"SOUND SEMICONDUCTOR GOES BIG ON QUAD VCA DATA SHEET

Provides Broad Content on Use, Circuit Operation, and Numerous Applications

August 8, 2018 – Audio IC specialist Sound Semiconductor® today announced a significant update to the data sheet for its SSI2164 FatkeysTM Quad Voltage Controlled Amplifier.

The SSI2164 Quad VCA, introduced earlier this year, now has a comprehensive data sheet to go with it. The sixteen-page data sheet includes a wealth of information spanning from general use to real-world applications, and includes a description of circuit operation. Content is arranged to satisfy a range of technical abilities from DIY enthusiast to seasoned circuit designer.

Special applications include zero to 5V linear and exponential control, voltage controlled filters, and a novel temperature compensated exponential voltage to current converter by synth design icon Dave Rossum.

'We wouldn’t normally announce a data sheet update,” stated Dan Parks, President of Sound Semiconductor. "But this one is significant and in keeping with our goal of providing best-in-class data sheets to support a wide range of users.'

The data sheet is available now, and can be download from www.soundsemiconductor.com. [captured as JPEGs in this post]

Sound Semiconductor is composed of musicians and technologists with the goal of developing affordable, high-performance integrated circuits for the electronic music and professional audio markets."

La Di Da Da - Live performance with Pocket Operators - Speak, Robot and Arcade

Published on Aug 8, 2018 Brian Leahy Art

"Live performance of my song 'La Di Da Da' with Pocket Operators!

I sampled my voice for this song with the Pocket Operator Speak and I discovered that using the 'Stutter Sweep' effect (#9) on that vocal sample creates this bizarre, awesome speaker-breaking bass swell. (Hear it in action at 1:45 in the video). I've never heard this effect sound this way before so it must be something particular about that vocal sample causing it to glitch out like that. In any case, happy accident. Love it!

Amirali - Against The Clock [with Ableton & DSI Synths]

"A Balearic sunset soundtrack in 10 minutes.

Iran-born producer Amirali started attracting attention back in 2012 with his lush, club-rooted soundscapes back in 2012 with his debut album for Crosstown Rebels, In Time.

His latest EP, Odyssey, sees him continue to develop his rich style of house music with the kind of sunny Balearic textures custom-made for Ibizan sunsets.

We put his skills to the test on this week's Against The Clock, where he made an atmospheric, downtempo slow-burner from his north London studio featuring live vocals and a few carefully selected pieces of gear running with Ableton Live.

Amirali will be presenting a collaborative concert with The Tonhalle Orchestra Zürich on October 5th.

GFI Clockwork V3 And Specular Reverb V3 With Modor NF-1m

Published on Aug 8, 2018 Perfect Circuit Audio

"The GFI Clockwork V3 and Specular Reverb V3 are stereo delay and reverb pedals with 7 algorithms each. We used the Modor NF-1m synthesizer as a sound source, this digital synthesizer has analog style routing with a formant filter as well as a regular filter. The Clockwork's delay algorithms have some standard digital, analog and multi-tap styles as well as some interesting diffusion and ambient delay types. The Specular Reverb algorithms include standard sounds as well as some more unique sounds like a vocal reverb mode.

DeltaEffexxSpectralis

Published on Aug 8, 2018 Jörg Schaaf

"The Delta CEP A repeats just one note with a fat swarm oscillator sound. The output of the Delta is fed into the EFFEXX Multi FX module for some reverb. The RT-1701 effect setting adds a nice dark atmosphere to the sound. All other instruments are sequenced and played by the Spectralis 2 Synthesizer. BTW. - the Spectralis II drum sounds in this example are samples that I created with our Eurorack modules.

The DELTA CEP A is a new semimodular musicsynthesizer with monophonic and paraphonic playmodes, preset memories and snapshot automation. The DELTA CEP A is the perfect starting point into the EURORACK world and will become available soon as desktop standalone synthesizer and EURORACK module. The DELTA CEP A works just out of the box without any cable patching. If you are looking for a EURORACK FX unit or for POLYPHONY within your cabinet, you should also have a closer look as well. Are you curious about connectivity with your other gear? The DELTA CEP A has a MIDI interface and connects to every MIDI gear (MIDI sequencers, Keyboards etc.) The desktop version comes with standard 1/4 inch jack inputs and outputs.

The audio streams in that video are directly recorded from the main outs of the Delta. We have not used any compression or volume automation. What you hear is the original sound of the unit. If you have the impression, that it is not loud enough, please just adjust the volume;-)"

Planar 2! Introducing CV Recording and CV Input Modes

Published on Aug 8, 2018 Intellijel

Planar2 was first introduced at SUPERBOOTH18.

"With its smoothly responsive precision joystick, Planar2 facilitates hands-on vector control of two entirely independent sets of outputs (quadrants A-D, and axis X/Y), plus the ability to capture and playback your gestures. Recording your joystick movements enables the creation of organic and complex envelopes, wild and wobbly LFOs, or extended sonic evolutions. It mixes, morphs, routes and pans audio inputs; triggers gates; outputs control voltages and is itself, CV-controllable. Planar2 puts the ‘joy’ back in ‘joystick,’ and the ‘fun’ back in ‘function generator.’ Its multitasking and tactile interface makes it a flexible and unique control device, no matter what your musical genre.

Features
Vector control of two independent sets of outputs: one quadrant-based (outputs A, B, C, D) and one dual-axis based (outputs X and Y).
X/Y Controller: two-axis CV generator sends either unipolar (0V to +10V) or bipolar (-5V to +5V) signal out the X and Y outputs.
Four Quadrant Controller: With nothing connected to inputs A-D, outputs A-D become joystick-controlled individual unipolar (0V to +10V) control voltage sources.
Quad mixing & crossfading: Vector mixing and crossfading of four independent inputs (A, B, C, D) to either individual outputs or the mixed output.
Quad panning: connect a mono source to Input A and use the joystick to pan it to any of the four outputs. Connect a stereo signal to Inputs A and C and pan it forward and backward in quadraphonic space.
Quad routing: Send audio to Input A and patch outputs A-D to four different processors (i.e. VCF, wavefolder, delay, etc.), then use the joystick to dynamically route the signal through the different effects.
Gate Generator: Generate gates either manually (by pressing the Manual Gate button) or automatically whenever the joystick is in motion.
CV Gesture Recorder: Record joystick motions (including gates) to play back either as 1-shot complex function generators or as looped, LFO-like functions. Start time and length can sync to an external trigger, and punch-in/out recording is supported.
External CV Inputs: In addition to its built-in joystick, Planar2 has two CV inputs, which allows external CV control of quadrant outputs A-D and axis outputs X/Y. A mode switch alters how CV affects these outputs, allowing for some advanced automation techniques (such as circular and spinning motions) that would otherwise be difficult to automate."
