"THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL": ABBA Mini Cover On Legendary Korg Prophecy Synthesizer (1995 Model)

Microflat

"This video will demo the legendary 3-octave Korg Prophecy solo synthesizer (25 years old) by use of three default patches in a mini cover of ABBA's major 1980 hit "The Winner Takes It All". A stunning song that I simply love even though the lyrics are quite sad.

I used patch "A39 Neo Bell" for the choir voice, "A53 Mini Korg 700s" for the melody and "B07 Glass Toy" for the structure fill. Tempo is 126 BPM.

Video clips were recorded in 4K (60 fps) on a Panasonic Lumix GH5 and edited in Adobe Rush. Audio was recorded in 96 KHz 24 bit on a Solid State Logic 2+ thunderbolt 3 audio interface straight into Propellerhead Reason 9. FX like a bit of reverb, chorus, dynamics and mastering has been added to the B07 patch in post-production in Adobe Audition in order to imitate the orginal song's piano-driven 'wall of sound'."

Ambient Mood - Rain (Korg Minilogue and Moog Mother 32)

SyllixMusic

"I wanted to work with some natural ambience so I found a recording of rain I had and layered it with some ambient pads from the Korg Minilogue. The Mother 32 is playing a randomized sequence with a random tempo, which is then fed through a granular plugin which which basically smears and stretches the notes into pad-like sounds. Everything is then drowned in reverb.

I'm quite happy with the result, so I may experiment with more minimal ambient music overtop of natural sounds, like waves, wind, etc. Thanks for listening!

Digitura on Analog vs Digital vs Analog Modeled Synthesizers

Supporting member Digitura has a post up on Analog vs Digital vs Analog Modeled Synthesizers. And yes, analog modeling is digital. Click through for the full post including some demo comparisons.

"In today's world, synthesizers (or synths) are considered one of the key points in modern music genres, being constantly used in many producers and musician’s home studios

This brings a lot of doubt regarding which synth to choose. I’m pretty sure you all have noticed a revival of vintage gear in the last decades, and everybody's getting mad to put their hands on classic synths.

There has been a long debate regarding the differences between analog and digital synths: The idea that Analog synths sound better prevail for a long time. That was until recent days that thanks to the computing power we have a third option: Analog modeled synthesizers, also known as virtual analog emulation. In this article we will compare the 3 options, show some audio samples so you can make your own impression and gather some conclusions."
