Today we’re diving into the underrated hidden gem that is the AKAI XR10. If you’re chasing the sound of Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly, Ministry, Throbbing Gristle, or KMFDM, this one’s for you. I’m putting the XR10 to the test to see if it can still deliver that industrial sound. It’s a drum machine most people have forgotten about, but honestly, it should be used way more!

Everything here was mixed on my modded 70s analog console, with performances recorded to analog tape. Warm, dense, and inviting tones emerge – transients softened, harmonics glued, time moving a little slower.

"This piece was created using the ‪@NovationTV‬ Novation Circuit and a tape loop.
It is a minimal dub composition built from restrained synth and rhythm loops, layered with delay-soaked, lo-fi piano textures.

On the Novation Circuit, looped patterns are played back while synth pads are performed live on the pads. The output is processed with reverb using the ‪@strymon‬ blueSky.

The tape loop contains a recorded piano performance. The sound is brought in and out by manually adjusting the tape player’s volume. Through the ‪@ChaseBlissAudio‬ MOOD MKII, delay is applied while micro-loop textures are generated, adding movement and depth."

"Happy Holidays! Here's a little wintery piano improvisation over the top one of the patches I've been making the last couple of days with the gorgeous new Cyma Forma ALT synthesizer.

ALT is a very special synth. The sound is gorgeous, the driven filters sing, the pin matrix and quantizable oscillators are amazing for instantly coming up with ever changing movement and melodies, and the delay is exactly the way I like it; when you push the delay times to longer settings, it's full of characterful crunch and noise. Cyma Forma have done a spectacular job with this inspiring and unique synth and I'm super excited to have it in my studio.

"2nd video with the Arturia Minifreak hybrid (digital/analog) synth, with a OneSynthOnly jam (after the first video where I used 5 instances of the Minifreak in multi-track: • Cinefreak 📽️ (Arturia Minifreak // Conduct... 😉)

The jam starts with me recording in step mode a sequence.
Then the sequence is being played with me tweaking some parameters like adding delay, fading-in the second oscillator (superwave), modulating the analog filter etc.
In the second half of the video, I switched to the mode where I can transpose in real-time the sequence recorded (i.e. you can no longer play over the sequence, when you press on a key, it transposes the whole sequence to this key). What is really cool is that Arturia added the Scale feature which I really love, thus making it possible to transpose within a defined scale like on the Keystep Pro! 🤩"
