Erik Norlander and Kebu, besides several works of electronic/instrumental music, the tracks of the album do not have a common style, but they share a main element: the sounds created with synthesizers.

In this process, the idea was to interact with the instruments, create and manipulate sounds in real time. It was also part of the plan to leave the computer and music production software out of this process. Therefore, anything that could not be played simultaneously live was performed by a MIDI sequencer (Roland MC808).

Bob Moog Foundation Features Two Compilations by Pioneering Synthesist Joel Chadabe.

via the Bob Moog Foundation

"We are proud feature two new compilations of music by internationally recognized pioneering synthesist Joel Chadabe. The albums, Electric Sound and Chadabe & Moog, which include compositions from 1966-1987, will be available through the Foundation’s online store. All proceeds from the sale of the CDs will benefit its educational and historic preservation projects."

Chadabe was an early adaptor of the Moog modular synthesizer, using it in compositions as early as 1966. In 1967, while director of the Electronic Music Studio at State University of New York at Albany, he proposed the concept for a new electronic music system. He then designed the legendary CEMS (Coordinated Electronic Music Studio) System and, with support from a SUNY research grant, commissioned Robert Moog to build it..."

VCS3 meets Elektron Digitakt and Analog Keys

Published on Feb 21, 2018 Scot Solida

"It started out as Berlin School and went... somewhere else. All sounds made by EMS VCS3 played live, sequenced by Elektron Analog Keys, or sampled into Elektron Digitakt and sequenced. The VCS3 was routed into the Analog Keys inputs, where echo was added. The Analog Keys output was recorded through Chandler Limited TG2 preamp. For the samples, I recorded the VCS3 through a Chandler Limited REDD.47 preamp directly onto the Digitakt."

TEMPI Science

1. TEMPI Science: Triggers & Gates Pt. 1: Creative Gate Destinations
"Don't forget, gates can be patched to CV Inputs! Rhythmically switch between parameter settings as determined by panel control and attenuator. Add rhythm to drones and liven up sequences."

2. TEMPI Science Pt. 2: Gates and Momentary Inputs
"For 'toggled' inputs, gates or triggers are equally well-suited, but for momentary inputs such as the Echophon's FREEZE or MATHS' CYCLE, you will want to use gates that stay high for as long as you want that input to be active."
