Yamaha QX5-FD from 1988 | The last QX sequencer

video upload by Espen Kraft

"The Yamaha QX5-FD from 1988. The last sequencer in the QX lineup from Yamaha. Unlike the other models that came before it, this has a slightly different design. Made to compete with the Roland MC-500 first and foremost.
Yamaha would continue with the QY-line, as well as the RS7000 and RM1X that were more like groove boxes.
Now, with this quite odd late 80s release from Yamaha I can truly say my collection of QX sequencers are complete. :)
Many thanks to the donor!"

An intro to Stolperbeats by Making Sound Machines // Dilla style humanised beat sequencing (+ more!)

video upload by DivKidVideo

"Hello and welcome to this video on Stolperbeats from Making Sound Machines. This is a quick introductory overview to the module, some of the features and me making some beats and having fun with the module.

Stolper is German for ‘stumble’ with Stolperbeats meaning stumbling beats that cover the grooves and musical feels of drunk, wonky, lazy, off kilter hip hop rhythms with humanised timings, flams and custom shuffle and swing settings. With modes for DILLA, SHAKE, PUSH and CLAVE you can dial in the general musical feel and timings you’re going for then alter the amount of shuffle. At its core the module is a drum sequencer, offering both step sequencing and patterns for kick snare, 2 hi hats and 2 percussion lines as well as various sync and clock division outputs. So there’s plenty to go at for modular sequencing (and MIDI if that floats your boat).

A full demo video will come around the launch of the module, so ask questions in the comments and let chat about what you’d like to see from the module in the main demo video.

Noise Lab Clang and Wrinkler - first look and comparison

video upload by John Schussler

"'Clank & Wrinkler' sounds like a good name for a law firm. In this case, it's actually the two latest modules from Noise Lab in Sweden. Clank is a combination wave folder and ring modulator, Wrinkler is a wave folder.

Here I'm showing them next to a 'standard' ring modulator (from Random*Source/Serge) and wavefolder (Intelllijel Bifold). Both the Clank and Wrinkler have new features that make them unique, so I'm interested to hear them next to the 'traditional' sound.

As usual, envelope is Zadar, sequence is from Stochastic IG, and VCO is a Dixie II+ tri wave (until the latter part where I use the square).

CLANG - Ring folder. A new eurorack module from Noise Lab Sweden.

video upload by Noise Lab Sweden

"Introducing CLANG! This new module from Noise Lab combines ring modulation and wavefolding in a pretty unique way. With just a sine or triangle wave you can create anything from bells and shrills to deep, brooding basses. Extremely versatile and plenty of sweet spots!"
Noise Lab Modules (DEMO)

video upload by Noise Lab Sweden

"Here's a demonstration of six new eurorack modules from Noise Lab (Sweden). All audio recorded directly into the camera, no processing or effects were added to convey a completely pure and unaltered sound. No talking. Find out more at: https://www.noiselab.se/"

"CLANG Ring Folder

Clang is a unique combination of a four-quadrant multiplier (ring modulator) and wave folder that can generate a wide range of interesting sounds from just a sine or triangle waveform. From screeching drones and strange bell sounds to plucky tones or center aligned pwm waveforms. Three inputs which accept both audio and control voltages, and two outputs with slightly different functions: the left simply provides the processed sound, while the right routes the signal via a VCA, controlled by the Offset Mod input and its level knob. Clang also has an integrated triangle oscillator normalled to the Y input.

RM Mode switch (Ring Modes)
1: Four-quadrant multiplier. Modulation of the carrier signal with offset control. Ideal for producing typical bell-like tones.
2: A single stage, soft folding circuit that bends the waveform and adds extra harmonics to the carrier waveform.
Offset Mod input can be used to animate the folded signal.
3: A hard fold circuit that generates an unusual center aligned pwm-like waveform.

