(arches) tactile universal interface Kickstarter

soundmachines (arches) tactile universal interface is now on Kickstarter. Click through for full details. Additional demo videos further below.

"Blending inspiration, power and ease of use, we created the perfect evolution of the concept of tactile controller. Built on the foundation of our first class touch interfaces (LS1lightstrip and LP1lightplane), found today on thousands of eurorack systems around the world, we designed a beautiful work of art and technology.

(arches) put a never seen before set of controllers at your fingertips. Sliders, lightstrips (with rec/loop capabilities), lightplanes/thumbpads with z-axis sensitivity and a row of pressure sensitive buttons. Behind those state of the art touch controllers lies a high-speed microcontroller that joins the elements to create keyboards, sequencers, arpeggiators and, finally, your perfect performance setup.

Soundmachines know-how in capacitive touch control surface is unparalleled in eurorack. With thousands of LS1lightstrips and LP1lightplanes in the market, is the name to consider when talking about reliable, simple and flawless touch CV generators/recorders. Following customer’s requests and nurturing interest for integrated, easy to use and alternative control interfaces, we came up with a series of ideas that adapted our robust technology to earlier concepts developed by the fathers of the modular synthesizers. The key target was the design and implementation of a carefully conceived product with the maximum attention to usability, highest possible degree of functionalities and an affordable pricing."

Soundmachines universal tactile interface is alive!
(arches) demo #2
A more complex demo using the arches as the centerpiece of an improvisation. Left part is used as a position sensitive keyboard that drives one of the Modulor114 oscillators and the cutoff of the other oscillator (driven by a TuringMachine and the internal M114 quantizer). The second lightstrip opens the drum VCA, the third drives the bitcrusher that shreds a rhythmic pattern generated with a filter. The last lightstrip is used as a quantized controller that controls an SD1simpledrum in synth mode with a string patch bathed in the SD1 internal reverb....
3. (arches) prototype demo 3
(arches) demo #3
A dual voice, dual machines, demo (just the Modulör114 as sound source). Lefthand drives the main voice (saw wave and vcf) and three lightstrips used as: #2:pitch(quantized) to the second VCO, #3: triangle waveshaping and #4: triangle LFO amount to voice1 VCA. Internal Modulör114 effect used for the delay.
4. (arches) prototype demo 4
Left pad gate pings the filter of the Modulör114 with a short envelope and the Y axes modifies the filter freq. Right pad plays a whole tones scale on the X and changes the freq of the second VCO used as an LFO 9 on the X axis. The second lightstrip on the right side modulates the PWM of VCO1.
On the ((arches)) thumbpads are always available at outputs (x,y and pressure). You can choose individually to use a gate output or not.
5. (arches) prototype demo 5
Two keyboards drive two voices of the Modulör114. Left keyboard (KB3) drives the first VCO and sets the pwm with the slider position. Left thumbpad drives the VCF of the second VCO that is driven by the upper buttons keyboard (KB1).
6. (arches) prototype demo 6
In this ambient/melodic oriented demo, the (arches) controls three voices coming from two Modulör114 synths, a shaped triangle for the "solo" part, a composed heavily pwm'd bass and a saw/sub arpeggio. Each of those parts are controlled in timbre by some features of the (arches). Enjoy.

Upcoming Workshops From Noisecollective

via Noisecollective

"We at Noisecollective (the cultural association behind Torino Synth Meeting and the new SOUNDMIT) are pleased to announce two new appointments in Mach and April. Two workshops, the first about modular synthesis with the great DAVIDE MANCINI of Soundmachines, the second, a Mastering in the box workshop with Gianni Vallino"

Sasame Yuki - A modular improvisation on the MODULOR114 synthesizer.

Published on Dec 19, 2016 Davide Mancini

"A short improvisation on my MODULOR114 synth based on a quantizer generated arpeggio. The VCO2 in LFO mode enters the S&H and, through an attenuator and the quantizer, determines the pitch of the VCO1. The clock drives the S&H and the GATE of the envelope. The starting sound is a rectangular wave that gets modulated (you can hear it when I start to turn teh first knob) on the PWM by the envelope. Soon I substitute the squarewave with the triangular, shortening the attack and finally adding resonance for a more percussive quality of the sound. Toward the end everything gets slowed down, the square returns and the echo gets intrusive...
A small nod to the Master Jun'ichiro Tanizaki."

Alessandro Cortini "Everything ends here" on the MODULÖR114

Published on Nov 15, 2016 Davide Mancini

"A rendition of this simple and beatiful piece of music made entirely with my MODULÖR114 eurorack synthesizer. With just a little help from a 4 steps DIY stepsequencer. Apart from the pleasure of playing (not perfectly...) such nice music, this video shows how you can create three different melodic lines and independent sounds with just our synthesizer. A detailed 'making of' video will follow."

soundmachines NS1 NANOSYNTH - 1st Modular Synth in the Arduino Store

According to Davide Mancini of soundmachines, the NS1nanosynth is the first modular synth for sale in the Arduino Store. Interesting little bit of synth history. If you search for synth in the Arduino Store you only get the NS1 and Ray Wilson's Make: Analog Synthesizers. A search for synthesizers only brings up the book. It's kind of interesting when you consider how many Arduino based synths and sound machines are out there.

"The NS1nanosynth synthesizer is tiny 220x85mm analog modular synthesizer coupled with an Arduino Micro platform.

NS1nanosynth is a good compromise between complexity and usability. It's a Maker synth, totally hackable and customazable yet a good entry level device, and on a budget."
