flight of harmony Infernal Noise Machine (INM-E) Eurorack Module on Kickstarter

First announced in July, and featured in a few posts, flight of harmony's Infernal Noise Machine (INM-E) Eurorack Module is now on Kickstarter.

The original Infernal Noise Machine was in desktop form (pictured below) and has been featured here on MATRIXSYNTH over the years. You can see the prototype here. Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails had one as seen here.

The following is some info pulled from the Kickstarter (be sure to click through for more):

"The Infernal Noise Machine is actually the first device ever created at f(h), back in 2007. Designed as a standalone, or "desktop " device. It was later released in multiple limited-run batches over the years, with all available units sold out during preorder each time."

"What is it?

The Infernal Noise Machine is a sound synthesizer, not a music synthesizer.

It was designed towards the creation of noise, sound effects, and for the general field of sound design. Having said that, the INM can create a full range of “musical” tones and sound, but that was not the primary goal. It can be used completely independently, but is intended for use with external control voltage (CV) sources to affect or modulate various parameters, which is where the INM truly comes alive.

So what can you do with it? Incidental sounds and ambiances, unholy caterwauling, soundscapes from melancholy to manic, even percussion and traditional musical sounds. The Infernal Noise Machine is particularly effective for making drones that evolve with time, with no external sources required. The internal architecture allows for a wide range of self-evolving, beat-frequency style tonal variations over an infinite range of rates. There is really no simple way to describe what the INM can do – you have to find out for yourself. This is a unique device. It requires a bit of time and patience to get a feel for how it works, but it is worth the effort."

"The new Infernal Noise Machine has the same sound, features, and potential as the original, but has been completely redesigned and refined. Each format brings its own needs and possibilities, so the system has been expanded to allow even more utility than the original, while keeping it as compact as feasible without impacting the philosophy behind the design."

What is the Infernal Noise Machine?

THE INM IS NOT A MUSIC SYNTHESIZER

The Infernal Noise Machine was designed towards the creation of noise, sound effects, and for the general field of sound design. Having said that, the INM can create “musical” tones and sound – and quite a few of them – but that was not the goal. It is semi-modular, which means part of the signal path is hard-wired and cannot be changed, but it does allows some variation and external control. It can be used completely independently, but is intended for use with external control voltage (CV) sources to affect or modulate various parameters, which is where the INM truly comes alive (you will see what I mean).

So what can you do with it? Incidental sounds and ambiences, unholy caterwauling, soundscapes from melancholy to manic, even percussion and other traditional musical sounds. The Infernal Noise Machine is particularly effective for making drones that evolve with time as well, with no external sources required. The internal architecture allows for a wide range of self-evolving, beat-frequency style tonal variations over an infinite range of rates. There is really no simple way to describe what the INM can do – you have to find out for yourself. This is a unique device. It requires a bit of time and patience to get a feel for how it works, but it is worth the effort."

flightofharmony Dealers don’t wanna restock and I don’t wanna find a job yet 20% off everything sale

via flightofharmony where you'll find additional details on the sale.

"As the catchy title implies, I’m broke and need money. This means I need to get a job. I don’t want to just yet because I’d like to at least get the Facehugger control module out to beta testers before I put everything on hold for a bit, which means desperate sale time, yay! Also, it’s Summer, which means that, even though they’re largely sold out of most f(h) modules, it’s the slow time for Synthland, and dealers don’t like to restock until Fall, so this is a great chance to get some unavailable gear for a great price! Now, onwards, to the rules!

What’s covered?
Everything – which means all currently-active product lines, both modules and kits. Which means:

Facehugger – Function Generator, arpeggiator, etc. Preorder item, see note below.
Famine (1500 & 500) – Voltage-controlled power starvation module.
IMP – Noise source.
Desktop Infernal Noise Machine – Road-worthy version of the Infernal Noise Machine, see note below.
Parasite Antifilter – Hellacious distortion, fuzz, drone generator, ambience generator, drum tone source, I mean holy hell this things is fun and surprising.
Plague Bearer – Voltage-controlled Bandpass filter, distortion, the classic.
Sinner – Sine shaper and signal processor.
Sound of Shadows – Voltage controlled, chainable digital delay.
1-6-13 – Protected eurorack power distribution board
5×5 – Passthrough +5V power source, plug into any open spot on your power board and not lose the spot.

