Why to buy the most famous drum machine of all time

video upload by Alex Ball

"Like most people, I've always wanted to own an original Roland TR-808 but it's always been the wrong price or the wrong time or both. Earlier this year my time finally came.

I wanted to make a video showing why it's still a very relevant and useful instrument in a modern studio and that it's not just purely about nostalgia, whilst that obviously plays a part!

"Previous owner mentions it was serviced and recapped. We noticed the glass on the screen appears to be a little loose but this does not effect operation. Otherwise it's tested and fully functional. Screen is bright and easy to read. This one has Curtis CEM 3389 which would make it a Rev A (as opposed to a later Rev B version with Curtis CEM 3387 chips). Some say the Rev A is the better sounding version. Classic Waldorf rack synthesizer."

"The German-made Hartmann Neuron is a polyphonic synthesizer that broke new ground using a new form of synthesis and sound-modeling they say was based on technology found in neural networks. What the Neuron actually does is it analyzes audio files (samples) and creates digital computer models of these sounds which can then be re-synthesized and processed using the extensive amount of on-board data-wheels and joysticks with control of more 'musical' sonic aspects such as instrument shape, size and acoustic behavior. The joysticks allow for real-time tweaking of up to three parameters at once - 3D modeling in a true 5.1 surround sound environment."

"The synth was brought back to 100% operating condition. The only issue at the time and which still exists is a couple of segments of the display not illuminating, however it is still fully legible."

"Fully functional and excellent sounding 1980s Sequential Circuits Prelude synthesizer. I have used this synth on many records and it has some great sounds. Surprisingly versatile with the built in equalizer and the ability to play multiple patches at once by pressing the different patch selection buttons at the same time.

A few switch caps missing but in otherwise good condition."

MAM MB33 | Analog 303 bassline synthesizer (made in Germany!)

"This is the new addition to my dawless setup, I really needed a 303 to make some acid basslines. VSTs out there didn't satisfy my taste, once I tried this with my hands I fell in love!"

One of my favorite tracks from the german group Rammstein
'Ich Will' from the album 'Mutter' (2001)
produced by Rammstein

Featured the E-MU Emax (1986) Sampling Synthesizer (1986)

This cover song series contains my own recreations of my favourite songs from the last 50 years. The original music from which I take inspiration belong to their respective owners. I recreate tracks only for personal passion and to pay homage to these tracks.
My intention is not to create covers that sound exactly like the original (if you want to hear identical sounds, please listen the original). It's more of an inspiration with my sounds from the old synthesizers from the past and of course the great appreciation for the original performers and producers."
