Generative Ambient music in Ableton Live (free project file) | generative music for studying
video upload by CNTR RNDM
"Stumbled on this amazing @ANDREW HUANG modular twinkle jam (link below) the other day and it inspired me to try and achieve something similar in Ableton Live. Ableton is really great when it comes to generating and manipulating midi notes. It provides you with all these tools that let you manipulate midi events in so many ways. In fact, you could say that Ableton, at least kind of, is a / is like a modular synthesizer. @Seed to Stage has a really great tutorial on this topic (link below).
So, for this jam, I basically just used three instances of Wavetable (one for the lower notes, one for the mid notes, and one for the higher notes) and a TON of Ableton's midi fx to create and edit midi events, like, randomly. I also used @Ned Rush s probability tool (link below) to modulate note probability over time, you know, just to create some movement. And to top it off, I used the amazing Microtuner to create kind of a microtonal-I'm-a-bit-tipsy kind of vibe.
And the cool thing is, you can download the stock plugin version of the project file for free…have fun with it! Here's the link:

(little sidenote: this generative patch is BY NO MEANS perfect...I should have limited the range of the high notes here and there for example...so please tweak it, improve it, do whatever you like and make it your own!!!)
While we're at it, why don’t you grab my free drums sample pack as well:

Feel free to check my other packs on gumroad as well:

Two DB-01s play "gentle" stereo (no talk)
video upload by Richard DeHove
"With identical machines it's tempting to play them as a stereo pair. Hard panning left and right with different sounds gives an interesting 1960s-style separation, although it can be offputting in headphones without a little stereo field "smoothing". For that I used the Zen delay in tape ping-pong mode and the Boss RV-6 stereo reverb. I was also keen to show the DB-01s playing "nice" lead sounds.
Starts off with both DB-01s on 32-step patterns. I then play the right-side unit in arp mode 1-octave with 90% gate. By not holding the notes down the entire time you allow the underlaying pattern to poke through every now and then which can add variation (nad in this case some percussive effect) depending on how each section is played. The DB-01s percussion sounds also appear to sound almost uniterupted because of the delay, despite playing the arp and overriding the pattern.
The second time around both units are in arp mode, with the left-side unit on a 10% gate. I also switch on the Zen's overdrive. I took down the volume of the overdrive section in the DAW since it adds a big boost. But there are absolutely no effects on the sound other than what you see. The patterns include quite a lot of pitchmod notes, accents and a little filter mod - almost a "Perkons-lite" style. (I'm really looking forward to that machine - even if it is blue. I'm convinced it shares quite a bit of sound-engine design with the DB-01).
You can hear the uneffected "dry" sound at the very end.
0:00 Patterns + 1 arp
1:00 Patterns + 2 arps
2:10 Dry sound

Interview with William Mathewson (WMD) - live transitions in Eurorack modular for live performance
video upload by WMDevices
"Playing a live set is a challenge and when it comes to live electronic music on hardware instruments, the set of challenges become unique. One of our goals here at WMD is to make instruments that are fun to interact with in real time, and get to be played like a traditional instrument. Another goal is to create tools that allow for preparation, making live performance less stressful and more fun.
In this video, Alex talks with William Mathewson, the WM of WMD (William Mathewson Devices), about how he prepares for a live set. We take an inside look at how he uses the WMD Metron, Voltera, and Rossum Assimil8or module to create a unique palette of sounds that moves subtly from one song to the next. William's style requires lots of preparation and for him to write an entire set worth of music at once in a linear fashion, rather than one song at a time, and much different than a totally improvised performance."
Four minutes with the KORG MAXI-KORG 800DV Analog Synthesizer (1975)

The Korg Maxi-Korg 800DV Synthesizer from the year 1975 is one of my favorite analog synthesizers. The 800DV is duophonic with two separate synthesizer sections and different play modes. The legendary traveler filter with low pass and high pass and the powerful VCOs + Sub Osc sounds phat and dark.
Here can you find the full Maxi-Korg playlist with a lot single sound demos, synth comparisions and one synth demo tracks. Enjoy.

Kind of interesting that the SN formats differ. 30257 has KM87 after it and OK01556 has KM88. Anyone know what they mean?