This even includes the last of the desktop Infernal Noise Machine Blood Boxes/Minimal Cases and even the Facehugger preorder, but please note the longer lead times involved on those items."

flightofharmony INM E Simple Self-Patch Demos #2 & #3

flightofharmony

"Another four-cable self-patch example of the eurorack Infernal Noise Machine. This one starts in a higher range like static or white noise. The second half shows how the INM is made of "sweet spots", where small control changes greatly alter the sound. The INM-E is on my workbench in a circuit board holder.

This video was recorded while I was still trying to figure out the best recording settings in OBS and the motion is a bit choppy, but the sound is in sync and accurate.

Come check out the INM-E Kickstarter campaign! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...

(Module shown is a prototype.)"

Infernal Noise Machine Simple Self-Patch Demo #3

flightofharmony

"A two-cable self-patch example of the eurorack Infernal Noise Machine. This patch creates a pseudo-delay/reverb effect that is very apparent on headphones. Two more cables are added later for AR envelope

flightofharmony Facehugger preorders and the last of the Blood Boxes

Facehugger ► Parasite video upload by flightofharmony

First a new video for Facehugger. Blood Box details further below.

"Using the Facehugger function generator to control Parasite Antifilter (compilation video).

Starting with a tone from Parasite, then adding a drone from the Infernal Noise Machine, and then using the Facehugger output to control the Mid Q CV input, with random noodlings from thereon.

Facehugger preorders are open now, details at https://flightofharmony.com/facehugge..."

via flightofharmony

"Facehugger: Pre-orders for the new Facehugger all-analog, vector-addressable, chainable, function generator are now open!

The alpha prototype has been built, corrected, and is fully working. The design has been updated and the next circuit board designs are almost complete. The beta and (hopefully) final PCBs will be ordered this week, and test units should be sent out to testers next week, and the production units are expected to ship mid-September."

And:

"Infernal Noise Machine Blood Box: It’s Summer, so it’s time to build the last of the desktop INM Blood Boxes. The first run sold out and now even the eurorack versions are gone, so this run is the very last of the V2 Infernal Noise Machines that will be built."

Dirty Sounds with Gotharman's Tiny LD + Infernal Noise Machine Eurorack Synth #TTNM

video upload by THE TUESDAY NIGHT MACHINES

"Gosh, I'm pretty tired from this week, but I still wanted to record ... something ... with my Gotharman TinyLD granular workstation synth and Flight of Harmony's Infernal Noise Machine INM-E Eurorack noise synth ... so here is ... something :D Have a nice weekend!

INM-E audio goes into the TinyLD, where it's processed by granular sound FX and side-chain compression. The TinyLD then plays some synthesized drums, a bass line and two metallic bleeps and bloop voices. There are also two additional INM-E noodle recordings with some FoH Sound of Shadows delay going on, where I just explore around the domains more or less audibly.

I love to hear from you and talk about synths and stuff, so always feel welcome to post a comment or send me an e-mail to:

"These rarely pop-up on the 2nd hand market and I'm assuming if you're looking at this you probably know what it is. If not, it's basically an experimental musicians wet dream. Rocky Flowing by Infradead (Infernal Noise Machine demonstration)

flightofharmony

"Infradead of the Tacoma Noise Rodeo submitted another great INM-E demo track.
'INM is processing the drums. One channels filter is being audio modulated by drums the other by the osc.'

The Infernal Noise Machine Kickstarter campaign is almost over! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...

