Synthstrom Deluge, Elektron Analog Keys, Minilogue XD Jam

video upload by Easy Tiger

"In this Jam I'm trying to take advantage of the analog sweetness of the Analog Keys and the Minilogue XD. I'm sending MIDI from the Deluge to the two synths. They're both receiving pretty much the same sequences. I only shifted the some octaves and deleted some notes.

There are never more than to different notes being played at the same time but thanks to some long release times and ridiculous amounts of reverb and delay they turn into some pretty nice chords I think."

Korg Wavestate Live Jam - Stargazers Trail

video upload by Waveformer

"This is an upbeat improvised live jam om the Korg Wavestate synthesizer, based on a single custom Wavestate patch with four layers used as individual parts.

The patch is part of an upcoming soundbank for the Wavestate. My two other soundbanks can be found here:

https://waveformer.gumroad.com

Wavestate performance mod knobs:
Knob 1: Layer A (arp melody) Octave
Knob 2: Layer B (arp bass) Octave
Knob 3: Layer C (pad) Octave
Knob 4: Layer D (arp fx) Octave
Knob 5: Layer A (arp melody) Amp Level
Knob 6: Layer B (arp bass) Amp Level
Knob 7: Layer C (pad) Amp Level
Knob 8: Layer D (arp fx) Amp Level

Joystick X sets the sample bit rate for the Layer C (Pad) Decimator.
Joystick Y sets the sample frequency for the Layer C (Pad) Decimator, and some filter modulation to the right.
ModWheel sets Filter Cutoff for Layer A (Arp) and B (Bass).

The audio is recorded to SD card on a Zoom R16 mixer/recorder and normalized in Audacity. Video is recorded on a Canon EOS M50 mk2 with the included EF-M 15-45mm lens. Audio and video is synchronized in DaVinci Resolve 18 (free version)."

Producing Backwards with Tiptop Audio & Buchla

"A test of Tiptop Audio / Buchla Quad Lopass Gate Model 292t turns into a strange backwards production session utilizing the whole 200t system as well as Tiptop's new True Stereo Effects bundle for Z-DSP, many other Z-DSP FX and more!!!"

Buchla 259 | Episode 02 | Playing the Oscillators

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"In episode 01 I started with the Main/Principal oscillator. But a complex oscillator also has a modulation oscillator. In episode 02 I am going to focus on the 'dual oscillator' side, which could be useful for anyone with two VCO's in a case. The original title was 'surfing the oscillators' because it's inspired by a @vgermuse Todd Barton live improvisation from 2012 where he actually played the 259 on instinct, just fiddling knobs. Part one of the video is music from the actual recording: https://soundcloud.com/user7621213/bu...

Playing the oscillators by hand is possibly the most fun and gratifying experience with your modular. Just have a big reverb nearby! So I hope you have FM inputs to play with. I am saving the modulation/FM bus for episode 03 and I may finish the series with a 'build your own complex oscillator with anything you can find'. In this episode I am also revisiting the Furthrrrr Generator with the 'strong zero' core. I mentioned that the digital core may not be the best choice if you're looking for an analog 259 experience but this does not mean it's bad. It's quite the opposite.

We'll stay in complex territory this month. Next up will be a Cosmotronic Vortex video because all the material I shot for this series deserves a separate item. If all goes well, I'll have a Cs-L video planned and finally a Lubadh 'reel life' episode with 2.0 firmware. So plenty to study and hopefully something to look forward to."

CASPERxBASTL - AIKIDO

video upload by Bastl Instruments

"Aikido: the Japanese martial art of nonviolent self-defense, of redirecting your opponent’s momentum and using it against them, and mixing VCA signals for creative and nuanced performance with Eurorack modular synths.

Bastl Instruments have been hard at work in the dojo with our favorite sparring partner, Casper Electronics, and now emerge with a new Eurorack module demonstrating our newly developed techniques in the ancient art of the Voltage-Controlled Amplifier: Aikido is a 4-channel performative VCA mixer with flexible submix routing and two styles of integrated envelope followers — and, natural element, a whole heap more…

The Way of the Single Palm

Neatly compact, Aikido is a perfect tool for single-hand operation: independently mute each channel using stealthy, clickless mutes, and flex your sound using a single finger to control crossfader action, smoothly adjusting signal input strengths up to +6dB volume gain.

A holistic discipline, students of Bastl Aikido will develop their mix prowess by mastering the pulse of CV, via premium attenuverters on the CV input channels; stealthily adjust the strength of the CV's parameter automation in true (positive) or inverted (negative) directions, allowing for deceptively simple or richly complex variations in sound, controlling all by a gentle twist of the wrist.

Dynamic Style: the Art of Compression

Grappling with both audio and VCA signals is simple even for beginners with Aikido: take your skills to the next degree with Aikido's dual spectral analysis and envelope-following techniques!

The envelope follower found in other Bastl/Casper modules, such as the Ikarie dual-peak filter, makes a repeat appearance, allowing you to route audio signals into the chain to affect overall output volume and strength, or take the internal audio's envelope and patch it out to impact the behavior of your other modules.

Spectral Processing joins the fray, allowing you to take a magnifying glass to the high, mid, or low frequencies in your mix. Flick between frequency isolation for enhancement, de-essing, compression, even parallel side-chaining audio (can we get a "hai—ya"!?) that ascends Aikido well above the typical territory of Eurorack mixers.

No-one Fights Alone

Need more than 4 channels of this wizardry? Stack two Aikido modules together with jumper cables to bring the total to 8 channels. Or, take the mix output of Aikido and patch it through to your Bastl Buddy with the same jumper wires, opening up possibilities of parallel processing and much more. Switches on the back of the module allow users to customize the mute functionality between Pre- or Post- VCA settings.

Where would we all be without feedback play? Self-patch Aikido's outputs back into the inputs to get that BVVRRR goodness, or take advantage of the cascading internal routing to play with the mixed audio signals, layering and bulking your sound, or direct specific channels to FX units.

Discipline in training brings rewards, and the strength of the alliance between Bastl & Casper has yielded some of our best playability techniques to date. Aikido - your one-stop control shop for Eurorack in just 11hp."
