"Astronauter" - on Yamaha HE-8
YouTube via organfairy
"Like astronauts /
just like astronauts /
we have a rendez-vous /
every night at 5 PM /
you in your Fiat Uno /
and me in my Citroën"
This Danish song by Troels Trier and Rebecca Brüel is about two people who have never met face to face. But they pass each other every night in the darkness on the highway - just like astronauts in their space ships.
I play it on the Yamaha HE-8 organ with a little help from the Roland synthesizer and Korg drum machine.
I had just bought a little camera at a jumble sale and I wanted to try out its capabilities. So I went out in the early evening and got some sunset pictures that I thought was usefull to go with this song.
And at the end I show the results of a classical photographical experiment I did many years ago: Leaving a camera with an open lens pointing upwards on a starry night."

New Tom Oberheim SEM - First Samples
via WD on the AH list:
"Tinkering a bit this afternoon, I threw together a quick a demo, comparing the new and original SEMs. I created six different patches, which I programmed on both SEMs. Panning each SEM hard in opposite directions, I placed the new SEM on the left channel and the original SEM on the right. Percussion is Apple Ultrabeat. All other sounds are SEM. The mix is completely dry with no effects or EQing.
Here is a link that should open a player window
If the link does not work, then you can hear it on my webpage
The piece is titled, "2009 10 01 Alpha 01." [It's the first track in my playlist on the right.]
WD
P.S. Because my original SEM is not patched-out, I did not sync LFOs to MIDI; so, any variation in sync between the two SEMs is due to my inability to fine-tune them by hand. So, things like PWM and filter modulation will be out of sync between the two SEMs. Nonetheless, the LFOs are oscillating at nearly the same frequencies, thereby still giving a good sense of the similarities/differences of the two."

Folktek Arts New Time Scape

"The New Time Scape is designed for analog style delay, thousands of variations for effecting incoming sound and extreme sample fuqwithing. This work has automated patchable effects which amongst many other things can be made to process sample timing, allowing you to cipher through parts of a sample as it repeats or toggle back and fourth between any variation of ring mod or compression for example."

Natural M2 VOC - Analog Natural Vocoder

"The first Natural sounding Vocoder is yet to come... Vocoders always have been in demand for their ability to transform the human voice into all sorts of alien sounding voices. The original idea behind the musical application of Vocoders is to give the articulation and emotion of the human voice to a musical instrument, while maintaining its instrumental quality. In short: make the instrument sing!" Click the link above for more.

Handmade Music Austin - DIY music workshops
YouTube via EA78751
"Handmade Music Austin - a new series of DIY music workshops for 2009-2010 presented by Church of the Friendly Ghost.
In a workshop setting, we'll present a newly-designed series of miniature electronic instruments, called Andromeda Space Rockers. No bigger than a credit card, these projects are designed for DIY'ers like you. They can be built in a couple of hours to make a working drum machine, bass generator, or micro-synthesizer. These fun little instruments love to jam together, and they do it by forming a wireless network to keep the rhythm!
Of course, there will be an open jam / performance once the instruments are built.
Workshop dates 2009-2010 October 18 November 15 December 20 January 17 February 28 March 14 April 18
Registration is $45 and includes materials
