Best Ambient Synth Shootout #97: Alesis S4 QuadraSynth - Song 2

Christian's Sonic Spaces

"This is the second song with the S4 QuadraSynth. It's a 64 voice 16-part multitimbral ROM-based synthesizer from the early 90s.

I used for the recording the following FX chain:
S4 QuadraSynth - Digitech Obscura - Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe - GFI System Specular Reverb 2. Depending on the recorded track some FX are deactivated

The signal went through a Presonus StudioLive 16.0.2 into the PC via USB for recording. To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with a bit EQ and compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track."

"The really interesting thing about this is the filter section. It has attack, decay, sustain, cut off and resonance controls, as well as something called waw, which is a bit like an LFO of sorts. These extra controls coupled with the classic Casiotone sounds makes this a really interesting little keyboard/synth. You can route the filter section to the inbuilt drum sounds, tone sounds or a built in noise generator."

"Here's a nice, restored ARP Omni 2... with MIDI!! This synthesizer has just been fully serviced by Synthchaser, the United States' leading ARP specialist - recapped, new key bushings, new LED sliders, clean, fully functional, calibrated, in tune and sounding great. And best of all, this has been fitted with the Synthchaser MIDI Adapter! This keyboard is the sound of Joy Division and is all over The Cars' "Moving In Stereo", and many other late 70's/early 80's albums. It produces the lush Solina/String Ensemble sounds plus has a polyphonic synthesizer section with a voltage controlled filter, LFO, and ADSR, and a dedicated bass synthesizer section.

"Now, this is truly special: Super rare, very hard to find. It took me decades to find them. All 3 of the very highly regarded ASB modules from the Original Inventor Creamware in Germany. Many say that those here are better than any VST Emulations.

Super Powerful Synth Modules.
Each one updated to the latest Firmware.
Everything works. Sounds like a charm!"

"Just serviced. All sliders, buttons, knobs, keys work as they should and a fresh battery was installed for years of reliable patch storage. Does not have the Europa mod installed. I personally do not recommend europa, I owned a Europa Jupiter before and it had a habit of glitching out and removed the clock-in function which was essential for using directly with drum machines.

The Jupiter-6 was stored in a case for most of its lifetime and the case foam melted onto the synth. Luckily the case was form fitted so it did not get onto the sliders, controls, and keys, but chassis has been covered with melted foam appears to have dried and fused with the finish. I’m not sure how to remove it properly and I don’t want to risk but it’s purely cosmetic and the synth is fully functional.

I do not want to attempt to remove the foam myself in fear of damaging the synth so I will leave that up to the owner. Besides the foam, the synth is really clean."
