Novation // Animistic Beliefs - Circuit Mono Station

Published on Sep 3, 2018 NovationTV

"Animistic Beliefs recently invited us to their Rotterdam studio where we were lucky enough to be able to capture a performance of an exclusive track with them.

Their performance setup included a Eurorack Modular System, Elektron Digitone, Roland TR808 and the Circuit Mono Station, with Mono Station used for the bassline and as the main clock for the other devices.

Decksaver Arturia MatrixBrute Cover on Kickstarter

via Decksaver on Kickstarter

"We've decided on Kickstarter projects to manufacture some of the more niche covers that we get requests for.

In order to produce a new decksaver cover, expensive tooling is needed. This means it's a gamble as often the cover's sales do not recoup the outlay for the tooling and maufacture. For this reason, there are units we can't justify making a cover for as it's too much of a risk.

The idea of these Kickstarter projects is if 200 people pledge this will pay for the design, tooling, production, manufacturing costs and help our customers out by giving them a cover they really need.

The first of these covers will be for the Arturia Matrixbrute and it will feature 'Soft-Fit' inserts to protect the vulnerable wooden elements of the synth from any friction with the cover.

The MatrixBrute's multi-angle front control panel will need to be in the flat position to apply the Decksaver cover. This is so it is compatible with other cases (for those who wish to tour will the synth) and so that the wooden side panels can be protected. We have thought long and hard about this and there is no way to accommodate the control panel in an upright position without compromising the cover.

The cover will be made in the UK from top quality materials, as always.

*Please note that outside of the European Union you will be responsible for paying any customs import charges incurred

Risks and challenges

The MatrixBrute is a physically unorthodox synth, so this will be a challenging cover requiring a lot of design and development.

There will be several points of contact between the synth's laminated wooden parts and cover which need soft fit inserts."

Squarp Instruments introduces pyraOS 3.0 firmware update for Pyramid Polyrhythmic Sequencer

You can find some videos of the update in previous posts here. The official press release follows.

"PARIS, FRANCE: following five months of beta-testing, avant-garde musical machines developer Squarp Instruments is proud to announce availability of pyraOS 3.0 — a free, major update of the radical realtime processing system firmware for its innovative Pyramid Polyrhythmic Sequencer, an advanced 64-track desktop design with MIDI, MIDI USB, CV/Gate, and (Sync48- and Sync24-configurable) DIN Sync connectivity, creatively adding all the most requested features from its supportive user base alongside innovative ideas from its design team to total over 30 additions — as of September 3…

Polyrhythm is defined as a rhythm which makes use of two or more rhythms simultaneously, so Squarp Instruments’ Pyramid Polyrhythmic Sequencer certainly takes some beating as an advanced 64-track desktop design with MIDI, MIDI USB, CV/Gate, and (Sync48- and Sync24-configurable) DIN Sync connectivity (‘re-released’ last year as a more robust MKII version, thanks to the machined aluminium housing and a sturdy screen protecting its graphical display); different and unusual time signatures can creatively be set to work on each of those tracks to shape shifted-beat sequences, sowing the seeds for freshly-flavoured musical productions. Perfectly designed from the ground up as a modern, easy-to-use, and versatile hardware sequencer, the Pyramid Polyrhythmic Sequencer deftly delivers a radical workflow and almost unlimited possibilities... powerful sequencing, looping, rhythm generation, real-time effect processing, MIDI control, and input+output interfacing are far from beyond the realms of possibility. Put it this way: Pyramid Polyrhythmic Sequencer is perfectly positioned to take centre stage in any musical setup — spanning studio to stage.

Monday Rain (TX Wiggles 34)

Published on Sep 3, 2018 poorness studios

"I woke Labor Day morning to a rainy gloomy Monday. I opened a window to listen to the rain and got an idea. I put a microphone on the window sill to record the rain, and then did a jam. I mixed the rain track separately to get the levels right. This is a first take (well, technically a second take because I forgot to hit record and then noticed a minute or so later).

I used a simple 1 osc patch on the modular, a Korg Volca Beats, my Minibrute, and a DSI Mopho. It came out pretty cool, but the good thing is, it stopped raining less than a hour later so I'm glad I recorded it while I could."
