Synthesizer Show & Tell - Roland Juno-60

Published on May 22, 2018 Steve Learson

Synthesizer Show & Tell EP: 3 Covers the Roland Juno-60.

Each week I challenge myself to write a piece of music using only one synth from my collection, and share some tips and tricks on how to use the instrument.

The Juno 60 is a 6 note DCO polyphonic synth from 1982 with memory storage, designated slider controls, and an arpeggiator. It has been used in many recordings from the 80’s to today.

Synthesizer Show & Tell - Behringer Model D (Minimoog Clone)

Published on Apr 30, 2018

"This video contains a short piece of music I wrote the first day I obtained this synth. This video highlights some sounds I made along with tips and tricks for the Behringer Model D Analog Synthesizer.

One issue I addressed is how to change the "Low Note Priority" from "Low," to "High," to "Last," which is a problem I could not find the solution to on the internet.

G-STORM ELECTRO 2xADSR Dual Envelope Euorack Module Demo

"Audio and Video by G-Storm Electro c.2018

In this quick demo I show my new 2xADSR DIY Eurorack Module. 2xADSR is a dual envelope module in 8HP based on the Arturia Minibrute. I am playing midi from the Axiom49, using the Pittsburgh MIDI3 module to convert MIDI to Pitch CV and Gate. The gate feeds the 2xADSR. The envelope contour is sent via a buffer mult to control both the Tonus VCF filter cutoff AND Bastl Skis VCA. I interchange the trigger input with the Varigate4 as well. I'm doing all this mainly to show the linear contour characteristic, how long the attack and release can be, and how snappy short decay & release sounds.

The BOM and Schematics for this project can be found on muffwiggler.

2xADSR is a dual envelope module in 8HP Eurorack format based on the Arturia Minibrute. Arturia has shared the schematics openly on the internet, so it would seem reasonable to have adapted a fun DIY panel/pcb project for educational purposes under fair use. Each envelope is an independent Attack-Decay-Sustain-Release linear contour. Each envelope takes a gate input and puts out a positive-voltage contour output. I have added a buffered negative-voltage (DC inverted) contour to the circuit. Surface-mount soldering required, I would not recommend this as your very first SMT build - maybe your 2nd or 3rd SMT build though. 1206 resistors and 0805 capacitors, it uses all very affordable and easy-to-find parts as found below in the BOM.

Module Depth: 22mm
Current Measurements: 27mA/+12V, 3mA-12V, 0mA/+5V (not used)

Tips n' Tricks: Unlocking the Moog DFAM's 3rd Oscillator

Published on May 22, 2018 Alastair Wilson

"Welcome to a new series of tutorials called 'Tips n' Tricks', in which I'll be making short tutorials to help you get the most out of your gear! I thought that this would be a better way to share what I've discovered than '5 Things You Didn't Know' videos, as now you can see in the title what the tutorial will be about.

In this video, we trigger the filter envelope so fast that it becomes a 3rd 'oscillator', by turning up the sequencer tempo. As it happens, the tempo tracks nicely at 1V/Oct, allowing us to use it melodically alongside the other oscillators. If you have a buffered mult or more than 1 pitch output on your keyboard, then try playing all 3 oscillators at once for a classic monosynth sound!"
