Patch Notes: Finlay Shakespeare

video upload by FACTmagazine

"Finlay Shakespeare is an artist that operates in two worlds of electronic music. As the founder of Future Sound Systems, Shakespeare engineers Eurorack modules (including a series based on Chris Carter’s device, The Gristleizer) and standalone synths such as the Brunswick. As an artist, he makes gritty, ’80s-leaning synth pop that sits somewhere between Factory Floor and Depeche Mode.

On this Patch Notes session, the Bristol-based artist performs live with an array of vintage and analog gear, including an ARP 2600. Shakespeare’s two recent albums for Editions Mego, 2019’s Domestic Economy and 2020’s Solemnities, are available now. Find more music by Shakespeare at Bandcamp.

From Brunswick to Portland with Future Sound Systems

Published on Apr 3, 2019 DivKidVideo

"BONUS VIDEO BELOW // It's always a total pleasure to get to chat to Finlay from Future Sound Systems and over the past year I've gotten to know the latest FSS team member Jamie too. Jamie has a pretty face (wait for the note in the video) so was asked to stop pulling focus and turn away from the camera a little. Silliness aside ... I got the chance to sit down and check out the new Portland patchable, eurorack compatible / mountable drum machine that followed on from Brunswick. So we talk about background and products and generally had a laugh.

If you'd like to look at the manufacturing of Eurorack modules, desktop synths and drum machines as well as hear an extension of this main interview where we discuss new products and further ideas then check out the bonus video on Patreon here - https://www.patreon.com/posts/25816927 - by doing so you're actively supporting both exclusive content for patrons and further public content. Thank you! :)"

Future Sound Systems Portland Percussion Synthesizer

via @FutureSndSystem

"Here it is, in all its glory.
Portland, the first percussion synthesizer from FSS.
Come jam with it at @MachinaBris #TOMORROW!"

The Portland percussion synthesizer has been designed as a drum complement to the Brunswick synthesizer. Like the Brunswick, Portland has been designed with affordability and flexibility in mind, allowing for the ultimate performance from relatively basic electronics. Portland is also presented as a "sandbox" for percussion and drum synthesis, giving several different analogue sound generation and shaping elements in a patchable unit. The elements are normalled together on the patchbay, allowing for minimal patching to arrive at a kit of drum sounds, but this normalling can be overridden for more complex drum sound synthesis.

Future Sound Systems Brunswick synthesizer (BEEF) DIY synth voice // Synthfest 2018

Published on Oct 16, 2018 DivKidVideo

"Here's the new Brunswick DIY synthesizer from Future Sound Systems, soon to available through www.thonk.co.uk . It's got that lovely fizzy fading sound as the VCA is close to fading out entirely and the filter does a lovely weird sync effect like a harmonic/pitch locking when it's pushed. A really beefy (actually created for BEEF http://www.beefbristol.org Bristol Experimental and Expanded Film) little unit. This was Synthfest 2018 held by Sound on Sound magazine in the Octagon, Sheffield."

New Future Sound Systems Brunswick DIY Synth

Synthfest 2018 - Future Sound Systems Brunswick DIY Synth

Published on Oct 9, 2018 sonicstate

"The Brunswick synthesizer from Future Sound Systems presents a single VCO, two-pole multi-mode VCF, dirty VCA and basic LFO and envelope sections. A 24-point patchbay allows for external voltage control over VCO pitch and envelope gate, as well as a slew of other inputs and outputs from 3.5mm mono jacks."

via Future Sound Systems

"The Brunswick synthesizer from Future Sound Systems was originally commissioned by BEEF in 2018 as a workshop kit synth. Whilst designed as an affordable, bare-bones synth voice, the Brunswick presents a single VCO, two-pole multi-mode VCF, dirty VCA and basic LFO and envelope sections. A 24-point patchbay allows for external voltage control over VCO pitch and envelope gate, as well as a slew of other inputs and outputs from 3.5mm mono jacks.

FSS is pleased to announce a wider release of the Brunswick kit through Thonk, where kits will be available at the price of £99 from 19th October 2018 onwards. Very limited stock of pre-built units can be ordered below, shipping direct from FSS HQ (batteries not included).

Price: £225.00 (incl. 20% VAT) + shipping