Remember: this was just a tryout of the Kickstarter platform. Development of the INM-E has been in progress the whole time and is now finalized, so these are being built whether or not the campaign succeeds. All pledges will be converted to preorders if the goal is not reached, so this is your chance to get one of the 22 remaining Limited Edition units!"

3am - inference (Infernal Noise Machine)

video by justin3am

"This is a performance using an Infernal Noise Machine from Flight Of Harmony, controlled by a 0-CTRL from Make Noise. Also featuring a Quad Plague Bearer for extra grime and a Desmodus Versio for reverb.
I forgot to turn on the back light, so you can barely see what I'm doing, lol."

flight of harmony Infernal Noise Machine

v1.1 Limited run available - $666.00 USD each. 2 of 5 remaining
"This was built by accident, but that is a good thing. A customer said that he was interested in an INM when it was available. I was out of my medication at the time, and replace the word "INM" with "Plague Bearer". Once I woke up, work began. This is NOT a production unit, I am trying to find a more cost-effective build. The joysticks are from my jealously-hoarded secret stash, but I'm looking into distributing them - 100k, 0.2W, 90° swing, all-metal construction (apart from shaft pivot bearing)." Analog Audio Tube Mayhem // SpazeDrum + Infernal Noise Machine + Trogotronic 679 #TTNM

video upload by THE TUESDAY NIGHT MACHINES

"Just a little LOUD AND DISTORTED Trogotronic Infernal Noise Machine SpazeDrum Sound of Shadows SOUND DESTRUCTION! WAAAGH!!! Well ... so ... I wanted to use the Flight of Harmony INM-E to process the analog Gotharman SpazeDrum output. But then I thought: "Why not step it up a notch?". So I added the Trogotronic 679 vacuum tube ... THING ... and sent the result through Flight of Harmony's Sound of Shadows delay too.

I love to hear from you and talk about synths and stuff, so always feel welcome to post a comment or send me an e-mail to:

Upcoming Eurorack Infernal Noise Machine - INM-E LFO test

flightofharmony

"Testing the LFO in the upcoming eurorack Infernal Noise Machine. Self-patching only, no external devices used.
The audio track de-synched a bit and I corrected it as best as I could. I'm still figuring out how to record with my new setup... much frustration, yes."

YouTube via bigcitymusic

"Too much percussion! It starts off with some drum sounds from the Diabolically modified 707. The 707 is clocking the x0xb0x 303 clone. The x0x's output is running to the mega-sweet Diabolical Devices Fuzz Burglar guitar pedal. It self oscillates and has twelve different settings for the internal oscillator as well as a momentary drop switch that lets you drop the pitch by about two octaves. The x0xb0x is also controlling the maniacal Flight of Harmony Infernal Noise Machine via control voltage. The INM has all sorts of sounds just waiting to make you sick to your stomach;) The joysticks are fun too."

flight of harmony newsletter August 2008

"I’m quite busy filling the current orders, but here’s a quick update:

· After this run, the current Plague Bearer form factor will be discontinued – these housings are just too labor-intensive. There are only two v1.1 Plague Bearers remaining at the time of this writing and they are the last of this style.

· If there is enough demand, populated main boards for the Plague Bearer, Imp, and the Infernal Noise Machine will be made available. Main boards do not include PSU or I/O jacks. Email me if you are interested, I’ll have some populated board pics up soon.

Upcoming:
· Modular versions of the Plague Bearer, Parasite, and the Infernal Noise Machine.
· The standalone version of the I.N.M and the Imp will be available in a couple weeks"

"The INM Is a dual joystick controlled semi modular analog 'noise' synth capable of much more than noise. It features two filters, two vca's, an oscillator and a noise source which is used to modulate the oscillator. The noise source is switchable so an external signal can be the modulator. On the back are 1/4" inputs for adding external voltages to the filters, vca's, etc. from your modular. There are 23 knobs to twist which shape, sculpt and otherwise mangle the sound. Below my description is an excerpt from the Flight of Harmony website, where you can read much more about this wonderful device. These sell new for $666.00 USD. Get a used one for much much less..."
