Polyend Poly module with RIBN application

Published on Aug 6, 2018 Polyend

"A person called once upon a synth has made this really cool RIBN app which couples really great with our Poly MIDI to CV converter. This gives the Poly module users almost endless possibilities in modulation! Please check it out! Starring the highly limited Seq version, if you like it give us a shoutout."

You can find more info on Ribn here.

Review: Polyend SEQ and POLY: One sequencer to rule them all?

Published on Apr 5, 2018 loopop

"The most obvious feature of Polyend's SEQ sequencer is the 8-track, 32-step grid, along with a great looking aluminum and oak exterior. However, the abundance of control and charm come at a steep price. Is it worth it?

In this video I give a thorough in depth look at SEQ, and it's companion MIDI to CV eurorack module POLY, testing the sequencing of hardware, modular and software instruments.

On the software side, sequencing is quite simple. SEQ can send MIDI data via USB and supports sequencing on 16 separate MIDI channels, nicely controlling Spitfire Audio's Albion One orchestra.

On the hardware side, I test SEQ's ability to simultaneously sequence standalone synths and eurorack modules using its companion POLY module. Using all three outputs - USB and two MIDI ports - SEQ is able to orchestrate the Novation Circuit, Elektron Digitone, Moog Mother-32 and DFAM, and Plaits from Mutable Instruments, with many channels to spare.

Polyend's POLY eurorack MIDI to CV module works nicely as well, both complementing SEQ and as a standalone module. In the video I show how it can be used to play the three oscillators on Mother-32 and DFAM polyphonically.

SEQ emphasizes simplicity over features. Advanced sequencers such as those in Elektron machines have a longer checklist of features, but there's something about the broad view of multiple patterns at once, sprinkled with a few nifty tricks for quick and easy sequencing, that creates a very compelling environment for live performance."

Folktek Mescaline - Mutable Instruments Elements + Edges - Reverbs, Delays & Instant Lo-Fi Junky

Published on Dec 21, 2017 isvisible isinvisible

"The Folktek 'Mescaline' is providing the percussion (everything apart from the quiet snare sound which is from Braids) and the low repeating lush reverbed sound.

The wonky continuous slightly phased sound is 'Edges' going through my 'Bistromath', a ZVex 'Instant Lo-Fi Junky', Mungo 'd0' and an SDS Digital 'Reflex Liveloop'.

The slightly orchestral-ish sound is a Mutable Instruments 'Elements' fed into a Tiptop 'ZDSP' and then fed back in on itself.

The struck bowl (more like clunky synth percussion to be honest) type sounds that come in towards the end are the Livewire 'Dalek Modulator' going through a Doepfer 'A-188-2' delay.

Some sequencing being done by a Polyend 'Seq' via the 'Poly' module, and some being done by a 'Turing Manchine' and a Doepfer 'A-155'.

Triggers and gates being provided by an ALM 'Pamela's Workout, Mutable Instruments 'Grids' and Iron Ether's 'Pithoprakta'.

Modulation being provided by Livewire 'Chaos Computer', Mutable Instruments 'Peaks', Ian Fritz 'Bistromath' and a few other things, along with some Doepfer envelopes."

Polyend Seq and Poly - Pop Music feat. Mutable Instruments Edges and Anushri

Published on Sep 13, 2017 isvisible / isinvisible

"I've had the Polyend Seq sequencer for a few weeks now, but not really had much of a chance to try it out, so this is my first simple effort... and it ended up spitting out pop music!

The melody and chords are going via the Poly midi to cv module to the Mutable Instruments Edges module and the bassline via Poly to the Anushri module.

The only other accompaniment is percussive, from the Touched by Sound DRM1 sequenced by Seq and the Wurlitzer Swingin' Rhythm (modified with trigger in's) sequenced by the Iron Ether Pithoprakta.

There's lots of other stuff patched up, but that's all for another track I'm working on."

Mutable Instruments - Elements: Dark Orchestra [vs Edges & Akemie's Taiko: Jaunty Melody]

Published on Jul 23, 2017 isvisible / isinvisible

"Working on a new track.

Mutable Instruments - Elements: one output being fed back into itself via a vca and filter, and lots of outputs from the Livewire Chaos Computer controlling a lot of inputs on the Elements.
I use this patch, or a variation of it quite a lot and have given it the nick name The Dark Orchestra.

Mutable Instruments - Edges: Running an arpeggio from a Korg MicroKey through a Polyend Poly module and feeding four of the cv's to Edges, and four gates to envelopes to shape the individually filtered (Doepfer filters) outputs of Edges. Then run through input one of the Modcan Dual Delay.

ALM - Akemie's Taiko: Dead simple, cv from the Klee. Then run through input two of the Modcan Dual Delay.

Folktek - Matter: Dead simple, two trigger outs from the Klee, then the output of Matter routed through the Intellijel Springray.

That's about it.

Details on the SEQ MIDI Step Sequencer by Polyend

Published on Apr 12, 2017 Polyend

"Equipped with a wide array of Ins and Outs, allowing you to communicate freely with other devices of every era and genre. You can also feed tracks with MIDI notes using your favorite MIDI controller."

We saw it at NAMM, here are the details and price.

SEQ Polyphonic step sequencer

A journey of a thousand tunes begins with a single step.
The idea behind SEQ was to craft the ultimate hardware step sequencer. 32 steps, 8 polyphonic tracks, 256 pattern storage - all enclosed within the highest quality aluminum and wooden housing.
Most of the functions are available directly from the front panel and all its features give the quickest and most natural way to bring ideas to light. And, when user got them together, rest assured they wonʼt get lost thanks to the autosave function.
Main features
• 8 tracks with 32 steps each
• 256 pattern memory
• Live sequence recording with external device via MIDI
• Step parameters: Note, Velocity, Length, Modulation, Roll
• Independent track play modes: Normal, Reversed, Pingpong, Random, Polymetric, Polyrhythmic • Track parameters: Length, Velocity, Scale, MIDI Channel, MIDI Out
• All parameter changes are automatically saved

In/Out
• MIDI In to either sync clock or input MIDI notes • MIDI Thru
• 2 independent MIDI Outs
• USB for bidirectional MIDI communication
• Footswitch input to control Start, Stop, and Record

Screen
Most of the parameters and values can be read from the SEQ interface at a glance. For the rest of them, we provide a bright and sharp screen. Minimalistic, stripped down from any distractions, it brings all the information user needs in any performing conditions meet.

Dimensions
Length: Width: Height: Weight:
23.6 in (60 cm) 5.7 in (14.5 cm) 1.7 in (4.3 cm) 4.6 lbs (2.1 kg)

Whatʼs in the box
• SEQ
• Universal Power Supply • USB Cable

SEQ is available for pre-order. First batch will be shipped in March/April 2017. Price: 999 USD

POLY Polyphonic MIDI to CV converter

We wanted to incorporate direct and seamless connections between SEQ and voltage control universes, which we are quite fond of. POLY is an Eurorack module with implemented configuration reflecting SEQʼs eight channels. It converts the MIDI signal to voltage values managing the Gate, Pitch, Velocity, and Modulation parameters of each step. Through CV outputs, any Eurorack array can be fed with all the musical content you just created using SEQ.
POLY is also available for pre-order.

First batch will be shipped in March/April 2017.

Price: 399 USD
