"Softtube Modular has introduced a new module from renowned modular manufacturer Vermona. Nick reviewed Softtube Modular a while back and was impressed with the resolution of the software.

Vermona Random Rhythm is an 8 channel random gate/trigger generator for your modular synth, in this case Softtube Modular. You have two different sides to the unit, real time randomness and Dice mode. Realtime means that the module is continuously generating new random values for each note value whereas in dice-mode it generates them for a complete 3/4- or 4/4-bar. In both modes, even if a bar has been diced, the sliders still influence the resulting sequence.

Softtube Modular makes these modules much more accessible to the wider world. We caught up with Tod to take a look."

Superbooth 20HE: 4ms Ensemble Oscillator and Percussion Interface

"We actually gave the Ensemble Oscillator from 4ms an award at NAMM this year so we were happy to hook up with Dan Green to take another look at it and see how things were progressing with production. We also took a look at their new Percussion Interface module.

The Ensemble Oscillator is a unique Eurorack oscillator cluster, it blurs the lines between waveshaping and polyphony in some very interesting ways. You can quantize the oscillators to scales or a series of harmonics to get crazy and interesting combinations."

"In this video we hooked up with WMD’s Alex to check out their new modules for 2020. First of all we looked at Axxent which is an expander for WMD’s Metron trigger sequencer. Axxent gives you 16 extra accent tracks for the Metron sequencer. Taking the trigger count of Metron up to 32!!

Time warp is a two channel gated slew module. When a trigger is present the module will slew a cv signal, it can also be switched so that instead of slewing when a gate is present it can slew all the time and not slew when the gate is present. It also has a host of other features, let Alex walk you through it all…

We also took a look at WMD’s new 3 channel switch module S3lekt. All three modules are below $200. For more information check out WMD."

Superbooth 20HE: ALM System Coupe - Complete Eurorack System

"ALM Busy Circuits System Coupe is ALM’s first foray into a complete modular system. The System Coupe ships with an arrangement of some of ALM’s most popular modules including; Pamela’s New Workout, Squid Salmple, MCO, Tangle Quartet and more. It also features a couple of unique modules to the system including a simple Mult and utility module called Milton.

The idea of the system is designed to create a full palette of modules for music making. The Squid Salmpler can be used in a variety of different ways from simple drum sampler triggering to a weird sampling delay and much more.

The System Coupe comes in a unique colour scheme, grey background with white writing and magenta and blue knobs. It is housed in ALM’s own case design and comes with their own power supply. The system should be available imminently and will cost £1899."

"DBs Music and Omsonic have collaborated on a new module that takes the idea of probabilistic voltage control and puts it into a eurorack module. It is part sequencer, part random voltage source. Drawing from the John Cage idea that the job of the composer is to create the situation where complexity can occur.

The idea is that every aspect of a note; pitch, duration, portamento, envelope etc is under probabilistic control. So the idea is that instead of programming it like a sequencer or playing it like an instrument you set up the constraints for it to make music and then let it do its thing. As it is creating sequences you can interact with it and loop certain phrases.

For a deeper understanding of the module Phin gives us a demo of how you would build a sequence."

"Just down the road in Bristol we managed to catch up with Mr Finlay Shakespeare at Future Sound Systems. Having just released his sophomore album Finlay has also found the time to release his second VCO the Recombination Engine.

The Recombination Engine is a triple oscillator design that has some very unique features for creating waveforms. Built around a new generation of CEM3340 VCO chips the Recombination Engine uses a novel novel wave-splicing technique to create waveforms.
