Synthesis Technology E560 Deflector Shield - The Lost Demos

video upload by John L Rice

"Index:
0:00 Year 2010 - First test of the new E560 featuring music by Carbon111
2:42 Year 2013 - Subtle demo of the E560 in frequency shifter mode
5:24 End

This video happened because I was digging through some old hard drives and found a few things I had lost track of for years!

The first part of this is a video I had posted to YouTube back in 2010, but out of frustration dealing with YT copyright claims and trying to keep my channel commercial free, I deleted it. The main problem came because I used part of a track by my friend James Maier, AKA Carbon111, and he was totally fine with my use (thanks James! :-), but dealing with YouTube check bots at the time wasn't so easy. This was my first test of the new at the time E560 module and it is also my very first eurorack video! Check out James's site for lots of interesting synthesizer info and links where you can buy his music! 👌
http://carbon111.com/

Modules used in part 1:
Synth Tech E560 Deflector Shield
Doepfer A-147 VCLFO and A-174 Voltage Inverter
Malekko 8NU8R

Part two came about because around three years later there was a discussion on the MuffWigger synth forum (now renamed as ModWiggler) about frequency shifters and how most demos tended to be of the more extreme effects they can create but not many show the subtle uses. I was asked about my missing demo from part 1 here and I couldn't find it at the time so I did a new audio only demo and posted it to my Soundcloud page. I just have a free Soundcloud account and my storage space is limited so I occasionally delete old tracks to make room for new ones. Since I decided to repost the original video, I decided to include the later noodles demo as a "bonus track".

Modules used in part 2:
Synth Tech E560 Deflector Shield and E355 Morphing Dual LFO

Thanks for watching, rating, and commenting, I appreciate you all! 🤗"

FORMANTIC (Voltage controlled formant filter for eurorack)

video upload by Noise Lab Sweden

"Here's Formant - our brand-new analog formant filter! With a joystick to control the dual 12dB bandpass filters, an audio path selector for the 24dB lowpass filter, a master cutoff knob and four CV inputs, you are all set for some serious sound shaping! Excellent for creating vowel-like sounds and when you want to “carve out” specific bands of frequencies. Self-oscillating at full resonance. Dual ins and outs. This filter really speaks for itself!
For more information about this module and our other products, please visit https://www.noiselab.se"

FORMANTIC IS HERE!
Our brand-new analogue filter offers a fresh take on sound shaping and will make an excellent addition to your subtractive synthesis toolset.

With two peak filters (bandpass) and a 24 dB lowpass filter at your disposal, you can carve out specific frequencies to mimic voice-like sounds (vowels) or just turn any bass sound into something gnarly and wicked! Thanks to its joystick and master cutoff knob, you also get a better tactile control over your sound which is great for live performances.

You can even make it sing in tune because all three filters can self-oscillate at full resonance and produce three perfect sine waves, all controllable via external CV. Check out all the details and video below. Keep on patching!

1979 DSS Dual Sequential Switch

1979 DSS Dual Sequential Switch from Grayscale / 1979 on Vimeo.

Preview of the 1979 DSS (Dual Sequential Switch) for Buchla format modular synthesizer systems. Visit https://1979.ws/dss for more info.

The standard configuration has audio I/O jacks on the top and banana I/O jacks on the bottom. Custom configurations with all audio or all banana jacks can be supplied, please send an email with a request after placing your preorder. Custom builds are available on a limited basis.

The DSS is intended as a companion for the Buchla 245/246 sequencers or other "quad" modules in the Buchla world such as the 281 and 292.

The main I/O is bidirectional, meaning that the module works as a 4:1 multiplexer or a 1:4 demultiplexer. Patch up to four signal sources to the four I/O inputs (A-D) and they will be routed to the common output jack (Z). Alternately, patch one signal source to the common input jack (Z) and it will be redistributed to the four outputs (A-D).

Every aspect of the switching schema is exposed on the front panel, and every parameter can be modified with external CV, making this one of the most fully-featured sequential switches available. Each section has its own independent sequence length (from 1 to 4 steps). The Step Change output (SC) generates a trigger whenever the sequence length is changed, telegraphing local local state changes to external modules. Clocked switching can advance forwards, backwards, forwards then backwards (pendulum), or randomly.

Tech Specs
Two 4:1 or 1:4 sequential switches for audio or CV
Voltage control of all parameters
VC stage addressing via pulse or variable CV inputs
Variable sequence length (1-4 steps)
Variable switching mode (forward, reverse, pendulum, random
Extensive pulse I/O for synchronicity with external modules
Sync output tracks changes to sequence length

1979 AO SVG

1979 AO SVG from Grayscale / 1979 on Vimeo.

1979 AO and SVG (based on Plaits and Marbles by Mutable Instruments). Visit https://1979.ws for more info.

Not sure when this was released. I'm only finding one previous post with The Galaxy Electric featuring one in March of 2020. Some info and a pic for the archives:

Digital oscillator with envelope and VCA/LPG

The Algorithmic Oscillator is a Buchla-format VCO based on Plaits by Mutable Instruments. The successor to the 1979 DAO, the AO has more knobs, more parameters, and more I/O than the DAO plus new features not present on Plaits. With an internal envelope generator and a simulated LPG with adjustable vactrol response, the AO is an ideal standalone voice module for small Buchla systems.

Bad Gear - Tempest

video upload by AudioPilz

"Welcome to Bad Gear, the show about the world's most hated audio tools. Today we are going to talk about the DSI Tempest Analog Drum Machine. Is this hybrid drum machine created by two of the most influential figures in music technology, Dave Smith (creator of the Prophet 5 and important contributor to the midi standard) and Roger Linn (father of the Akai MPC and all that fancy 80s drum machines), the gold standard for hardware-based music production or did the two legends aim too high?

Thanks to my neighbor Paul for lending me his Tempest, check out his Insta:

"Beauty of Decay" - Dub Techno Patch - 110bpm - VCV Rack 2

video upload by Electronisounds Audio

"Learning and experimenting with VCV Rack 2 (free) on desktop.
There are different modules than in miRack on iPad, and it takes some getting used to, etc...

I ended up pushing the CPU waaaaaay too hard even before feeling 'finished' with the patch, and it crashed VCV Rack when I tried to use the screen recorder and it makes a glitchy, unwatchable screen recording. I called it 'done' and recorded what I could to audio. Lesson learned and I hope to do a live stream with VCV Rack in the near future.

I used an AI Art software called 'MidJourney' to create all of the "Beauty of Decay" style art pieces."
