Oh-kay. Lots of granular effects going on here. As usual, the Gotharman SpazeDrum is on analog drum duty, the DIY deMoon 1.4 plays a noisy synth pad sound and the Little deFormer 3 mashes all of this together, while adding its own digital synth sounds and a cut-up SpazeDrum live resampling. Phew. It's noisy, crackly ambient synth music fun (at least for me ;-P ) in stereo!

All sounds and effects are generated directly in the SpazeDrum. No samples were used, only sounds created with this beautiful, blue drum machine from Denmark. The SpazeDrum is a streamlined analog-digital hybrid drum synth, that lets you dive deep into electronic drum sound sound design and groovebox-style sequencing. It can work on its own, like you see in this video, or in a greater music setup, thanks to MIDI I/O, stereo mix outputs and the special, individual analog voice audio outputs. It also plays WAV file samples which can be transferred easily via a USB stick.

Gotharman's SpazeDrum is an analog-digital hybrid drum synth, on which you can create your own drum sounds from scratch or import your own samples. Because it's a true synthesizer, you can also create bass lines on it and sequence them melodically, even if that's not necessarily the machine's focus. It's still heaps of fun though! In this video I've tried to get an Acid Techno sound. Of course the SpazeDrum uses other analog circuitry than Roland's classic TB-303 and TR-808 or 909, so it's a very different sound, but I think you can still get some cool and crunchy Acid tones out of this unique Danish groovebox.

The SpazeDrum is a four voice, sixteen part drum synth from Denmark, featuring analog oscillators, digital oscillators as well as sample playback. There are lots of Gotharman typical effects too, as well as digital and analog filters. So the SpazeDrum is quite the beast when it comes to drum sound design of any kind. The preset I play in this video contains all analog sound sources with some digital effects applied. I started it out as an analog bongo preset and then evolved it a little further with other sounds too.

Apart from the deep sound design possibilities, the SpazeDrum also has the sound and sequencer morphing features from the Little deFormer 3 groove box, as well as complex sequencing and polyrhythm capabilities.

For this jam session I created a bunch of soft ambient synth and percussion sounds with the analog oscillators in the SpazeDrum. I also applied the digital filters and a bunch of slow LFOs and random modulation. The Ocean Machine adds two delay and reverb effects to the stereo audio.

The SpazeDrum is an analog-digital hybrid drum synthesizer form Denmark. It features a powerful sequencer and lots of modulation options. You can create your sounds from scratch and while it's made with drums in mind, you can still use it like a synth with all the typical building blocks, plus some Gotharman specialities :)

I acquired an old, second-hand, DIY deMoon synth a few weeks ago, which was one of Gotharman‘s first commercial devices over ten years ago. Back then, I didn‘t understand nor appreciate its existence, but this has changed of course ;-) With that instrument rounding off my SpazeDrum + Little deFormer 3 setup, I decided to patch everything together and do something. So in this video, the SpazeDrum and deMoon each send their stereo audio into the LD3. There, the audio is combined with internal LD3 synth sounds and processed by its granular synthesis FX. The Linnstrument MIDI keyboard plays the deMoon and the SpazeDrum and deFormer both use their internal multi-track sequencers. I mapped the eight EDIT knobs on the deFormer 3 to various parameters and of course play with both the SpazeDrum‘s and LD3‘s morph knobs.

"Voice Structure

It has 4 analog voices, that each has 4 parts - 16 parts in total. With the 4 parts of each analog voice, it is possible to program 4 variations of the same sound, or even 4 completely different sounds, that will cut each other off, when playing them back.

The Drum Oscillator of each part can be set up to one of four configurations, at a time:

Analog Percussion - A dual analog percussion oscillator and a digital oscillator. The analog percussion oscillator has special parameters like Shape, Buzz and G-Ray feedback. The digital oscillator can run in several modes, like waveform, resonator, percussion oscillator, cymbal oscillator, clap oscillator and sampler. Each oscillator can have most parameters modulated by any modulation source. The analog percussion oscillator can be FM'ed by a percussion noise source and by the digital oscillator. Analog Cymbal - A dual analog percussion oscillator and a digital oscillator. The analog cymbal oscillator has special parameters like Shape, Buzz and G-Ray feedback. The digital oscillator can run in several modes, like waveform, resonator, percussion oscillator, cymbal oscillator, clap oscillator and sampler. Each oscillator can have most parameters modulated by any modulation source. The analog Cymbal oscillator can be FM'ed by a multiple square wave source and by the digital oscillator. Can produce metallic sounds like cymbals and hihats, noises and much more...

Analog Clap - A dual analog percussion oscillator and a digital oscillator. The analog clap oscillator has special parameters like Shape and G-Ray feedback. The digital oscillator can run in several modes, like waveform, resonator, percussion oscillator, cymbal oscillator, clap oscillator and sampler. Each oscillator can have most parameters modulated by any modulation source. The analog Clap oscillator can be modulated by a clap oscillator, to produce the classical clap sound, and it can be FM'ed by a noise source and by the digital oscillator. I wanted to use the Flight of Harmony INM-E to process the analog Gotharman SpazeDrum output. But then I thought: "Why not step it up a notch?". So I added the Trogotronic 679 vacuum tube ... THING ... and sent the result through Flight of Harmony's Sound of Shadows delay too.

In this preset I added a simple bass line to both morph layers. The audio morph knob also has a bigger effect here, cranking the grittiness up nicely. It feels like more than just four voice polyphony, thanks to the built-in effects and an very simple voice stealing concept, which you can use to your advantage.