Width: 8HP
Depth: 26 mm
Power: 25 mA (+12 V) / 25 mA (-12 V)

WRINKLER Wave Shaper

The Wrinkler consists of a primary wavefolder circuit and a secondary “creaser”, both controllable via knobs and CV. Generally wave folders only work with low harmonic content such as sine or triangle waveforms but this one comes with circuitry that can fold and wrinkle ANY waveform you feed into it, including square waves! An offset function adds some extra sonic abilities to the mix. The Wrinkler got two outputs; one with the folded signal and one with a “squarified” version of the folds. Perfect for creating harsh, metallic sounds.

When folding a waveform you add a lot of harmonic overtones to it. Unfortunately in the process, the fundamental gets weaker and you will lose some of its original low end content. With the DRY LEVEL knob you simply blend the original waveform with the folded.

Width: 12HP
Depth: 26 mm
Power: 46 mA (+12 V) / 46 mA (-12 V)

via https://www.roberisdesign.com

"Opto is a compact modular synthesiser system based on the west coast synthesis paradigm. The system is designed to give a huge amount or sonic possibilities in an extremely small and portable format. The user configurable touch controller can be used to interact with the system in a huge variety of ways depending on how the user patches it. Opto utilises the Eurorack standard allowing users to swap out the standard modules for thousands of available Eurorack modules from other manufacturers.

The Aesthetic design unashamedly takes influence from German minimalism and combines this with the flair of classic west coast synthesisers."

Morphor AP-1 - Analogue String Synthesis Eurorack Module

video uploads by Morphor

via the Morphor AP-1 Kickstarter

The Morphor AP-1 module is a fully analogue Eurorack module that can produce plucked string sounds. Based on the Karplus-Strong principle, this module is a compact all-in-one solution for generating amazing bass, acoustic guitar and percussion sounds. By using high quality analogue components we made a module with a rich sound. Being only 10HP in width, you won't need a lot of space to get going and start creating some incredible music. Background

I am Thijs, based in Belgium, dipping my toes into developing modules for the first time. After recently graduating as an electronics engineer, I'm currently looking for ways to use my skills and passions to create new things that people love. Thanks to Eli and Matthew from ENT Studios, music lovers who have been just as passionate about this project, this dream is coming to reality. They have over 15 years of experience as electronics engineers and have been supporting me with technical advice, frontplate design and more.

The idea for the Morphor AP-1 module came from personal experience and interests. Being extremely passionate about music, playing bass myself and having some experience with string synthesis in software, the idea to bring this concept to Eurorack in a completely analogue way was obvious from the start. After months of tinkering away I am confident enough in my working prototype to share this exciting project with the world.

The Morphor AP-1 module can produce plucked string sounds with a wide variety of sounds. The module has the following controls:

GATE: to pluck the string, simply insert a 5V pulse into the input. Short triggers work great but you can play around with longer pulses to get rougher sounds.
TUNE: change the frequency of the string with a 1V/oct input. Afterwards you can generate vibrato and other effects with a separate CV pitch input.
COLOUR: you can alter the timbre of the string with this control, including a CV input. This way you can get very noisy or dampened sounds.
FILTER BYPASS: the colour parameter is shaped by an internal filter but can be bypassed if you like. Use your own external filter to generate unique sounds. A one pole low pass filter will give the best results but feel free to get creative with this feature. You can insert anything you like into the loop.
FEEDBACK: by adjusting the feedback amount it's possible to change the decay of the sound. Create short plucked sounds or long ringing strings. In some configurations, you might even get some nice oscillations.
OUTPUT: take the output to the rest of your modular system and start experimenting!
Other information:

Frequency range: sub audio range to roughly 400 Hz
Dimensions: 10HP width, 3U Eurorack standard
3.5mm patch cables for all jacks
16-pin power socket

Demo - Strength KITARO COVER

video upload by ltpstan

"'Strength' is something I have been listening for quite some time. The more I listen, the more I feel the melody and the energy of the piece. It is a very unique piece with very interesting chord progression. My favourite rendition is the Live version from Chicago 1999. The drums beats and the whole piece somehow worked well for my liking.

This is something I have been working on the past few days.

The layout of the track has been completed only. Sounds and editing has a long way to go."
