New Random Source Serge Paperface Coming to SUPERBOOTH22

Follow-up to this post featuring the VC Resonant EQ.

1st Panel:
2x Oscillators Noise/Random
SSG
Dual Processor
Triple Waveshaper
Not sure what that last one on the corner is but it looks like it has a 1/4" output?

2nd Panel:
2xSequencers/Programmer
BiDi Router

Update: two more close-up pics of the oscillator section, a 3rd with a Precision VCO and Dual Universal Slope Generator, and the following:

"Designing the first generation of Serge modules in '72-'73 was a stab in the dark. Today, the redesign of these modules is like opening a door to a new universe. VCOs that track. Dual programmers featuring built-in sequencing and clock.
Silver on enamel panels, yet keeping to the spirit and patch-programmability of the original paperface panels. Glad to announce the first of several 50th anniversary Serge panels !

Oberheim OB-X8 Demo (no talking)

video upload by Paul Schilling

"It is a great honor for me to contribute factory patches to this, an absolute dream machine by Tom Oberheim and the Sequential crew.

Easily one of the best sounding synthesizers I have ever played.

The unit in this video was pre-production, so it had temp knobs, not the Oberheim style knobs of the production units."

Oberheim Matrix 12 vs. Matrix 6 - Sonic Siblings: A Direct Comparison

"Join us while we do a direct comparison of these two classic Oberheim synthesizers. There is often confusion around this product line due to the shared namesake. So, we wanted to clarify some of the differences both in terms of circuit design and sonic character. It is easy to assume that the Matrix 12 is simply a Matrix 6 with double the polyphony, but this is not the case. In fact, the Matrix 6/6R/1000 are quite different than the Matrix 12 and Xpander. In this video, we'll show you why and let you hear the difference!

**The audio is a direct mix of primarily dry signal with a bit of reverb added via an aux buss; no compression or EQ adjustments were made**

***Our Matrix 12 has had a rough past, you'll see many battle scars on the front panel. Rest assured, we have plans to fully restore it to its former glory in the very near future. What out for a video!***

"Just a mad demo working through all the functions of the KS Expander hooked up to an E.M.S. Synthi A with touch Keyboard Sequence connected."

Pittsburgh Modular - Bat Dynamics LPG, A Filter of Crows VCF

video upload by John Schussler

"Pittsburgh Modular is in the process of designing some new synths, and are releasing individual experiments as stand-alone modules. They say these aren't long term catalog items, so if you like the sound you'll want to grab one before they're gone.

The Bat is a low pass gate (LPG), but without vactrols. Most LPGs use vactrols to control the response, but with the disadvantage of being non-adjustable...the vactrol responds how it responds, end of story. The Bat adds an adjustability to the sound that makes it extra flexible, while still maintaining that vactrol-like ring.

The Filter of Crows is a relatively "normal" VCF, but with a unique character that comes from its drive and "stability" controls. Stability in particular gives the circuit the ability to come up with some really interesting distortions and responses you don't hear elsewhere.

Envelope is Zadar, sequence is from Stochastic IG, and VCO is a Dixie II+.

Boomstar Talker

video upload by Studio Electronics

"Instagram AKA: 'From Berlin With Love' by James High (of Modal Electronics)

That 8106 Boomstar Life is spiced up with near excessive variety; at 2:59 where the formant (preferred resonanting frequencies of the vocal tract) sermon is preached, it’s hard not to listen up and get lost in the message.

The filter-drenching locked-to-clock LFO Lektor Party at 1:43, is a clear highlight as well. But it's greasy and 'releasy' throughout.

"This instrument began its life as an early model Octave Plateau Cat synth, model 1853. At some point it was heavily modified. The keyboard was removed. A “Gate Delay” circuit was added (it does not work at this time). A “Ring Modulator” was added — this seems to work with internal sound sources and has external connections as well. It actually sounds nice, IMO. Other connections were added to the rear panel, and existing connections were modified.

Does it work? It can usually make sounds and I have used it over the years, but it is quirky and in dire need of serious attention by a qualified tech. When it does work it has a great analog tone, and the Sub range on the oscillators adds some real depth. The filter has a nice tone to it. The slide switch that selects octaves needs to be replaced.

The original bottom panel is gone, replaced by pieces of Masonite held in place by gaffer’s tape. An LED has been added to the LFO (pretty helpful).

A unique and vintage instrument with an interesting history. Could be semi-restored or further customized."
