RetroSound Celebrates 10 Years of Synthesizer Demo Videos

10 years RetroSound vintage synthesizer demo videos on YouTube - thank you!

Published on Feb 14, 2017 RetroSound

As you all know, RetroSound's videos have become a staple here on MATRIXSYNTH. I consider them amongst the best in showcasing individual synths. Every time I see a new video come in I know it is going to be good. Below you'll find the three videos referenced in the video above, including the first. It's always fun to look back and see how far we've come over the years. Congrats RetroSound! :)

for the support.

The RetroSound vintage synthesizer channel on youtube have been around for over ten years now. Unbelievable for me. At the beginning I had no idea that once something big would come of it.

Now we have 15.000.000 views and 36.000 subscribers and a few hater. :D But all are welcome. No religion! No borders! We are one world. Enjoy the music, make your own music, try it and have fun. This is the message.

Many thanks to my loyal fans over all the years. I will never call for donate or something but if you like my work then I'm happy if you support me and buy a music album. Enjoy the videos! Thank you. :)

I've been waiting for Retrosound's next video to share the following sent my way via Soviet Space Child. I'm not on Instagram myself, so I missed it. The cover above "Steppin' Out" is just a nice coincidence. :)

The Story behind RetroSound: Most of you know my synthesizers, but very little about the person behind them, today there are some personal sentences from me. I grew up in the former GDR. Until I was 18 years old, I only knew synthesizers from the western tv. As teenager, I heard the music of Depeche Mode, Human League, Yazoo, Pink Floyd and Genesis. But the soundscapes of Vangelis and Jean-Michel Jarre also found their way into my ear. The first synthesizer sounds I probably perceived while secretly listening to the ELO album from my dad. As kid and teenager, I always dream of a bunch of synthesizers like my musical heroes did. There were no pictures of Playboy on my wall, like some of my age, but badly copied photographs of synths from western tv. I knew that it would only be a dream, because there was no legal way to leave the GDR. And I did not want to leave her either. Everything changed in 1989 and what nobody could ever expect became reality. Suddenly the objects of desire moved within range, but the necessary money was missing. It was not until 1998 that I bought my first synthesizer from my long and hard saved money. It was the Clavia Nord Modular. I plunged madly on the device and programmed sounds day and night. Then Clavia became aware of me in Sweden and so one thing came to another. From then on, countless of my sounds were found among the Nord Modular / Micro Modular factory sounds. That motivated me to do more. Then the Roland Juno-60 came into the house, my dream synth of the 80s and still my favorite. I had not much money, so I bought old synthesizers and restored them. Well at some point I had realized my childhood dream yet. Today I work as a freelance sound designer for UVI. I compose soundscapes for documentary films and advise musicians all over the world. And maybe some of you know my RetroSound Vintage Synthesizer Channel on YouTube. Since 2007 with demo tracks, sounds. What happened exactly 30 years ago has taken my whole life in a completely different direction. I'm very happy about that. 🙌 . #mauerfall #30jahremauerfall #neunternovember #DDR #wiedervereinigung #retrosound #synth #synthesizer #GDR #germany #1989 #mauerfall30

Oberheim Matrix-1000 Analog Synthesizer from the year 1987

The small Oberheim with the big sound!
Very underrated analog synthesizer module from Oberheim with six voices, two DCOs per voice, 24 dB low pass filter and complex matrix modulation like the big brothers Matrix-12 and Xpander.

The demo shows some sounds fom the RetroSound soundbank for the Oberheim Matrix-1000, Matrix-6 and Matrix-6R. I used often the Modulation Matrix for complex sounds and the most sounds you can modulate with the wheel in realtime.

Oberheim Matrix RetroSound-Set for Matrix-1000/ 6/ 6R
sound-list:
00 - 39 Pad & String Sounds
40 - 43 Choir & Vocal Sounds
44 - 50 Brass Sounds
51 - 56 Bass Sounds
57 - 71 Lead Sounds
72 - 75 Organ Sounds
76 - 83 Acoustic Sounds
84 - 93 Effect Sounds
94 - 99 Sequencer Sounds

You can load the midi file in your sequencer software, play the file and the synth received the sound data and overwrite the the first sound bank (0-99) with the new sounds.

I will send the soundfile (midi-file SMF) to your mail adress. payment only over paypal.

I play in the demo only single sounds (no multitracking or sound stacking) and I used here a bit Reverb and Delay. Some bass patches are triggered by The OB-Xk arpeggiator.

CASIOmoog - How bring you the deep Moog Bass sound in a cheap Casio CZ-101 synthesizer?

Synthesizer Sound Tutorial (CASIO CZ Synthesizer Series)
I want to show how can bring expensive sounds in cheap synths.
It`s all about good sound programming. The deep Moog Bass sound is one of the most iconic sounds in history of synthesizers. Sure is the Casio CZ no Moog. But you can create also on cheap and underrated synths useful sounds with soul. Try it.

The sound chart can you find at the end of the video.
The patch feature 2 different moog bass sounds (2 lines)
You can play one sound (1+1) or both sounds in combination. (line1+2)

No external fx, compression or eq used. The pure sound.
