Meng Qi Wing Pinger Prototype Videos

Published on May 1, 2019 Meng Qi

Playlist:

1. Wing Pinger - Chaos
With multiple feedback and cross modulation paths, Wing Pinger operates according to the principles of chaos theory. All parameters except volume are interactive, future outputs are related to the current state as well as parameter settings.
2. Wing Pinger - CVGate
Wing Pinger talks to modular synthesizers via Banana jacks. Use TRIGGER outputs to sync external synthesizers to filter pings. STEP outputs are weighted mixes from shift registers.
3. Wing Pinger - Tonal Patterning
Be chaotic at will, you don't miss the expressions from melodies. Wing Pinger is capable of generating pentatonic patterns from its carefully weighted STEP modulation.
4. Wing Pinger - External Sound Processing
Process stereo or dual mono signals through great sounding filters, add spice to the tone, generate movements with special Wing Pinger modulations.

Wing Pinger will be at SUPERBOOTH and other events. You can find the list on the Meng Qi website.

"Your link to organic analog texture, rhythm, noise and melodies.

Travels between chaotic and tonal passages as fast as your emotions shift.

It encourages fine playing gestures and rewards practicing.

Wing Pinger is an analog musical instrument, centered around a pair of 4-pole resonate low pass filters.

Surrounded by a network of comparators, pulse converters, binary counters and shift registers.

Despite the absence of oscillators, it's fully capable, and actually designed to generate sound on its own."

PM Foundations SEM Tribute Modules - Comparison with Vintage SEMs

Published on May 1, 2019 Randy Piscione

1. reSEMble 1 of 2
Quick comparison of an Oberheim SEM and the new SEM-tribute modules from PM Foundations. The SEM audio is on the left, PMF modules are on the right. This is live. I tried to play similar lines on both keyboards. It is tricky to get the patches exactly the same, especially when tweaking live like this. The "echo" you hear is actually the other keyboard and modules being played. Headphones are certainly helpful on this one.

These are not clones. I asked Tom Oberheim about doing an SEM clone for Eurorack, and he referred me to a friend of his who has been helping him since the 1970s. We had a long phone conversation and his take on Tom's take is that Tom would rather see us develop something new, even if it is based on his work. So, that was our goal.
2. reSEMble 2 of 2
This is a brief overview of the new “SEM Tribute” modules from PM Foundations. Featured are two VCOs, the VCF, one envelope generator and the first version prototype of the modulation module. The little musical excerpt at the start is the new modules playing bass, along with an Alesis SR-16 on drums and Casio CZ-101 doing the chords.

Roland Juno-106 Gravitational Slingshot Other-worldly Resonance Demo #2

Published on May 1, 2019 gstormelectro

Part 1 here.

"Audio and Video by G-Storm Electro c. 2019

Today I hastily prepared a follow up demo of my Juno-106 Gravitational Slingshot upgrade chips by Analogue Renaissance. I'm still getting to know these new chips, and getting a few questions: what's the difference, should I switch? Aside from the bass frequencies being less muddy, to me the filter resonance sounds less shrill, yet more other-worldly. There are strange interactions between the resonance and other synth parameters. With this realization, the colorful name Gravitational Slingshot seems acutely fitting.

So to me it's better to show every setting on the synth panel, in manual mode - everything on the synth front panel is 'live'. And you can see, and reproduce these settings on your own synth, having original chips. To know for yourself what the difference in sound may be.

It goes without saying, a video such as this - lengthy excursions into filter self-resonance - will have some high-frequency content so watch your levels. Also gratuitous synth-parameter noodling, non-musical in-harmonic content, and generally interminable racket.

Audio recorded direct to Tascam DR-05
No additional effects."

Kit Overview # 39 - Roman Sowa´s Pierdzidelko

"A demo of Roman Sowa´s cool new noise maker kit, the Pierdzidelko!
Build video coming soon!"

"DIY kit is what kids today love the most, so here it is, first kit from MIDI-hardware!
It's rather complex build consisting of roughly 150 parts, so prepare for 2 hours of soldering. And hopefully you will enjoy playing it just as much as assembling it. This is four-oscillator cross-modulation drone sound generator, that can also play nice and polite sounds, even controled via external Hz/V signal. But that's not why it was made for. There are 4 identical VCOs, each producing 3 waveforms that can be separately mixed to audio output and to modulation matrix. Each VCO can frequency modulate all other 3 VCOs, so you can expect wild and crazy sounds coming out of it."

"The unit has one connection plug - Soviet 5DIN. It's used as an addition to FORMANTA UDS drum sets. MINT condition, comes in original packing with shoulder stripe and connection cable.
It has 7 buttons on the front side and 2 on the back. According to manual while tapping the "SPHERIC THING" the unit sends trigger commands to the control module. Probably it can trigger any drum machine or kinda.

The unit has a velocity-sensitive piezo trigger pad under sphere and nine red knobs:
seven on the front for choosing which drum sound you wanted to trigger from the synth and two back knobs for switching "preset" or "synth" sound mode on the synthesizer."

Working condition.

"The RF Nomad brings sideband shortwave radio into Eurorack! This module is a great noise source and strange audio generator. There are tends to be dead spots but once you find something it is almost always interesting and can reach really far! This module is in great shape with just some rack rash and includes a short antenna. It is advised to find the longest antenna possible for the best results!"

"The Wogglebug is a source for all sorts of randomness. It has several voltage outputs that can be influenced by other CV signals, 3 audio outputs of chaotic noises, a clock generator, and random pulse output. It works great as a hub for CVs and gates. This module is in good working condition with very little rack rash."
