SUPERBOOTH 2024: XOR Electronics - Nerdseq Expanders

video upload by sonicstate

"At Superbooth 2024, Thomas from XOR Electronics showcased their new expanders for the NerdSeq sequencer. The dual-core expander features a two times four voice oscillator with 32 waveforms that can be independently mixed, allowing for multi-octave chords to be played in a paraphonic way. Integrated into the NerdSeq, the expander also includes eight LFOs for manipulating different parameters within the waveform, as well as a stereo mode with two audio outputs for creating a rich stereo field.

In addition to the dual-core expander, XOR Electronics introduced a small add-on module for the TipTop Art System, enabling polyphonic sequencing with up to six columns of notes. This module, compatible with the Art protocol, is a cost-effective solution for integrating polyphonic sequencing into the Art system. With both products set to be available in the summer, these expanders offer expanded capabilities for electronic musicians seeking new ways to explore and experiment with their sound. For more information on the dual-core expander and the add-on module for the TipTop Art System, visit the XOR Electronics website."

SUPERBOOTH 2024: Kiviak - WoFi

video upload by sonicstate

"At Superbooth 2024, Sonic State had the chance to chat with Thibault from Kiviak Instruments about their newly released *WoFi*. This cute sampler is a modern take on old keyboards from the 80s, offering a compact form factor with a range of modern features. The *WoFi *is battery-powered, equipped with a microphone for sound sampling, and a speaker for standalone use. However, its extensive connectivity options, including audio input/output, MIDI, CV/Gate, synchronization, and USB, make it a versatile tool for music production.

WoFi's interface allows for easy sound manipulation, with emulations of different machines for unique tonal qualities. Users can experiment with pitch, time stretch, and effects to create dynamic sounds. The machine also features a sequencer for note and parameter sequencing, as well as a compose mode for generating sequences on the fly. Additionally, the WoFi's built-in Wi-Fi chipset enables seamless backup, sharing, and firmware updates through the MyWofi platform."

SUPERBOOTH 2024: Erica Synths - ResonantEQ - Nightverb

video upload by sonicstate

"At Superbooth 2024 we met up once again with Girts from *Erica Synths, *who gave us a glimpse of some new things, namely *ResonantEQ*, a Eurorack module which first appeared six years ago, but is now revitalised, and *Nightverb*, a desktop reverb unit.

ResonantEQ is intended to inject some new blood into the Eurorack ecosystem. It is an hybrid analogue and digital module, with an analogue resonant eq with digital control over the parameters, and CV control over each band allowing for a wide range of possible applications, including turning the EQ into a multimode filter.

*Nightverb, *developed in collaboration with Netherlands-based 112dB, has a custom algorithm intended to avoid emulating any classic reverbs but instead produce a reverb with its own character and fully hands-on control.

Nightverb Available: June 2024. Price: 450 Euros

ResonantEQ Available: soon. Price: Around 300 Euro"

SUPERBOOTH 2024: Ohmforce - Ohmicide Module

video upload by sonicstate

"At Superbooth 2024, Ardon from Ohmforce showcased their new Eurorack module, the *Ohmicide*, a physical incarnation of their popular distortion plug-in. The module features the 111 types of distortion from the plug-in, allowing users to access all the familiar distortion options in a hardware format. With a step sequencer for performance mode, the Ohmicide is designed for live playability and experimentation. Priced at $490, the module is now available for purchase.

Ohmforce also previewed their other upcoming modules, including the *Fromager*, a resonant low-pass filter with distortion, the *Hematohm*, a frequency shifter with delay and envelope follower, and the *Rohmble*, a rumble effect with four tap delays and multiple effects. These prototypes are still in development, with release dates to be announced based on user feedback and interest. For more information on OhmForce products, visit their website for updates.

SUPERBOOTH 2024: Moog - Spectravox

video upload by sonicstate

"At Superbooth 2024 we met with Chris from Moog who gave us a look at their new Spectravox*. Originating from the Moogfest workshop in 2019, *Spectravox *is a semi-modular analog spectral processor and vocoder that offers dynamic sound sculpting capabilities through its 10-band filter bank, based on the *Moog 907 filterbank from the 60s, adjustable resonance, and extensive integration features. It's a tool for creating lively drones and colorful tonal sweeps, and can be used as a standalone unit or integrated with other instruments and sound sources.

Watch to the end of the video for a surprise appearance from *Jamie Lidell*, who has had his hands on a *Spectravox *for quite a while, and he tells us about his experiences with this box of tricks.

SUPERBOOTH 2024: Arturia - Polybrute 12

video upload by sonicstate

"At Superbooth 2024, we met up with Sebastien from Arturia unveiled the new flagship polyphonic analog synth, the Polybrute 12*. With 12 voices and a new MPE-capable polyphonic aftertouch keybed designed specifically by *Arturia*, the *Polybrute 12 *is noticably larger than the original, and is a major upgrade offering an enhanced range of sound and modulation possibilities. Sebastian emphasized the expressive nature of the instrument, demonstrating the *Full Touch mode which senses the key travel from the top to the bottom of the keypress. Original *Polybrut*e features like morphing between patches and the Morphe XYZ controller and the lovely wooden ribbon controller are all present and correct. The Arturia-built Keybed must be the standout feature, however, bringing extreme expressivity to your playing.

The Polybrute 12's enhanced capabilities over the original Polybrute include larger unisons, ideal for creating layered soundscapes, and innovative touch envelope modes that allow for dynamic and precise control over each note.

SUPERBOOTH 2024: Korg Berlin - Acoustic Synthesis Phase 8

video upload by sonicstate

"At Superbooth 2024 we met up with Lukas from Korg Berlin who gave us a lovely outdoor look at a prototype synth, *Acoustic Synthesis Phase 8*, their latest attempt to create an instrument that sits between the worlds of acoustic and electronic instruments.

At the heart of ASP-8 are several individual resonators that form the basis of the sound of the instrument, and these work with the capacitive pickup which works like a condenser microphone. Not only can you interact with the resonators physically, you can interact electronically through the synthesizer itself. There's an onboard 8-step sequencer that can trigger and change the settings of the resonators as you go.

There are two basic playing modes, hammer mode for short, plucky sounds, and each resonator gets independent tone and time controls, where time acts like a basic decay envelope. In wave mode, the time controls switch to affecting the attack time, which leads to more pad-like, slow soundscapes. Lukas explained this will probably be the last prototype before this instrument is released in its final form, which Korg Berlin hope will happen at Superbooth 2025.
